DEF LEPPARD Singer Reportedly Calls POISON Drummer A 'F**king Idiot' During Texas Concert

"C'mon C'mon", the new video from DEF LEPPARD, can be viewed below. DEF LEPPARD kicked off the second leg of its U.S. tour Wednesday night (July 30) at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. In her review of the show, Miriam Ramirez of The Monitor wrote, "[ DEF LEPPARD singer Joe] Elliott used his time on stage to fuel the ongoing beef between [him and] POISON drummer Rikki Rockett and Bret Michaels who were forced to defend their rock credentials after a jab from Elliott. 'Just like Rikki Rockett... f-ing idiot. He's just never seen a good band before,' Elliott said after some technical difficulties." DEF LEPPARD's setlist was as follows: 01. Rocket02. Animal03. This Joe Elliot guy needs to shut the fuck up already. He thinks hes so fucking tough and that Def Leppard and way ahead of bands like Poison and Motley Crue. Last time I checked both Poison and Motley Crue still had their balls in tack and don't avoid their past like its some sort of fucking disease. Granted Poison was never a very heavy band but they have no problems playing songs like "Look What The Cat Dragged In". Motley Crue will play whatever from their back catalog and not avoid heavy songs because they think they are some fucking Backstreet Boys like Def Leppard. Seriously Def Leppard stopped being a good band after Hysteria. Incase they forgot they did do a killer fucking album called "On Through The Night" which featured tons of great heavy metal songs like 'Hello America', 'Wasted', 'Answer To The Master', and 'Rock Brigade'. They are so hell bent on being like Bon Jovi (another one who avoids their first two albums with the exception of 'Runaway') or Bruce Springsteen. Seriously take a fucking look at where you got started and know that it was albums like On Through The Night that got people interested in you in the first place. Say what you want about Poison or Motley Crue but they are still great bands whereas you guys are old timers trying to be current but failing at life. You can only play "Bringing on the Heartbreak" so many times and the only reason youre probably playing "Mirror Mirror" is because Icarus Witch covered it last year with Joe Lynn Turner on vocals and that single cover track smoked anything you have done the past 18 years.

Def Leppard's main artistic contributer, since their first album, was Mutt Lange. This is why "On Through The Night" was so different then the next three. Mutt wrote the music, wrote or changed most of the lyrics, and actually played all the drums since they were all Fairlight starting with High 'n Dry. The reason why Def Leppard has sucked since was because they haven't had Mutt Lange telling them what to do. Def Leppard is about as real of a rock band as The Monkees were. Totally contrived.

Joseph John "Mutt" Lange was the gentlemen who produced High 'n Dry, Pyromania and Hysteria, along with AC/DC's Highway To Hell and Back in Black, Foreigner 4, Britney Spears' "Hit Me Baby One More Time" single and virtually everything by Shania Twain, who he's married to. When he took on Def Leppard, hid plan was to have them put out the biggest selling rock record of all time over a period of three releases, as long as they what he told them, when he he told them and how he told them. It was Mutt Lange who fired Pete Willis, Mutt Lange who sang backup and played at least 1 guitar part on virtually everything they released during that three album string, Mutt Lange who virtually rewrote all of the song lyrics and musical arrangements to those three records, and Mutt Lange who wouldn't let Rick Allen play drums on the albums, two records BEFORE he lost his arm. Joe Elliot even admitted back in the day that they had recorded virtually the whole of Hysteria without him (he was producing Foreigner's Agent Provacetuer at the time) and they had to throw all away because it sucked. Then Mutt is almost killed in a car wreck, so the break for the holidays early. Then Rick Allen gets in his wreck, and that's why Hysteria isn't released until 1987. Mutt rewrote everything and Clark became even more of a drunk because he realized he couldn't write for shit. or least not good enough to sell 10 million copis. This was also the last time Mutt produced Def Leppard. Coincidence that virually everything Def Leppard has but out since sucks? Because none of them were that talented to begin with. They were a studio creation, plain and simple. Just like the Monkees, New Kids On The Block and Nsync. Without Mutt Lange, Def Leppard would have never been bigger than Saxon or Girlschool. With Poison and Motley Crue, their producers were too busy doing lines off the soundboard to really fuck with them too much. Every L.A. band from the 80's with the exception of Ratt was realer than Def Leppard and Joe Elliot knows it. That's why he runs his fucking mouth. End of story.

I used to think Poison was cool until they screwed over some of their fans--myself included--a couple of days ago on the recent tour. Refusing to come out until you get your way? Pathetic. Anyway...Poison treats their fans with disrespect, and all they have done for the last decade is recycle the same old songs--over and over and over--while the rare new stuff is bland at best. Elliott's right about the drummer, the singer, and the whole band. They way over-estimate their value to the music scene.

