KING DIAMOND: There Is No Way In Hell I Would Miss The Opportunity To Pay Tribute To DIMEBAG - July 25, 2008
King Diamond has issued the following update:

"Now that it's been made official, yes, I will participate in the tribute to Dimebag at Ozzfest. It's an honor to have been asked to participate, and my back is steadily getting better, definitely good enough for a short appearance, and it couldn't be for a better cause.

"I live only 7 minutes by car from the soccer stadium where Ozzfest takes place, so there is no way in hell I would miss this opportunity to pay tribute to Dimebag.

"I do have to say though, that my back is not yet fit to undertake a full KING DIAMOND tour.

"I know it sounds like I'm saying the same thing over and over — 'my back is steadily getting better' — but let me assure you all that it is significantly better and really getting stronger and stronger week by week!!! There is nothing I'd rather do than get back on the road, but it has to be for good and not just for a week or two and then find out that we took a stupid chance by doing it too soon.

"A few other good news:

"Massacre Records have taken their option for another KING DIAMOND album. Negotiations with Metal Blade Records to extend the KING DIAMOND recording deal has been completed, and are practically ready to be signed. Further, contracts between KING DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE, and Metal Blade Records and Massacre Records, have been agreed upon and are almost ready to be signed for a double DVD of KING DIAMOND and a double DVD of MERCYFUL FATE, consisting of mainly never before seen private recordings in very high quality (KING DIAMOND 1986-1990; MERCYFUL FATE 1982-1984). If all goes well, the KING DIAMOND DVD set might hit the stores before the end of this year and the MERCYFUL FATE DVD set would probably hit the stores early next year.

"Another project we've been working on is to create remastered versions of 'The Spider's Lullabye' + 'The Graveyard' + 'Voodoo' + 'House Of God'. Andy La Rocque is undertaking this project at his Sonic Train Studio in Sweden, and so far I have heard his version of 'The Spider's Lullabye' and it kicks some serious ass. It was as if I was listening to a brand new album, it sounded exactly like it should have sounded back when it was released (we did not at that time master our albums ourselves, and let me tell you, they suffered by it). For the first time ever, I heard all the things we actually recorded (certain vocal harmonies and guitar overdubs; all the details are there now). In my opinion, this one is gonna be a MUST HAVE. You know I wouldn't say this if it wasn't true. Andy has just told me that the remastered version of 'The Graveyard' is in the mail for my approval. Once I've listened to it, I'll let you know how it turned out.

"There is another project in the making which I unfortunately cannot speak about yet. If it comes true though, it will be a very big thing for KING DIAMOND/MERCYFUL FATE. It is not a new MERCYFUL FATE album or tour, but it is something that could be very big for us. It is more like being a part of someone else's VERY BIG project, and which can only be announced by them.

"As you can probably see, I have not been lying on my back the entire time since I last wrote to you.

"Before I finish, I sincerely want to thank you all for the unreal support you give us. You are by far THE BEST!!!"

Can't wait until he tours in Europe again.

Also "Tired Of Being Alive" you are retarded.

King Diamond is a great inspiration just as Dime was ... do yourself a favor and shut your mouth....also refrain from breeding last thing we need is another insignifagant hack like yourself running around on this planet.

I don't know any guitarist I like that was influenced by Dimebag, sure he was a very good guitarist but all this praise that has been heaped on him I can't for the life of me fathom why. I think Chuck Schuldiner should be getting all the coverage instead.

We lost a person to a tragic death. yes he was famous but flesh and blood like you and i and a great person in life. i think we all owe eachother a bit of respect as people who remember good times ... rather then shit on everyone else for what they like ..

Like Jimi Hendrix, Van Gogh, Jim Morrison, and Ghandi before him, Darrel is only being worshiped because he's dead. He was a decent guitarist and it's sad how he died, but any death metal or classical guitarist would destroy him. I have no problem with people that knew him honoring him for the impact he may have had on their life, but all these fans sucking his cock are just as mindless as the guy that shot him. Or those Manson fans that literally suck his dick. Most of the bands playing probably never met him and are just collecting a paycheck and getting press. Let him fucking rest already.

Sheekster2 is absolutely correct. I have played for 23 years now. If all you think there is to music is speed and sweeps and technical precision then you missed out on the point of music. It's about connecting to someone on an emotional level, NOT about who plays faster. When I was 13 or 14, I felt like you do. Maybe even until I was about 20 I felt somewhat like you do but to say that (it IS what you were saying) non-shredders or Malmsteen's and Buckethead's of the world are no good is quite sad. It's sad that you view this instrument as a toold for competition and speed. It's really a mixed up train of thought you have.

