GUNS N' ROSES: 'Appetite For Destruction' To Be Re-Released On Vinyl With Original Artwork
- Aug. 6, 2008
|
|
Universal Music will re-release GUNS N' ROSES' classic debut album "Appetite For Destruction" on vinyl. The LP is due on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 and the cover features the controversial original artwork by Robert Williams. Go to CD Universe to place your order today and be one of the first to receive this product when it arrives. Product Description: Already a legend in its own meagre lifetime, this startling debut shrouded itself in controversy, from its original Robert Williams artwork to Axl Rose's unblinking accounts of L.A.'s underbelly. This mawkish storytelling, combined with a brattish collective swagger and a surprisingly mature approach to their songs, guaranteed GUNS N' ROSES a speedy notoriety that was to serve their legend brilliantly. From the laconic "Paradise City" to the achingly beautiful "Sweet Child O' Mine", or the furious "Welcome To The Jungle", the record brims with a brutal integrity. An album they could never surpass even if they had stayed together. 120-gram vinyl LP pressing of their genre-defining debut full-length album, originally released in 1987. The LP cover features the controversial original artwork. **Please note that this vinyl pressing features "For Promotional Use Only" printed on the artwork. 2007 German edition in its original sleeve design. Recorded at Rumbo Studios, Canoga Park, California; Take One Studio, Burbank, California; Can Am Studio, Tarzana, California.

When will Universal open the vaults and release the GN'R catalog in an expanded/enhanced format? It also wouldn't hurt to release a few (if not all) of the 200+ classic GN'R shows that were professionally filmed.
This vinyl AFD reissue is a let down.

I want to echo what I *think* rockphantom was trying to say... A vinyl re-release is cool, but that album really needs to be remastered with the latest technology to make it sound as good as the LP version (and YES -- despite what vinyl-philes may wanna say, modern mastering techniques CAN make a CD sound as good as the original vinyl). They remastered a lot of the tracks on the "Best Of" CD but it's time for a proper remastering of THE definitive GNR album.

And I'm still kicking my ass for that episode.
A 'definitive' remastered version (on vinyl) would be cool. This re-release w/ the original cover art is still a nice gift for those who did not score large with it the first go-round (but of course most folks will claim they have it - more than the number actually released).
And still - why not get creative with this good shit?

"despite what vinyl-philes may wanna say, modern mastering techniques CAN make a CD sound as good as the original vinyl"
For an 80's recording which was made with some digital equipment in the process this might be true. But try listening to the latest CD issues of anything from the sixties or seventies. They PALE in comparison.
I used to think that vinyl was overrated by luddite obsessives. Until I got a turntable and started listening to wax. The fact is that vinyl simply has more depth and presence than digital. Digital sound has improved by leaps and bounds, and it can throw out more treble than an LP. But it can't compare in the realms of bass and presence. It's shocking to me that vinyl hasn't been surpassed by digital, and I'm sure it will be surpassed in the future. But for now, vinyl is audibly superior if you have decent equipment.
And I've got the AFD lp, albeit without the original cover. It sounds incredibly punchy when you compare it to the CD.

And for some of the posts above, dont worry because yours/ours original copy will still be as collectable as it is now. Time matters on this issues. A first edition is always a first edition.
Anyway, a 120 gram with original cover edition of this classic is always welcome.
My original copy is signed by Steven Adler, ¡rock n' roll groove drummer!

I too have the original vinyl, but I don't listen to it (I don't want to ruin it). I would've been glad to pick up a 120-gram version to actually listen to, but $30+ for a reprint is B.S. You could buy the original on ebay for that.
