SCOTT WEILAND Falls Into ERIC KRETZ's Drum Kit During STP's Phoenix Concert; Video Available

Jim Louvau of The Arizona Republic reviewed STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' July 29, 2008 concert at the the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. An excerpt from his review follows. "As lights went out and [ Scott] Weiland [vocals] appeared in front of his microphone stand muttering something about VELVET REVOLVER and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS before the rest of the band had even made their way on stage. Part of the beauty of attending a Weiland event is that you never know exactly what version of the singer is going to show up and the singer's erratic behavior set the tone early on for what would be a rough night for the '90s alt-heroes. "The lengthy set opened with 'Big Empty' from 'The Crow' soundtrack. Dressed in a grey suit Weiland stumbled around the stage and fell into drummer Eric Kretz's drum kit which confirmed he is now officially the Amy Winehouse of rock 'n' roll. When he did sing he often forgot words or changed them. 'Conversations Kill' quickly became 'Masturbation Kill'. "The singer's incoherent rants in between songs were cut off by his band members starting the next song to stop the bleeding. Guitarist Dean DeLeo and his brother bassist Robert DeLeo looked humiliated as they ripped through classics like 'Wicked Garden', 'Big Bang Baby' and 'Vasoline'." Weiland is a dick acting all rockstar as if it was still 1977. Behavior like this is no longer shocking or cool, it's sad and embarrassing.
He'll die and people will pretend to be sad to attach themselves to a tragedy. Let's get on with it already so maybe, just maybe, rock stations will realize that they need to update their playlists and, GASP!, give developing bands a break instead of playing the same Bush and STP songs.

Damn....I can understand defending your musical heroes, but people looking the other way and making excuses for Weiland is how he got where he is now.

what the biggest travesty is here.... Scott's horrible sense of keeping his vocals in tune and in time or Dean DeLeo's failed attempt at trying to play a slide guitar arrangement live. Im sure it only took 73 takes when they cut the track for the album. To be honest with you Scott almost eating shit was the highlight of this clip; at least that part was entertaining. The rest of it sounded like a deaf cover-band. This video is the perfect example of what happens when a band rehearses for 30 minutes and drinks for 7 hours instead of the other way around. Just say no boys.....

Knock it off, everytime you post on here about Weiland you sound like a girl with a teenage crush with a faulty capslock. He's out of key and out of shape. I've seen STP live 4 or 5 times now, including Hollywood Bowl THIS JUNE and they fucking KILLED every single time. They are a legendary live act, yet for some reason all they EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER get is relentless negative press. Even if Scott was off in this clip, his voice still sounded great and he was still putting on a show. Fucking get over it. This is how so many of the great rock bands have been at times. The press and you little idiot commentators are what's going to ruin the reunion of the one of the last best rock bands.

He was similarly bizarre when I saw STP last week in Paso Robles, CA. He doesn't seem happy, in fact he seems like he's pretty much over life. He did manage to be pretty funny at times, but part of me didn't want to laugh...
Dean, Robert, and Eric are so on top of their game, and the contrast between them and Weiland couldn't be more extreme. Still very much a band worth seeing live, I am just sad that Weiland has become such a shadow of his former self. It's seeming inevitable that we're in for a Talk Show / Army Of Anyone type of project again in the very near future, I just hope that it takes off for these guys, they're too amazing of a band to be tethered to somebody who clearly is committing a slow suicide.

Scott didn't fall in the clip. I watched the clip and he sounded good. He did have a little too much incoherent rambling during the beginning, but his singing sounded great. He isn't the only frontman to talk too much, so that's not a big deal. The band also played well.
The Blabbermouth headlines are so misleading. They tend to take one statement and blow it out of proportion. This supposed fall is another good example, and the article about Joe Elliott slamming Dio is another good example. Joe talked about a lot of issues in his interview, but Blabbermouth made the Dio zinger the headline.

Once people get to be Scott's age, I don't think they have a very good chance of changing their habits. I'm sure he will continue to take booze and other drugs.
I think some scientists need to examine the way that his body works or something, because it's amazing that he hasn't died yet.