Tin Omen--Not kidding. They didn't make us spread out, though--they made us bunch together b/c they didn't sell enough tickets to the show to hear the crowd well enough--at least for the opening acts. My wife and I decided it wasn't worth it and actually walked out of the concert instead of moving. We saw the other two bands--good enough. Worst part was that they threatened to not come out if people didn't move and made the event staff do their dirty work. Who needs Poison? Not I.

It seems like you are very interested in Def Leppard even if you all say that the band ain't good anymore. At least Def Leppard members reached a big success more than once, perhaps something that you will never, ever meet.

This is kinda like WWE, a fake that make people act like retards. I hink that this advertising Joe is giving to Poison will help them a lot after all. A couple of months ago no one was really interested about Poison (I do not hate them, they have their couple of good songs too).
If people have issues between them it's totally normal. Even brothers fight sometimes. Here is an example, I bet that Tin Gayman and Gay-Levine have cat fights very often but they seem to be still together. There are rumors that they are planning to get married but they are waiting in order to move to a "GAY MARRIAGE IS ALLOWED" state.

Thought I'd throw in a few comments. I have been a hard rock fan (that is my preferred term) for a long time - though I do like a range of music to go along with that. All comments about who likes who better is everyone's individual opinion. Joe elliott was asked by the reporter what he thought of the la glam bands remember. To put into perspective - take a look at the cover of look what the cat dragged in - poison's 1st album from 1986 - and tell me what you see - be honest.
I like some poison songs, in fact quite a few, and motley crue are one of my favourite bands - I have owned the crue albums from shout up to feelgood over the years and shout and girls are two of my favourite albums. Tommy has been my favourite drummer and I think he is good musically as is rick allen - you can't diss a guy who can lose a limb and still drum and sound better than some two armed drummers. comments about him not playing drums on leppard albums are complete lies - and since the mid 90s he is playing a regular drum kit too.
Leppard also use their real names. I loved reading about sixx (real name frank ferrano -I think) in the music mags but the point is the names are fake -that is part of the point of what elliott said. His comments were saying def leppard werent' about that. Was motley crue even mentioned in the interview by the way?, even if I love a bunch of crue songs, and even poison, no one touches leppard for songwriting. Sorry folks- yes I know you can quote pour some sugar on me or lets get rocked - so what? they don't claim the song is a blowing in the wind lyric - but they don't appear on album covers looking like girls - or do their own reality tv show - come on, that’s attention seeking and doesn’t spell out credibility and substance to me.
Speaking of production - you know the slick over produced crap some of you claim def leppard had done with mutt lange - some of their albums took a long time to produce (yet again - so what? and hysteria and pyromania have an excellent sound regardless of if you don't like def leppard) but anyone who owns poison's swallow this live from 1991 only has to listen to it to know some bullshit is going on there. Def lep may have spent a long time recording some of their albums but at least they are playing their instruments and don’t pretend anything is fake. Listen to swallow this live and there is crowd noise throughout the album - there is no concert I have been to where people cheer and scream for two hours without stopping. The recording has been doctored up boys.
Vince neil has a pretty weak voice so how do you think it sounds so forceful on the albums - because it has been played around with in production to boost the sound. So the crue and poison doctor up recordings to hide weaknesses. Does that make them production bunnies? Back on image and poison - I still have circus magazines from the early 90s where bret michaels is talking about cc leaving the band and quote - when you go on the mtv music awards with puffed up purple hair looking like bozo the clown people aren't going to take you seriously - end quote. That says quite a bit don't you think. That s when cc left to form the cc deville experience (as in the jimi hendrix experience). Yeah right cc, you are as good as hendrix.
Def Leppard had their commerical and creative highpoints as every band does and then its up to each band to continue on if they love doing it and see if they are real and are stayers. The fact that all three of these bands are going speaks of some substance to do that.
Motley crue are heavier then leppard, that’s a fact, on some albums. That doesn't equate to who is a better quality band. Though if I think about theatre of pain it doesn't actually rock that hard. All you headbangers pumping your fists to a cover version of smokin n the boys room - its not hard rock, and a bunch of songs on feelgood – she goes down, sticky sweet – mindblowing rock there. Does ‘don’t go away mad’ rock you as hard as shout at the devil? I think not. and nikki sixx said in the dirt biography - between shout and feelgood he wrote two good songs (my guess is wildside and girls girls girls). Not to make stuff up - read it for yourself.
As for glam metal - leppard ended up being part of 'hair metal' for sure. That’s what people called it in retrospect. Still prefer the hard rock term. But if you remember leppard became massive in the usa in 1983 with pyromania - after starting in england in 1977. they didn’t form part of any genre because there wasn’t one going. They probably started a genre and probably true they define a genre. Better to be a leader than a follower though. Van halen was about the only successful band going. so to say lep are part of a glam metal scene is ridiculous, and they simply cant be part of the LA glam metal scene. Like I said they are still part of the hair metal movement as they had long hair. I'd still prefer long hair (which really doesn't look like a mullet) than peroxide green and purple hair. Van halen are from Pasadena – near la, but they started in 78 so they don’t form part of the la glam metal scene but would be considered part of hair metal as they had long hair, of all things! Bon jovi, were part of hair metal too for a while – but are from new jersey so aren’t part of la glam metal.
There is a classic album episode for hysteria for a reason, which sorry to say crue and poison won't ever have.. and leppard had a vh1 episode on pyromania. That’s two albums there treated as classics. Both of which sold more than 10 million in america - that’s a lot of albums bought by americans. That’s a fact. And leppard has outsold poison and crue put together - fact. No that doesn't mean they have sold out - just because you sell a lot of records doesn’t mean you sell out. Any claims about over production are a poor attempt to say hysteria didn't cut it as a rock album. If you had listened to the whole album you would know. It may have won a few production awards too - but so what - you're probably pissed that poison or crue albums didn't win the awards.
Lets me be emotional now - def leppard wipe the floor with any artist, (probably because they always have been and always will be my favourite artist). They have lasted 30 years putting out albums regularly and are a real band. I still like the crue and poison, but leppard are in a different class to them. That doesn't mean you have to like them if you don't or you think the crue are better. But that’s my opinion.
However if anyone else from a different genre was putting crap on the crue and poison I’d defend them to the hilt – but when it comes to leppard – there is no one else.

