SLIPKNOT Performs New Single 'Psychosocial' Live For First Time; Video Available
- July 11, 2008
|
|
Fan-filmed video footage of SLIPKNOT performing its new single, "Psychosocial", live for the first time ever this past Wednesday night (July 9) at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, Washington can be viewed below (clip uploaded by YouTube user "skudave"). The band's video for "Psychosocial" will premiere on MTV's "F'N MTV" program on Friday, July 18 at 8:00 p.m. EST. SLIPKNOT's new album, "All Hope Is Gone", will arrive on August 26 via Roadrunner Records. The title track was made available last month, while "Psychosocial" arrived at rock radio last week. SLIPKNOT revealed their new masks on July 1 with an exclusive set of photos at Spinner.com. Described as "creepy" and "intricate," some of the nine band members' masks have changed considerably, while others have been altered only a little. Frontman Corey Taylor's mask has undergone the most drastic and disturbing change, now looking like it's made of "dried human flesh," as MTV.com put it. Crahan has built lots of leather and zippers into his disguise, calling to mind the "Gimp" from the movie "Pulp Fiction", while drummer Joey Jordison has added a crown of black thorns to his design. SLIPKNOT reportedly rarely cleans their masks, despite the band's claims that they bleed, sweat and vomit into them during concerts.

The band looks like they're dialing in their performance. What happened to the Slipknot that used to own the stage with all of their energy & fire?

...I've never seen Slipknot live and I'm sure they used to put on an energetic live act, but this is just terrible. Of course, it's only one song out of a whole set, maybe the rest of the show was kick ass. Also - is it me, or did the crowd sound really bored as well. It's a little too early to tell, but I think Slipknot's relevance in the metal world has just about come to an end.
And one thing I've always wondered about Slipknot: why are there 9 guys in the band? Certainly there's no need for a 3 percussionists and a DJ.

It sounded pretty good. The biggest problem was that Mick was turned down somewhere in the mix. Most talented motherfucker in the band and you couldn't hear shit while he was soloing (or whacking off his instrument). Their intensity was nowhere near what it used to be, but they've been out of it for a while, and they're just warming up on this tour.

They're just warming up and they most likely go crazier to the old music for two reasons
1. They wrote it when they were fucking pissed off individuals and the song taps into that mindset so they go crazy
2. They are getting older but dude slayer is still going strong live so yeah thats not a real good reason

Seriously, does anyone even understand the differences it takes for Slipknot to tour back in 1999/2000 versus today?
a) The band has NEVER played this song live before. - granted, I thought they lost the tempo of it by about the first chorus, and so it could've probably been rehearsed more maybe? In all likelyhood it was thrown into the middle of the set, and the track is one of Slipknot's slower songs, even the verse riff's groove is very slow for them.
b) The song didn't get released but a week or two ago online - How many people in the crowd do you think are such rabid Slipknot fans, that they have the words memorized already? Plenty i'd guess, but i'd bet there are many more like me -- who enjoy Slipknot, but i'm not going apeshit to have everything memorized so I can show the band how hard i'll rock. I'll wait for the album...
c) In 2000, this band was NOT regularly headlining nearly 2 hour sets - They broke on Ozzfest '99, which means they were playing EXPONENTIALLY shorter shows back on the tour for the self-titled album and for at least a chunk of IOWA. On the world tour for the last album cycle, they hit between an hour and a half and 2 hours for a set. When you're opening, or even in the middle of a lineup, you can get yourself suited for going onstage and ripping it up at 100% for 30, maybe even 45 minutes. Double that or more? Even the best get tired and need a moment to stand there and shout the name of the song as a post-chorus.
I get the whole "opinions are like assholes" thing, but at least give a little thought as to why it is the way it is. You weren't even there, maybe it was actually cool as shit, but everyone just felt like standing and smoking because they'd played "Vermillion" before this and everyone knew a heavy track was coming up.

I've seen them several times. Personally, I'd rather see them hit every note and have the music sound the best it can. I love a good live show, but if it sounds like shit it doesn't matter how crazy they act.
They are 10 years older, and probably realize that if they want to keep things rolling things have to be toned down a bit.

6 of the 9 dudes have been off the road for a couple of years. they gotta get back in the groove of touring. you snot nosed kiddies don't know what it takes out of a person to jump on stage and play a show after not having performed for a while.

Deal with it......unlike Mushroomhead, Slipknot is still going strong, playing in front of THOUSANDS of people a night.
MushroomHead has more people on stage with them than in the crowd.

McSlayer, well said. I feel the same way. If a band is looking like a fucking romper room on stage and sounding like shit I feel ripped off. I came to see the band play the music, not see the band act like a bunch of apes jumping around and shit.
and dt2, as far as the guitars go, Mic kused to play BC rich and Ibanez sound way better than any bc rich you can buy.

I understand it takes alot out of you to put on a stage show like these guys did and still do. I'm a singer, I know. So I don't think they're dialing it in. But I don't get the gimmick, I don't get the banging on a garbage can, all I see is a guy walking back and forth on stage doing nothing. So I don't get it, but the new track is good. But if you to see a band run around and still nail songs note for note, two words. Iron Maiden. ENOUGH SAID!!!!!!!!!!!

In my humble opinion they actually sound good regardless of what everyone else thinks. Corey's voice is not blown from touring yet. As far as the energy, fire and what not keep in mind they're on some retarded monster energy drink tour. That stuff typically comes with a headlining tour of their own. I pesonally prefer a band to sound good (relative to their own music of course) over fire and cartwheels.

The two drummers on each side of the stage, Chris and Shawn, they are not meant to be talented who ever made the stupid comments. The talented drummer is the one behind the actual set, Joey. Chris and Shawn are simply there to enhance the sound of an army of drums and percussion.

it did seem kinda phoned in but, it is new and all. i've seen these guys live three times. first on the s/t tour cycle . they headlined a theatre and they were great . the second was for vol. 3 when they did the big tour with log and the shads and, they were awesome. they were clownless that time. then when they came back round on that cycle and they were not very good. (more than likely burnt)
my problem with them live has always been taylors vocals. they always seem to have too many effects on them. for this being the start of a tour he didn't seem to pull off the chorus to this new song very well.it was pretty ridiculous for the fat guy to be just strollin around too.
i'll still be at mayhemfest in august. machine head, mastodon, 36cf, the red chord, and the knot. hellsya

It's so hilarious when people complain about the best god damn band on the fucking planet. Slipknot started a revolution and if they want they can afford a break of bullshit. It was their first fucking concert after a long ass break you guys... they're obviously still getting use to playing again (hence why in the video... they were not too exciting). About the two new songs released... those two songs happen to be badass and also are a hell of a lot heavier than the last album. Plus... they're TWO NEW songs... that's only two out of many others on the new album so fucking eat your tongue and swallow until the album is finally fucking released. I will kill and devour ANY fuck that puts down these gods of generation and sound. Lyrics, instrumental, and vocals are all blessing of the devil himself! If I come back on here and see ONE more person insulting this fucking band... You will hear from me... so many times it isn't fucking funny.

You obviously can't read, I never said they were talented. I simply said they are there to "enhance" the percussion. Like I said, the real drummer is Joey.

I love the way masks can allow potentially a group of 50 year olds an opportunity to be a metal band.
I haven't got a clue how old these guys are, but I am hedging a bet they're in their 40s?