I would take David Gilmour above Malmsteen any day of the week and so would about 100 million others. Gilmour does so much more for me in such fewer notes than Malmsteen. Now THAT is talent!

dime was better than good, he was GREAT! He wrote sick, killer riffs and played a great lead with awesome tone! Pantera was much more than just Phil. Phil would of never been able to sing and scream what he did without the Abbot bros. When Phil writes on his own, he does different things, one being Superjoint Ritual. That sounds a lot different than Pantera. Pantera is equal Phil and the Abbot's. No doubt.

Pantera kicks ass! RIP Dime!

They're all unique guitar players, but if anyones overrated, its Zaak. Plus he doesnt have the cogeniality that Dime had about him, just saying.. I think Chuck SHOULD be getting equal or superior coverage to Dime though. Dime was good, influenced alot of the MAINSTREAM metal around the past 15 + years (taking the New Orleans Groove sound made famous by Exhorder and others and making it palatable with some good unique twists on it), but Chuck influenced pretty much EVERYONE in extreme metal. Think about it, other than Bathory, Possessed, Hellhammer and a few others, in 1983 was anyone making the type of sounds that Death were on their demos? I've heard alot of the early black, death and doom stuff and Death's is among the most extreme I've heard! 1983- not 84, 85, 86, 80 fucking three! And not to mention the Tech bands and melodic extreme bands coming out STILL that have the mid-latter day Death influence, or passing influence. Ok, everyone whos not a hardcore metal head says "yeah I like some metal, I like Pantera" and thats honorable, but Chuck still has as much glory due..

I can't stand insulting idiots like Larceny who thinks that only death metal shredders are what the instrument is about. Those leads ALL sound the fucking same and have ZERO feeling whatsoever! No substance just speed! I love death metal and there are some players who can add feeling intto their playing but judging how rapidly and fluently someone can run up and down harmonic minors and diatonic/modals and pentatonics is just pathetic. ANYONE can learn to do that! ANYONE! In fact, that was the FIRST thing I learned to do after learning my riffs and rhythms. My teacher, who I only had very briefly, looked at me and said, "Why do you want to play like Marty Friedman and Malmsteen?" Then he gave me Hendrix, Clapton, and BB King to do leads over and there was SO much more substance and feeling then the same monotonous sound of scales being played fast for showing off's sake to the rest of the Football team who only cared about - "WHO'S BETTER? WHO'S FASTER? Fucking idiots! Grow up and don't insult people for having a different and better taste than you! It's just gonna come back to ya!

What is it about these Dimebag threads that bring the stupidity to a New Level?

"as long as Phil is not included in any way this 'tribute' I really don't see the point to all this."

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the Dimebag tribute, the man who said IN THE PRESS that Dime should be severely beaten!
Seriously, it's up to Vinnie and the family to decide whether or not to forgive, not the fans. Dime was his BROTHER!
NEXT!

"I´ve been playing guitar for almost 20 years and i cry when i hear ppl like hendrix... Not becuase it´s good... but cause it´s so fucking crappy."
Hendrix practically invented heavy guitar. Took it to an unheard of level back then. The list of important guitar players who were influenced by Hendrix wouldn't even fit in one of these threads, just too damn many. Somebody needs to learn some history.
NEXT!

"Like Jimi Hendrix, Van Gogh, Jim Morrison, and Ghandi before him, Darrel is only being worshiped because he's dead."
I'll give you Van Gogh, but every other person in your list was absolutely revered while still alive, including Dime.
NEXT!

"I swear that if anyone claims Clapton is a good guitarist , i would suggest a headexamination."
Well, the first examination might go to Eddie Van Halen, who used to stay up all night copying Clapton's solos. Now tell me EVH sucks, and I'll tell you who needs the head examination.
NEXT!

Oh, never mind, TiredOfBeingAlive just needs some medication, that's all.

And I have probably 2000+ cds in my collection, but I don't have one by Pantera and I probably never will. I don't care for their music in the slightest. I've heard 'Walk' and other songs on Sirius radio, so don't say I've never heard them. I do have him on the Space Ace Frehely tribute on Shrapnel and that sounds good, but that's about it. I disagree on both accounts. Listen to Slaughter in the Vatican and The Law and tell me that phil isnt going for Kyle Thomas vibe, not to mention some of the riffs and guitar tone. Lars cant play a groove to save his life. Sure I love Metallica in their heyday, but they were never about groove. That said, theyve both buried the hatchet and acknowledged (each others) influence I believe (Pantera and Exhorder).

In regards to Phil, he is a huge reason why Pantera got heavier to begin with (well I am the Night is pointing towards that at times) and threw all those influences in the pot. I agree those guys should bury their respective hatchets, because life is far too short to have that type of attitude. And, besides, I would rather hear the worst drunken Down rehearsal on an old four track tape spoiled with beer before I would listen to even a note of a Hellyeah song..
