You watch a video like this and realize the size venues they sell out still today and then come on this board and read the 5 to 10 people that say, Metallica sold out, we hate them, St Anger sucks, the new album will suck....makes me laugh. On this video you see that Metallica is still today the most real and relevant metal band in the world. When James speaks of Metallica being from their hearts you are reminded that most metal bands are fakes. Metallica has always been genuine and real and wrote from their hearts, not to sell albums such as Slayer.

count me as the 11th guy saying that St Anger sucks and that they are a shadow of themselves. It's called aging.
Or even better: that Lars lost touch with the basis in '92 when he started to smell the green. Hell, even nine years ago they used to FEEL their own music onstage, sth. I highly doubt that applies for today.
It's okay to love Metallica today - they will become the grand grandfathers in heavy rock just like the Stones in their own respect - I still like them myself - BUT I guess only those of us who have felt the intensity of their shows to the mid-90s know what it used to be all about. The shiver when the bass intro to Bells started or the raging madness and the pits during Whiplash. You wouldn't get away without "souvenirs" like a black eye, but you would remember that night for the rest of your life.
Nowadays it's LAME, FUCKING LAME ASS! BTW: Slayer are repeating themselves and have started to get worse onstage a 4-5 years back. But they are still more intense - just like the audience. The same thing with Metallica, except for the fact that they are too relaxed, just like the audience...

Just because they play what they feel, it doesn't make them metal. I'll give you this, Metallica probably does play from their heart. Too bad it's not metal (ie: the genre they dominated at one point in time). At The Gates was a real METAL band. Metallica is a real band. That's about all they still have going for them, because the only metal part they have left are the first 5 letters of their name.

KREATOR nails these guys to the wall, live and on record, and they could also produce a better non-metal album than Metallica if they would like to.

Metallica have sucked now for over 17 years!!!! and they arent that good live! even playing Master of Puppets didnt help them. and most of these people who come to this big concerts with them only know a few songs of the black album, and they think they like metal but if you play them anything else they dont know it or dont like it!!! Slayer are many times better both live and on album. and Overkill, Megadeth, Testament are all much better bands also!
COMMENT | It can't possibly be any worse than St. Anger posted by : frontmanford 7/29/2008 3:02:28 PM
Perhaps that's why St. Anger was made; to make their next album sound stellar by comparison...No matter how good or how bad. They're old and possibly detached from heavy metal reality. It saddens me to think it. I'm a die hard fan of their first 3 albums. Hell, it took me a year to like "Justice". To the dude below: KREATOR is old, and boring. The guitars are thin. The drums are weak. The vocals insincere at best.. If you like "slop metal" I suppose their okay. If they were good they would've made it somewhere other than mentioned in a few Metal Edge articles 13 albums later. I only bring it up, because to try and steer people away from Metallica to listen to Kreator is like turning off Ninja Turtles to watch the Teletubbies. C'mon man...you should know better.

who have sucked over many years, you just didn't realize it. And you would think that others suck, in reality you suck.... Enough sucking. I don't think playing to 50.000 people means blowing their music. As you can hear the crowd is having fun. If they didn't like Metallica, they've could have left. Hail MetallicA.
COMMENT | No, it's definitely you posted by : mancubus 7/29/2008 3:45:24 PM
Playing for 50,000 people doesn't mean shit. Don't forget that 75% of the Earth's population is fucking retarded.
Playing for 50,000 people isn't why I say they're "blowing their music." It was Lars' decision to play on a coffee can as opposed to a snare, for one. How about the exclusion of Kirk Hammett solos? How about the incessant Napster witch-hunt they started?
There's many reasons that Metallica sucks now, but putting asses in seats isn't one of them.

One of the most influential thrash bands of the last 30 years- deserves their balls attached to electrodes with 100000 gigawatts of electricity flowing through them, while being submitted to chinese water torture, and having their nails bent back as well.
Fuck you.
Ask these thrash revival bands who they're influenced by, Exodus, Metallica and KREATOR!
You guys are just MTV Mall Rats who never heard German thrash and are scared of the accent. You'd rather hear some redneck country accent like Hetfield's so you can drive your broken down camaro back from the mall to the trailer park. Fuck you.
Enemy Of God> Anything since Justice. Period. Even with the much maligned Gothenburg influence (better than the alt influence Metallica appropiated for sure!)
Btw, I like Hetfields performance on Remember Tommorow, but the drums are missing the groove and creativity of Clive Burr. Its very boring and standard with Lars compared to the original. He needs drum lessons badly.

metallica is NOT a legendary band. what kind of so-called legendary band releases 3 crap albums...IN A ROW! Truly great bands don't even release 1 crap album EVER! Granted, metallica's first 5 albums are legendary (with the help of dave mustaine for the first 2), but 5 legendary + 3 crap doesn't equal 1 legendary band.

Ps: People who think Metallica isnt one of the best live acts today are talking out of their asses, critics and fans alike agree that they are the best ;)

i like true blue hard rock more than i like metal, and i must say, load and reload SUCK! im not a big fan of nu metal, but i must say, i would MUCH rather listen to bullet for my valentine than that load of crap that is called st. anger.
hey i love all types of music and i am all for change and trying new things, but thats no excuse for SUCKING!