The thing that makes me sad is the rest of the bands nervousness. I noticed they had no confidence in Scott at all. They couldn't even do there own thing right for straining to see what the hell he was doing. All eyes were on Scott. This was to pay the bills and thats all. It's over...he is fast becoming a sad skinny man...the talent wasted is the biggest disappointment. I would give anything to sing like that.

I like those stats you pulled, pretty good. What you also fail to mention is the interent and the impact on album sales. Yeah I know this can of worms as been rehashed 100x over, but it's a fact. No group sells as much as they did before the internet and free music (not to mention everything else).
I think tiny Music was pretty good, better than anything since (which I like). The reason sales dropped for that was because he went to jail before they could tour and promote the album.
Regardless of what Scott's doing now to himself and bandmates doesn't take away from the great stuff he's done in the past.
What have all you haters done????

If that drum riser wasn't there, he would have flipped backwards onto his face. Didn't all the apologists notice the roadies fixing the drum kit after Scott walked away...or how the Deleo's were shooting nervous looks at him when he walked out into the crowd? Looks like the VR guys were right. Scott looked like a walking dead man in that clip. And that's not cool or rockin'. It's just really, really sad.

He gave the best concert I've been to in San Antonio. You people pointing your fingers need to direct it at yourself first. You don't walk in his shoes. Until you do, quit judging, nobody's perfect. I still think he is awesome, addict or not.

Scott Weiland needs to stay in one of those LONG TIME rehab facilities and get himself clean.
He needs to be locked away from his wife, children, and treated as if he was a newborn child stripped of his clothes when he walks into the facility and put there in an inpatient role until he's made substancial progress to go home.
If he keeps on this track, he'll join the ranks of Hendrix, Joplin and Staley and be dead before hits 45.

Yup. He needs long term treatment. 28 day programs are a joke for a guy like this. He stops physically withdrawling after 28 days. Then he's got mental work and spiritual work. He needs a 6 month program at the least. Without it, he'll never stop. He's only going to get worse from here on in unless he gets that long term treatment.
At this point, he's not going to just "cut back" on his heroin problem or quit it on his own, it will get worse and wore as his tolerance rapidly increases. It is the same for everyone on this shit. Unless this happens, he is doomed to be on this shit for along time or just die from it.

i'm pretty upset that he's letting the drugs get the best of him, again. showing up late to shows and mumbling things about your bands isn't very appealing.
BUT...
i completely love scott weiland, his voice is amazing and i love his songs. i do hope he sobers up a lot and gets his act together. it would be horrible if he let the drugs take over like so many idols before him. hopefully he'll overcome his demons soon.
AND COME PLAY A SHOW IN INDIANA :D
p.s.
i definitely think everyones exaggerating about the falling into the drum kit, he barely touched it. everyones just so eager to see him fail...its sad.

People really do want to see him fail. It's sad to me. I don't want to see this guy fail to addiction. I always liked his music and his vocals. Even if I didn't I wouldn't want too see that shit happen. I swear people type such hateful shit but if they met the guy they would never say this shit to him.

granted its a slower song, but he does seem to be sort of just walking around. Had much more energy even in VR. He's probably at a low, like breaking up with a girl, being ousted by VR. It turns out, he was the one that got bounced for good reason. Though I'm a fan. When on his game, he's got a good voice, stage presense & is creative. Forget the record sales, the last STP CD was great! It just didn't get airplay, which is more sign of the times, most rock radio is so formulated. Its a great CD beginning to end, lots of great mellow tunes. Then they can rip your face off too. Deleo would have been a guitar hero in the 70's, while he does take a ton from Page, he's still very creative, lots of odd chords, rips it up good. I think the band is underrated, has tons of great hits, & deep cuts. Solid albums, every one if you're a fan. They were considered a Pearl Jam rip off to start, please, PJ is a complete bore.

You need to get a life if you were trying to make something out of this! The rumors that were going around you would have thought that he tackled the drum set! He leaned into it! NOT a big deal! As long as he is ok...then everything is perfect! I seen him this summer in Kansas City and in Oklahoma City! STP is by far the best band out there!
