LENNY KRAVITZ Rumored To Be Rehearsing With VELVET REVOLVER
- Aug. 12, 2008
|
|
According to the UK's The Sun, Lenny Kravitz is the latest rocker to be rumored for the singer position in VELVET REVOLVER. Kravitz has supposedly been "spotted" in the studio with the band although there is virtually no evidence to suggest that he has been officially chosen to replace Scott Weiland, who left VELVET REVOLVER in April. A source told The Sun: " VELVET REVOLVER's new album will draw heavily on their messy split with Scott. The band wanted a big name who could easily hold his own and reckon Lenny is just the man for the job." VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan told Billboard.com last week that the band has not decided on a new lead singer yet, and reports that former SPACEHOG vocalist Royston Langdon had all but nailed the job are premature. McKagan confirmed that the group did audition Langdon, saying he's "fucking awesome," but adding that "at this point I'd have to say no" to Langdon getting the gig. McKagan explained, "We just have to make sure it's the right guy. Karmically, we deserve the right guy. It's a tough thing, man. We make a pretty big noise." McKagan also said that Scott Weiland's angry public comments in the wake of his dismissal from the group last April has brought the remaining members of the band — McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum, and guitarists Slash and Dave Kushner — closer together. Even without a singer in place, VELVET REVOLVER is working on material for its third studio album, with McKagan revealing, "We have a bunch of stuff finished. It's great. It's killer. We started getting really productive when a ton of drama started happening on the road. It was like our safe place to go to. Sometimes that's how you get some feelings out."

I'm not a big fan but a hack is not something that I would call Lenny. That being said, him possibly with Velvet Revolver does surprise me. I can't see him pulling off the past material but I probably wouldn't care if I heard the "old stuff" anyway.

lol - so you're checking out Lenny's package, it's a bigger bulge than yours, so you turn into a 12 yr old name-caller?? i'm sure he gets all those hot babes he's had cuz' he "stuffs" his crotch, right? --- UK's "The Sun" paper is like the NY Post or the Enquirer, so take it for what its' worth.

I guess it would be a step down for Mr. Kravitz. He has a lot of recognition on his solo carrer, and large too. He just doesn't need to join VR, and BTW, I'm not a fan of his. I guess he's a poser who has seen better times on his carrer, although he has created some good riffs, in his line of course. The thing here is IMO: Is VR going to get heavier, more like Contraband, or like a modern Journey like Libertad? I guess they don't want to get heavier, instead the more mainstream the better. Look at Slash or McKagan or Sorum: Aren't they posers too? Clothing lines, cocktails parties, etc. Maybe Slash not as much as the other 2, but also he can sell himself for a buck too playing guitar as a "special guest" for Marta Sanchez (???) or Paulina Rubio (?????); give me a break!!! I wouldn't hold my breath....

Are you going to go my way is a killer song, and he can nail the bluesy rock vibe VR had on Libertad and the dude is pretty good friends from what i remember of Slash' autobiography. The question is what would Dave Kushner do? Talk about a redundant when you have Slash and Kravitz in the band...

He and Slash have been great friends for years.
I'm not sure why people call Lenny a "poser". What is he posing as? That's the lamest fucking term I've ever heard, it's over used.
Anyway, I'll be interested to see how this project turns out it it's true.

If I recall correctly I think Lenny and Slash both went to High School together, Beverly Hills High or something . And have been friends since. I think Lenny would be cool with VR, but I'd be surprised to see him join a band, rather than have his own considering his solo success, but ya never know. What it could be though, is maybe he's just collaborating with Slash for Slash's solo cd, in which he's using different singers for all the songs ( like Iommi, Santana, etc ). But yeah, I think Lenny would be cool with them, but I'm still hoping for Corabi : )

great choice. Yes Lenny has gotten more pop/commerical in last 10 years, but he's a great musician, funky, can rock, & the bands influence will get him back to basics. great voice. He'll funk up the other guys a bit more too. I think he wouldn't do this maybe 5 years ago, but his last 2 albums tanked(he has one out now & its going unnoticed). He'll bring attention to the band as well...I don't think they'll care about the past material.

I don't know if its beneath Lenny, but I agree, i don't see him sticking around more than a couple albums. Its probably more hard rock than he'd like, and less control, but maybe they'll be influenced by him. The r&b side of lenny. Kushner can't like this. Lenny's a better player than him, he'll be reduced to running out for pizzas....band might be more horn oriented, less "slither" like.

Just kidding....Kravitz is a good musician. He'd be a good fit on all levels really....better singer than Weiland and would satisfy the record company execs without butchering the material for the fans.

Lenny Kravitz has no credibility when it comes to rock and roll and heavy music in general. He is like one man boy band selling records and tickets to girls except he can actually play and write music. However his music is basically pop/ light rock/ everything that trendy in mainstream. Fuck this shit.

the VR name isn't as esteemed as GnR. Change the name then, its a cool band regardless. They'll probably not do many of the Weiland songs anyhow. Slither & others don't seem very Lenny to me. Nor does GnR stuff. They'll probably jam more too with Lenny, it'll be more "organic".

not to mention Bach is a hack. There's no creative juices going on there. He's a one trick pony, metal singer. Lenny gets the poser thing cuz he takes his shirt off, girls like him, but he backs it up musically, or did. He did go a bit too pop for my liking in this decade, but previously, his first 3-4 albums are great. Lenny played on Duff's solo CD in the 90's as well, good song.

I think they will bring out the best in each, where I don't think Weiland did, & that's not a dig on him. Scott's great(when sober), but I think he tends to want to be more eccletic, which is cool, but it waters Slash down, and vise versa. Theres lots of guitars in VR, but its more modern sounding, except for the solos. Slash needs to stretch out more. Doesn't have to be straight up like Snakepit(which I loved), but Lenny's a good compromise. Modern, yet with the old school rocker thing....Bach just blows, he's a minor league has been.
