ALEX SKOLNICK, GILBY CLARKE, ULI JON ROTH Jam With VERNON REID At New Zealand's G-TARANAKI - July 20, 2008
Vernon Reid (LIVING COLOUR) ended his Friday night (July 18) "Midnight Session" G-TARanaki guitar festival set, held at Puke Ariki knowledge centre in New Plymouth, New Zealand, by jamming with Alex Skolnick (TESTAMENT), Gilby Clarke (GUNS N' ROSES) and Uli Jon Roth (SCORPIONS). The Saturday night TSB Stadium concert was played to a sold-out audience by Joe Satriani, Glenn Hughes, Vernon Reid, Tim Donahue and the BRIAN HATCHER BAND.

Both Hughes and Reid performed with unique bands comprising Kiwi musicians. The former DEEP PURPLE bassist/vocalist played a set of exclusive PURPLE numbers, including "Stormbringer", "Burn" and "Gettin' Tighter", with guitarists Kara Gordon and Simon Koretz alongside Anders Olinder on keyboards and Nathan Koretz on drums. Vernon Reid's show, which kicked off with a version of JIMI HENDRIX's "Are You Experienced?" and included LIVING COLOUR's "Middle Man", featured Australian drummer Magesh Magesh and New Zealanders Jonathan Crayford on Hammond organ and Crete Haami on bass.

G-TARanaki's success has organizers predicting the event will now become annual.

Hell yeah, it was an awesome night! Hard to believe they all jammed together. There was barely enough room for them to stand on the tiny stage.... Alex and Vernon were pushing each other to get near the mic during Hey Joe.. Classic night!

Tickets were on sale for ticketek for the last 4 months! Was pretty accessible! Bad luck to those who didnt make it

FUCK SO GUTTED I MISSED THIS!!!!!! I totally agree Sister Lilith, they should have done it in Auckland or some other big city as well. It sucks that satriani did a whole tour of oz and didn't do a single concert date outside of the taranaki festival :( Oh well, just gonna have to wait.......

between there being limited public transport to that isolated place or accomodation, prohibitive transport costs , air company strikes ,nasty weather, dodgy road access ,( fuck ,the major acts nearly couldn't get there) little publicity , none prior as to who was playing when, no package deals, no tv , paper or radio interveiws or publicity pre amble very few folk that would have gone new about it or had means to get there. It was a time when media hype would have been effective. Tickets to the best night on Friday didn't sell. Even the promoters admit this
