METALLICA: 'Death Magnetic' Release Date Announced

METALLICA has officially set Friday, September 12 as the "worldwide" release date for its new album, "Death Magnetic". Assuming that the band has yet to announce separate release dates for the different parts of the world (since physical CDs are virtually never released on the same day "worldwide"), the September 12 date in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (where albums are traditionally issued on Fridays) would indicate that the album would arrive in the U.S. on Tuesday, September 16, with most of continental Europe getting the CD one day earlier on September 15. Tuesdays are when almost all CDs are issued in the U.S. **************************** UPDATE: * According to CDJapan.co.uk, the Japanese release date for "Death Magnetic" is Wednesday, September 10. * According to Amazon.co.uk, the UK release date for "Death Magnetic" is Monday, September 15. **************************** METALLICA's new CD will be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on the same day the album arrives in stores. The band is offering the record for sale in numerous configurations, ranging from a digital-only release to a deluxe "coffin box" that will come with a bonus CD, a DVD, a T-shirt, guitar picks and other goodies. I am often amazed by the lack of critical thinking skills amongst the news editors on this site. It says worldwide. That means it will be released on that date. People won't be waiting until the 16th in the US. Tuesday is an artificial release date within the industry anyway. It is just done that way for the sake of bookkeeping. You can release it anytime you want and demand will be the deciding factor in shipping.
Also, Metallica has indicated that those who pre-order in the US, will be guaranteed street-date delivery (which is September 12th).
Based on previous releases, the single will be released in the final week of August (perhaps on the final Thursday) with the video following the next day (likely a Friday).

St. Anger came out on a Friday. They pushed up the release date at the last minute, I remember. So it doesn't HAVE to come out on a Tuesday. I bet they are purposely insuring that it arrives on the 12th all over the world, so that the Mission Metallica members are sure to all have it on the same day so they don't get a bunch of hatred and pissed off customers.

I actually lost most of my faith w/ this band when they released the black album, but somehow a small part of me kept wishing they would one day return to their glory days..
From what I've read about this new one, there might be a small glimmer of hope olthough I choose to remain highly skeptical after the last 4 disappointing albums.

Metallica will probably release the album early to prevent all the shit from internet leaks. I would expect them to release it on the 9th in the U.S. if it does leak early. Looking forward to hearing it, even though I was disappointed with St. Anger. Hell, even if it's a great album, it's a lose-lose situation for them since people will bitch about anything from ballads, to "it sounds too much like The Black Album", or "they're just trying to make money by copying earlier albums".

On September 12, the big question will be answered: Will The Pussy Album suck even more than Load, Reload and St. Anger? Of course, I won't actually buy this record. A few days after I bought Load, I swore never to give any of my money to Lars Ulrich and his business associates anymore. Fortunately, thanks to the internet, I will still be able to listen to the new album and congratulate myself for not wasting any money on another turd, which The Pussy Album will almost certainly be.

It seems the done thing nowadays to jump on the bandwagon & disrespect the mighty metallica. How many of these monkeys have even held a guitar, let alone try to strum a simple open a chord. In 1985, i was accused of jumping on the bandwagon by saying i liked metallica!
