RUSH On 'The Colbert Report': Video Available - July 17, 2008
Canadian trio RUSH, which hasn't performed on U.S. television in more than three decades, played its classic "Tom Sawyer" and took part in an interview last night (Wednesday, July 16) on the Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report". The Geddy Lee-fronted band, which is currently on tour, hadn't played on U.S. television since 1975.

Watch footage of RUSH's appearance below.

RUSH's new live two-CD set, "Snakes & Arrows Live", sold just under 21,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The band's 18th studio album, "Snakes & Arrows", debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart with sales of 93,000 copies. The disc is the first collection of all-new RUSH material since 2002's "Vapor Trails" and the 27th RUSH release to make the Billboard album chart. The band's chart peak was in 1993, when "Counterparts" debuted at No. 2.

The 2008 leg of the "Snakes & Arrows" tour kicked off on April 11 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and will conclude July 22 in Atlanta, Georgia.

now if they took the time to set this show up they should have stayed after hours and recorded a whole dvd of this show...without any pre-recorded vocals....this is the way rush needs to record a live release....all the past cds/dvds are so overblown productions...i still crank em all out though...& they all have great versions of tunes..
please stop w/ the lifeson faking backups on top of geds voice

Funny and Awesome.

I'd sell a limb or at least a few non-essential toes to be able to see them in a club or small venue like that for an entire set.

Did you see, Neil made a funny.

Colbert interrupting the band was a joke. Rush was in on it.

Have you ever watched The Colbert Report before? The show is satire. This kind of thing is normal on it.

Yeah the theme was that they had long songs if you didn't catch that.

If you notice, standard rule is that no one is allowed (with FEW exceptions) to play a song over about 3:30 on TV, and this was their way of dealing with that without actually making Rush shorten their song.

Rush put on a good performance. Also the Part of Colbert jumping in during the song was funny i thought. I also saw Rush a few days ago and they were just amazing and spot on as always.

it was a joke. just like his bigger stool was a joke. a knock on typical mtv type interviews where the band is seated slightly lower than the interviewer.

geddy and alex seemed to get a good laugh at what colbert was doing so i don't think there was any harm done.

As good as The Colbert Report is, I wonder why the band chose this particular show to perform on after some 33 years.

If you had a talk show and the only musical guests you've had perform on it were Coldplay and Barbra Streisand you'd offer a band like Rush a sweet incentive to play on it too.

He talked about how long some of their songs were, so when he fake brain farted to stop the song the band was all in on it. If you didn't get that then you are pretty low on the humour level.