It ain't about placing comments about who we don't like. It's about who let us down as fans. After Pyromania Def Leppard lost touch with fans and made touch with $$. If they and Poison aren't great examples of this, then who ARE???? They are the epitome of sellout. If you think quality of music has to do with how much $$$ is made and the image (mullets/she-males) then you are mistaken.
There is much better out there. Musicians, the best of them, don't need to do that shit to compensate for what they like. Teenage and ex-teenage trailer women, might not agree with me; however, they are the ones that make these bands full of $$$ nowadays!
Ask me and I will list SO many bands that are real and also made it!

leppard are the epitome of sellout lost touch with the fans and aren't real! thats your opinion. i've never been let down as a fan as i am one. to me - hysteria is the best album ever made - thats my opinion. i don't recall saying quality of music = $$. if you think thats what i wrote then you are mistaken. i'm sure there are plenty of artists who don't sell but are good musicians - that doesnt mean artists who have sold heaps of records sold their soul to do it and aren't good musicians. but i wrote about album sales because i can. so what are these bands - in your opinion that are real (unlike leppard as you say) and made it and also what are your top 3 favourite artists.

Obviously we are stating our opinions. No need to point that one out. That being said, I and many, many others, realize that there was a drastic change from the good riff oriented hard rock that these guys wrote on their first 3 albums. After that they changed drastically and intentionally to write music for a certain genre primarily consisting of teenage females - the largest album consumers EVER! If Def Leppard and Poison are n't sellout acts, then WHO ARE? Any type of drastic change to something that is intentionally created, in cooperation with the labels request, into something as cheesy as, "I'm hot, sticky sweet, from my head to my feet yea!" OR "Let's get, let's get, let's get RAWWWKED!!!" They never wrote shit like that! No substance whatsoever! I remember well, when the girls who were getting laid and smoking everything at 11 Yrs., of age were wearing their Hysteria concert shirts. The labels ploy worked well!
I don't remember ever saying they lost touch with some fans but yes, I do agree with this. That isn't opinion, it is a fact.
You want me to tell you which bands made it big and are "real"? I don't really know what you mean by "real" but I do know who I like a lot and consider to not really be sellouts. Ok, we've got RUSH, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Tool, Alice in Chains, Slayer, Metallica (old Metallica), A Perfect Circle, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dio (any of his projects), Soundgarden, Radiohead, Motorhead, Pantera, AC/DC and many, many others. The list is almost endless. These are bands that played what they wanted to play without trying to target an audience with their record label. Except for Metallica, these bands all basically have been writing music that they enjoy and with absolutely no intentions whatsoever of trying to capitalize from a specific type of record purchasing audience such as teenage girls. In fact, some of these artists know that they aren't pretty and neither is their music which can detract any young teenage girl at a very fast rate. Doesn't matter, these bands play what they want and love what they play and didn't turn into a band that looks like Poison or writes cheesy ballads or songs like Pour Some Sugar on me which, quite frankly, is as pop oriented as can be. If that song isn't sellout pop then what IS?? If 5 grown men go out of their way to write shit like that after they made three albums that are NOTHING like it, then I think it's fair to say they were doing it for the $$$ and the labels who also only care about the $$$. No integrity toward their craft. No pride.
Look at Tool and Pantera. Tool went to court with their label because they refused to change! These bands made it without any airplay or videos or making chick oriented pop fluff music. They worked real hard and toured a lot. Then they got some support all of a sudden from their labels. I put Radiohead in there because they are as experimental as it gets. It just so happens that people like it. Radiohead didn't have any agenda.
I could write a song that goes, "Ooh, ooh baby, said whatcha got?? Ooh yea baby said that's quite a lot YYEEEOOWOWW!!! Ooh, ooh baby, said what's in your head? Said ooh, ooh baby let's jump into bed!" I mean that shit SELLS to teenage girls! To me, this is what Def Leppard did. They went into a direction that appeals to lonely, desperate housewives. They, too, are the ones BUYING the records. I only say this from what I've seen in my life. I've been around and have seen a lot in my 35 Yrs of age. I don't say it to brag. Sometimes I wish I didn't see certain things!

