VELVET REVOLVER In Negotiations With 'Big-Name' Vocalist - Aug. 1, 2008
VELVET REVOLVER has been looking for a new frontman since dismissing Scott Weiland back in April. Rumored candidates have included ex-SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach, former MTV VJ Steve Isaacs (THE PANIC CHANNEL) and ex-SPACEHOG vocalist Royston Langdon, who has apparently had several successful rehearsal sessions with the band.

Speaking to the Artisan News Service on July 23, 2008 at a fashion event in Los Angeles, VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum stated about the group's lead singer search, "We got a call from a pretty big guy who wants to be our singer. I can't say who that is yet but talks are happening about it and hopefully we'll see what happens in the next couple of months."

Asked about the possibility of Sebastian Bach joining VELVET REVOLVER, Sorum said, "No. No, it's a lot cooler than that but I don't know if it's going to happen so I can't say. It's cool that people are calling us and wanting to get in the band, so that's exciting."

Langdon performed last month with VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash at a charity event in Las Vegas.

Langdon's previous band, SPACEHOG, released three albums before breaking up in 2002. Their gold-selling 1995 debut, "Resident Alien", featured the hit "In The Meantime".

Weiland reunited with his previous act, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, and is currently on the road with them.

John Corabi is too logical a choice, makes too much sense, would make them sound the way most people think they should sound.thats why They would never choose him.Hes not hip enough, not current enough, not alternative enough to facilitate thier consistant selling out. They sold out by choosing weiland to escape the guns signature sound. They sold out by going further away from that sound progressively on both albums.

the guy from space hog makes perfect sense.Space Hog.Space hog is about as close to the guns sound as STP, no actually they werent as rock as STP.Of course, Space Hog was never really a big name band.I wouldnt be shocked if they pulled out Justin Timberlake at this point.Whoever it is, we will all read the headline and go "Ohhh bullshit"

I can't imagine matt sorum saying that john corabi would be "alot cooler" than sebastian bach...nor is he a pretty big name. Scabbing as the singer for a very washed-up 80's hard rock band does not make him a big name. I'm no VR fanatic either, but at least they've released relevant material this century.

It's probably Chris Cornell.

I will disagree with most assertions that it is Corabi, and agree with above statement from "Monk." If VR hopes to appeal to today's audience, a washed up 80s singer is hardly the route to take. They're going to want someone relevant that kids know of. Corabi would probably spell their end.

That's my two cents.

Bach
or any other 80's has been
Its gonna be a big name so it could be
Cornell-Doubt it very much tbh with new solo album imminent
Kravitz-V cool choice but they arent gonna rock any harder with him than with Weiland
Daughtry-I really think this guy could do it he sounds amazing on the 7dust tune The Past
Caputo-Outsider choice i think great voice but his he that BIG a name?
Langston-Jeez i cant remember Spacehog at all let alone what his voice sounds like??!
Patton-Would be another excellent choice cuz that muthafucker is just crazy and too out there for VR
Bush-Great singer not a big enough name tho
Astbury-Would fit right in but again not a big enough name anymore
Meeks-Another great singer but not a big enough name really
What about Wes Scantlin from Puddle of Mudd?Fairly big name great voice and certainly rocks harder than Kravitz and Langston!?

the choices have to be the following: Chris Cornell or Sebastian Bach. In negotiations means that they are working it out with their agents, etc. I'd love to see John Corabi and if he'd join the band all it would take is a hand shake and he's in. Same with the Space Hog guy.

So if the band are in talks with a big name guy, it's gotta be big enough to where they have their agent involved.

But man the band would kick alot of BALLZ with the CRAB!

speaking of ass, if he intrigues you, perhaps you could get to know him and expand his vocabulary. just kidding. kind of.

he sounds like a nice guy but metal heads are usually the kind of guys who push people into lockers in high school, not the ones getting pushed, so that's why people give him a hard time. he's probably a really nice guy who just happens to like music that's not really nice.

Though his ego doesn't seem to be able to handle the whole "band" thing these days. We can only hope it's him, if for only an album or two.

I do wish Mike Patton would do something more mainstream, a la Faith No More(and not Peeping Tom, that was garbage). I couldn't even begin to see him in VR.

Mitch Malloy would be great! He was offered the Van Halen gig a few years back. That would be great! He has the range, the look and can sing both styles.

zodiac mindwarp? haha, thats a real interesting choice.

i think its not gonna be someone that "big" and theyre just hyping it up.

dont think it will be baz, patton, corabi, caputo, any 80s guy...

brandon flowers, hilariously, makes sense.

if they could get billy idol, john bush, ian atsbury, or alice cooper, id be intrigued. but they wont.

lets see what other crazy guesses i can come up with

glenn danzig?
eddie vedder?
whitfield crane?
phil anselmo?
geoff tate?
maybe a country singer? david allen coe?

like someone said before, the search for the new singer might be the most interesting thing to ever come out of VR.

Ahh, so many choices, but its gonna be somebody who was in a band in the 80s/ early90s. or has a link to one of them somehow.
these are long shots, but i would like it to be one of the following:

Jani lane, (warrant)
the singer from Cinderella,
Taime Down (faster pussycat)
Michael Monroe (hanoi rocks)
Izzy Stradlin
Blaze bayley
London Legrand (brides of destruction)
DJ Ashba (Sixx AM)
Dee Sider (twisted sister)
Blackie lawless (WASP)

really doubt it would be any of these, but any one of them would be really cool.

This'll be vocalist number 3. Scott's already dead. This band is sunk. Ain't no big name vocalist gonna resurrect this band.
