Report: Second Annual ROCKLAHOMA Is Delayed But Injuries Are Minor - July 13, 2008
Jennifer Chancellor of Tulsa World reports: Wnds in excess of 60 mph were blamed for the collapse of two stages at the Rocklahoma festival grounds [in Pryor, Oklahoma] at 6 p.m. Saturday [July 12].

Heavy rain, lightning and winds brought the '80s metal festival to a halt, but advance warning kept injuries to a minimum as thousands of festival-goers sought refuge in nearby tents, outbuildings, VIP areas and trailers. By 8 p.m., rock band LYNCH MOB took the main stage for a shortened set as organizers kept an eye on the weather.

One person broke an arm and was transported to the Mayes County Medical Center, Mayes County Sheriff Frank Cantey said. About 10 other people had minor injuries that didn't require treatment, he said.

Cantey said 65 mph winds in the area caused the stages to collapse.

"Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured," said Rob Miller, president of Event Marketing Group, the company that organizes Rocklahoma.

One girl broke her arm when she slipped and fell in mud while running to escape the onslaught of rain, he said.

Don't mess with Mother Nature. They should have had the event in a building with a roof instead.

Lynch mob had a shortened set???? OH NO!!!! Payback from mother nature for all that hairspray back in the day. 80's rock festival. This story would have been even better if they said Dokken was swept up by a tornado and taken to Oz. Stupid fuckers. I heard they managed to save all of Brett Michaels wigs. Thank God for that. What would VH1 do then? Oh I know, have a reality show with the Scorpions. ATTENTION: All you bands sucked then and you suck now. Fuck off.

HEY moron Scorpions have been making albums and music since the 70's and are far from ever being a hair metal band. Sure their newer material isnt all that great but they released some classic albums back in their prime.

This was / is not good. It sucks for the people and bands that are there. And it sucks for me because me and my sons are planning on going next year and the wife saw the article and is giving me a hard time about going.

The comments about the bands are expected. "dtmg" is 100% right. I listen and love all genres of metal. I can be wearing a Venom shirt and be listening to Cinderella and visa versa. Any form of metal is better than the shit (I can't use the word music) that America is infatuated with. Rap, Top 40, etc.. When American Idol is a national event, you know that we are in trouble. I'm envious of the way metal is revered in Europe.

Case in point... Every month we go to Barnes & Noble to pick up Metal Hammer. A British magazine purchased here on import. What do we find when we go to get it ? Another British magazine called Total Guitar chocked full of Maiden and Randy Rhoads. Go to Wal-Mart or Target and look at the magazines and what is popular. It's beyond sickening.

I am not a fan of Warrent, Trixter, Poison, etc. But, there are some great bands on this : Armored Saint, Living Colour, Queensryche, Triumph. If they would all just play on the same day.

This sucks for all of the bands whether they are good or not.

Something tells me that if 65 mph winds blew down two of the stages I don't think I would want to take shelter in a freakin tent. But now tht I think about it, they aparently stood up better than the stages.
