BitTorrent News Web Site Claims It Has Proof BUCKCHERRY 'Leak' Was Inside Job - July 31, 2008
The popular BitTorrent news web site TorrentFreak has published a lengthy article allegedy exposing the recent "leak" of a BUCKCHERRY track, "Too Drunk…", as covert form of self-promotion. According to the site, the track wasn't leaked by pirates, but by one of the band's managers.

When BUCKCHERRY found out that its latest single had leaked on BitTorrent, the band didn't try to cover this up, or take the file down. Instead, they issued a press release, where they stated: "Honestly, we hate it when this s*** happens, because we want our FANS to have any new songs first."

According to TorrentFreak, the uploader of the original file, a New York resident, had only uploaded one torrent, the BUCKCHERRY track. When TorrentFreak entered the IP-address into the Wiki-scanner, it apparently found out that the person in question had edited the BUCKCHERRY Wikipedia entry, and added the name of the band manager to another page.

After sending the band manager — who happens to live in New York — an email to ask for his opinion on its findings, TorrentFreak says that it received a response to its email within a few hours, and found out that the manager's IP address was the same as that of the uploader.

Read the entire TorrentFreak article at this location.

BUCKCHERRY recently released a "dirty viral video" for "Too Drunk…". Watch it below.

That song cracked me up but I don't really know what a great message it is to send out that being drunk and on dope all day is "cool". It's only "cool" if you're getting paid to do it, and even then, I dunno...these guys are probably all sober or something, lol...

Bands do this all the time, to look like they're "underground" and "cutting edge" and "for the people".

Not many people know this, but Soundgarden's "Ultra Mega OK" was financed by A&M. They were already signed to A&M, but the label wanted them to put it out through SST so they'd have "street cred".

True story!

ditto with smashing pumpkins' gish. what an amusing time in the history of music....when in order to have commercial aspirations and be commercially successful, it was uber-important to create the illusion of "street cred" by having history with an indie label, therefore making your ensuing success look like an accident. cracks me up.

Didn't know that. Who financed "Gish"? Was it put out on Sub Pop, or one of those "Hip Indie" labels?

Now that I think about it, GnR also did it. According to Slash's book, they were wasting too much time after they got signed, so they released the demos they had done on the "Uzi Suicide" label that Geffen set up for them. They added crowd noise, and released it as a "live" album.

Everyone in this country knows this land is a stolen country. But It's not like the original occupants are gonna be paid for the mineral rights & such.
