It's hard to grasp songs from just a sample, but that left me cold.
Having second thoughts over this now

ehh is right, didin't really hear anyhing that's going to so called, "tear my face off", but then again, we only heard 30 seconds of each song! yeah, that's it, we've only heard 30 seconds of each song......., i'm trying to feel optimistic about it!

Well, I'd say Gematria and All Hope Is Gone sound like Slipknot circa the self-titled album, but everything else sounds like Stone Sour to me. Nice to hear Corey growling like he used to, but the rest of it sounds like the same tortured, emotional sap I hear from his so-called side-project.

I mean, Vermillion Pt. 2 wasn't bad, but some of this stuff sounds downright ballad-y. I know Corey said he wasn't going to hide the fact that he could sing anymore, but I don't know that he should that element dominate the album of a group that gained its notoriety in balls-to-the-wall screams of agony.

Of course, these are only 30-second samples, but I'm somewhat disappointed by what I've heard so far, and I'm hoping there's more to it than that.

Say what you want about those 30 second clips but i find that sometimes i need some " a little slower paced" songs. I mean Corey is allowed to sing however he wants. Hell he sorta used rap in "No Life." Didn't see anyone complaining with that. He does a fine job singing and believe it or not the song Snuff sounds really good. With all the faced paced stuff they do u sometimes cant realize the talent they have to make nice songs one and a while. At least this album can bring other people who don't like heavy shit to listen to a couple of their slow melodic songs (which are still fucking amazing). Each album is different and i don't understand why people can't realize it. Its like this.... People change over the course of a couple years, i don't know how you're supposed to keep the same music. These guys have a great amount of creativity and with all of u badmouthing these 30 second clips, its sorta sad that you're putting down their creativity.
~Peace~ Anthony

and need to adjust your ears because 'All Hope Is Gone' sounds like their best work. '.execute.' in to 'Gematria' is perfect. For those that say it sounds like something Stone Sour should do...should have another listen to Stone Sour because Slipknot sounds NOTHING LIKE SS. I really get tired of hearing that comment. There are alot of notable tracks as with every Slipknot album, but this has more of a purpose it seems with tons more aggression and heavyness. I will be buying this, as Slipknot have never let me down. Only 3 questionable 'light' tracks...not too shabby.

Now this guy gets it! Well said, Anthony. And let me touch up on another thing. 'All Hope Is Gone' to me, is an example of just how much Slipknot has evolved. We all remember M.F.K.R. and that was all over the place. To come out with these kinds of songs now, is just a testament of how much potential they even had at that time. No one would have thought it!

Stone Sour? Apparently I'm being linked to the wrong page because I hear NOTHING that resembles SS in those samples...apart from Taylor's melodic vocals obviously, being in the same effing band and all...

Personally, I can't wait for this album. Vol.3 remains one of my all time faves, despite a few initial concerns with some of the tracks, and AHIG is sounding like a damn good successor, judging by those samples. Different, yes, and with a few tracks that'll probably have to grow on me, much like Psychosocial had to, but I was expecting another shift in direction along with some 'growers', and I applaud them for having the balls to tread new ground rather than just playing it safe.

like most of you, i wasn't impressed with this new stuff on the first listen. but i realize now that i have to stop comparing it to their old stuff and take it for what it is.

so i re-listened to the samples and tried to image them as a new band i'd never heard of. i started to appreciate it a lot more.

if slipknot changes their sound for the new album the crybabies on blubbermouth pitch a fit. if they had stayed exactly the same, the crybabies on blubbermouth would pitch a fit.
if they broke up the crybabies on blubbermouth would bitch. when they got back together the whining sissies on blubbermouth bitched.
this is why bands don't really give a shit about posters on sites like this one. all you do is bitch and moan and masturbate over your own "clever" one-liners and disses, and most of you just download the albums instead of buying them anyway.
every band should have the attitude that Hetfield showed in that article posted a few days ago; write the albums for themselves, not the fans. because sites like blubbermouth are the perfect proof that the fans are fucking idiots.

These guys kick fuckin ass, and to me sound better and more refined with each cd.... The mix in vocals keeps things interesting. I like "underground" shit as much as anyone, but the attitude of "if more than 4 people like my band, they sold out and suck" is fucking retarded. Metalheads as a whole these days are some closed-minded fools IMO.......

"We have made the presence obsolete"

Yeah your presence in music is nothing. The preview is boring and with sounds of SS , but Im pretty sure that kiddies from 8 to 15 will say THIS IS SO METAL YAY."

Their presence in music is nothing.... hmmm tell that to their record company as their cd flies off the shelves (they are one of the top selling artists in this genre incase you weren't aware) I am 30 years old and listen to everything from Black Sabbath to Krisiun and I think this cd is going to be awesome.... take that as you will

Tired. Worn out. their day is done.

Corey your band is dead. You killed them.

For those members with actual talent, I would suggest leaving the clowns and the dj behind, and finding a real band.

1st off your absolutely right thats how it should have sounded lol. 2 I used to be a slipknot fan when I was in high school. then Vol. 3 came out and I was like wow this sounds like Stone Sour. after that I lost interest in them, and these samples sound like something stone sour would do. the lyrics sound angry and whining yet they have no balls. its kinda sad.

COMMENT | Evolution my ass.

This is not a mix between Iowa and Vol. 3; this sounds more like a mix between Vol. 3 and Stone Sour. A song like Snuff would probably have fitted Stone Sour's latest album perfectly. Not just because of Corey's vocals, but also because it's a fucking ballad. People who say that it doesn't sound anything like Stone Sour are either fanboys in denial or need to have their ears cleaned out. Seriously. From what I've heard from these samples, most songs tend to be slower than usual and lack this over-the-top crazy ass aggressiveness that has made this band huge. I really don't see how this album is going to rip my face off. Sure, some songs like Gematria and All Hope Is Gone sound more than decent. But this whole evolution theory is just some smooth bullshit talk to justify these commercial moves. If they go on like this Slipknot will definitely make their presence obsolete, because they will just end up sounding more and more like Stone Sour. And I fucking love Stone Sour, but for Slipknot to get all fucking mellow like this, it's just not right. Oh well, it's kind of likely that this will be the last Slipknot album anyway since Corey and Jim have pointed out that they like Stone Sour better. Of course, with this last album Slipknot will probably want to cash-in big time just once more before they call it a day. As a fan I'll buy this new album and visit as many Slipknot shows as I can before this thing is over, but it's obvious that the real sickness is pretty much over...