Oh yea, I did say that fans were let down. No big deal though. I don't even listen to this band anymore. Here and there I put on one of the first 3 albums but there are so many more performers/musicians that I am trying to know and learn more about nowadays. It's never ending, trying to weed out the weak!

Joe Elliott can say what he wants when he wants, he's earned that. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and in my opinion what he said is true. I never took Poison seriously, anyone who wears more make up than I do, pouts their lips in every picture taken and stars in a reality TV show with tramps who look like they all have some form of an STD is kind of hard to take seriously. I mean, "Will you stay and rock my world?" I wasted 30 minutes of my life once that I will never get back watching that Rock of Love Garbage. By the way Brett do you EVER take that ridiculous bandanna off your head or are you really going bald or something? Joe may have sported a mullet, but he was gorgeous doing so. Def Leppard writes great music and I think they are one of the best bands that came out of the late 70's and eighties and they continue to come out with great music. They have aged well and grown up and I can take my son to see them and not have to worry about the crap that I would at a Poison or Motley Crue concert. Joe Elliott and Def Leppard are so far and above these guys, that is why Def Leppard is performing with Taylor Swift on Cross Roads and Brett Michaels is probably in contract negotiations for Rock of Love 3. Need I say more? So, to all the people trash talking Def Leppard on this blog, I bet Joe Elliott's bank account tells a different story and you do not get where they are today by "sucking". Def Leppard is rock n roll and they had their own trend, they were not followers and that is what sets them apart from the copy cats that came out in the 80's. They were first, then along came Posion, White Lion, etc. Def Leppard WAS NOT a Glam-band, they are a rock n roll band!!!!!

you don't know what i mean by 'real' bands'? you said it in your above post to ask you. you didn't mention your favourite bands either. your list of bands was predictable - some of those bands i couldn't care less about and are pretty fucking boring. and yes i have heard dio, tool, a perfect circle, motorhead - i saw motorhead twice in recent years on a bill playing before leppard and when motorhead opened for motley crue. and you have mentioned safe bands like floyd, led zep, maiden ac/dc. by safe i mean as if i'm going to put crap on those bands. they are legendary even if i am not totally into zep and floyd. everything you said is still just your opinion about leppard being the ultimate sellout. you just don't like them. and all the teengage girl crap - teenage girls don't buy albums from a band who was at their peak of popularity 15 - 25 years ago, because they weren't born when pyromania and hysteria came out so why would they be into leppard now.. i can give you a run down on market demographics too.
tired of the repeated if you are into leppard you are gay. i think iron maiden are a great band and saw them in concert earlier this year. they were fantastic. so i am gay for liking def leppard but not gay for liking maiden, because you like maiden. what crap - everyone is into what they are into for their own reasons - most probably because the music means something to them and they enjoy putting the record on. end of story.

Def Leppard - Out Performs - Out Sells - Out writes Poison time and time again. The fact that Rikki Ream as in Ream of toilet paper- chucks a spac is because they know their music is rubbish. Also they all changed their names! Cos they were embarrassed with themselves. If they truly believed they were a great band they wouldnt be so upset.

They did make money with Pyromania you ignorant. Hysteria just reached an unexpected level of sales also giving Def Leppard more fans worldwide. Is that a sin to be a band and make money. Yeah, I don't think Joe Elliott has a lot of room to bash Poison. You wanna talk about sellouts "Def Leppard", Heavy Metal band to Pop Metal Band, to Crap! The keep changing their style every few years. At least Poison is the same type of band they always have been. I don't know how many people would call "Pour Some Sugar on Me" music of substance. From the Def Leppard albums I've owned I can't really say that they make music of substance. Joe Elliott's pretty much a worthless prick anyway. I saw Def Leppard play a concert with Journey. Def Leppard stunk that place up, it was one of the worst concerts I've attended. Joe Elliott had almost no voice, and he refuses to alternate with his coheadliners, who usually blow Def Leppard off the stage. I hope Rikki Rockett kick's Joe Elliott's ass! For the shit he's talking about him, he deserves it. Poison kicks Def Leppard's ass anyday!