Well, only thing I can say is thats your personal opinion, but the general opinion with people who have given the album a chanse (in my experience) is that it is great, better than TBA. Even a megadeth fan who is a friend of mine who always ahd this attitude to hate everything post "justice" gave it a chanse a some time ago, and he loves "Load" now. So I suggest you give it a new listen with an open mind.
Btw, all those bands you listed have come out with "crappy"/bad albums. Also, gnr has always sucked ;) Hehe.

I browse this web-site on a daily basis, almost for 2 years now I've tried to not post here, as most of you are morons. You bicker and whine (esp. about Metallica) which I'll never understand.
If you cannot see that Metallica is just AS IMPORTANT to the realm of heavy metal as Sabbath and even Zep, your as I said above: a moron.
It's true that Metallica 'sold-out', and what not. This is basically common knowledge amongst us metal fans, and yet theres a slew of you that feel the need to point this out in EVERY thread. Why? That's all I want to know. Do you truly hate these guys that bad?
The beauty of the internet is that you can basically say what you feel without repocussions, which suits most of you just fine, cowards.
I'm not trying to defend Metallica, as they def. don't need my help, however, just a few misleading points I saw some of you try to pass off as fact in your posts:
-Napster. The band went to court b/c 'I Dissapear' was being played on radio stations AND IT WASN'T EVEN COMPLETE.
-Slayer and Megadeth. Both of these bands I love, but to say they're nothing like Metallica is turing a blind eye to the truth. BOTH Slayer and Megadeth have gone commericial, and written commericial tunes. It doesn't matter what form of commercialism, they still did it. Don't think so? Pit 'Piece by Piece' against 'Bloodline'. Yea, that's what I thought...
-Hetfield with a redneck accent? Do you even listen to Metallica?
I don't mean to come off as some self righetous dick, 'cuz I'm not. I love metal. I wake up in the morning b/c of metal (well guitar, really, but metal all the same) Metal has been with me thru the darkest of times, and it's help mold me into who I am today. ALL I'M SAYIN' IS....
Do you guys have to constantly post the same PREDICTABLE, negitive comments about Metallica in EVERY.SINGLE.THREAD??
Show some class and maybe you'll be looked upon with some class...

there is Fuel, Devil's Dance, The House that Jack built, Bleeding Me (great one) and Until it sleeps. The rest sucks hairy and extraordinarily large donkey balls in my personal opinion. Well, that's my two cents of giving the albums a chance. after I stopped vomitting for three years from 1996 on. wait, probably mine is not a very general opinion.

and thats why metallica barely plays anything from the post black album era live...they know it sucks
they have even admitted themselves that they consider the load era songs to be mediocre and st. anger was something they just needed to get outta their system, like a purge. if this new album sucks i wonder what their new excuse will be. their crappy album count will then be at 4 versus 5 great albums. not a good ratio.
truly great bands dont even ever have a single bad recording, because anything they touch at least has something in it thats interesting...gimme one bad recording by any of the bands i listed...or other great bands like megadeth, rage against the machine, alice in chains, black sabbath, hendrix

COMMENT | Plihtari posted by : resunikufesin 7/29/2008 6:37:00 PM
just for fun - a little recipe for you:
attach your ears to your loudspeakers while reload is spinning, push first the the repeat button and do not stop listening to it ATTENTIVELY unless you have heard it three times.
then again compare it to risk, and hopefully then you have a real grip on which album is really worse.
if not, you are not likely to take off your pink fan goggles.
and btw: killing is my business is one in roughly 20 groundbreaking early metal classics from between 1978 and 1985, which is generally acclaimed, though the sound sucks badly. first five metallica albums are, too. and while i don't like united abominations, bleeding me is always a nice tune.
however, if you suffer from agonistic reactions after listening to megadeth you should consult Dr. Lars Ulrich and ask him what he thinks about Rust in Peace and Peace Sells, or about his favourite records of 86...

Hehe. I like most people who like heavy metal listen to megadeth, I actually started to like them before Metallica, but in my opinion Risk is far worse than either Load or Reload. Nothing to do with being a fan boy, thats just how I hear it, and most musicians I hang around with also do.
So, no I dont dislike Megadeth I like most of their early records, but their overall cataloge isnt close to being as good as Metallicas.

hahaha rage against the machine are not that great band, their songs are so similar, saw them live few weeks ago, they were good but got a little boring, they are all the same, Zack talking or rapping and then some riffs you can jump to. but they were better live then Metallica, saw them 2 years ago and Master of Puppets couldnt even save them, from being just ok, Motorhead blew them off the stage. have seen many bands live over the last 4 years and most of them were better!! Megadeth, Dio, Ozzy, Slayer, In Flames, Keith Caputo, GNR, Opeth, Sebastian Bach, Overkill, Massive Attack, Porcupine Tree, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Radiohead, BLS and many more, and they were all much better then Metallica, but Metallica is ok but nothing more.

I cannot stand it when these fucking losers say that Metallica sold out. That phrase is used so much it's become a cliche'. I've been around the "Music Scene" for about 25 years and the only thing that has not changed is unsuccessful people/bands call those that have succeded sell outs. What are they supposed to do? sound like Slayer? no thanks. Metallicas music has skirted the safe zones for over 2 decades while bands like Slayer have kept in their compfortable little holes. Metallica fucking rocks and the new album sounds fantastic.
