SERJ TANKIAN: 'We Haven't Decided If The Future Contains SYSTEM OF A DOWN Or Not'

SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian tells RollingStone.com that there are currently no plans for him to reunite with his SOAD bandmates and work on new music. Tankian, who released his solo debut, "Elect the Dead", last October, says the timing just made sense to take an indefinite breather. "You shouldn't have to wait until people are not buying your records or your tickets for you to stop, I think that's ridiculous," he tells RollingStone.com. "So I think you should do it when it's the right time, when it makes sense artistically and personally. It's a hiatus, we're all friends, the door's open. We haven't decided what the future contains, whether it contains SYSTEM or not, and that's fine." Regarding his plans for the follow-up to "Elect the Dead", he says, "I'm structuring the next record kind of like a jazz orchestral. I've got a full orchestra interested, so I want this giant electric guitar in the air to be played by a full orchestra. I want the orchestra to be the electric guitar. I want to make an orchestra do what it's never done before, like a GG Allin type orchestra. Think of that."

to say Scars on Broadway > SOAD is like saying Audioslave > RATM. I guess it's up to individual's taste, but SOAD will be nice.
I will still be spinning my SOAD, Toxicity, and Steal This Album! while waiting for some cool new SOAD to come out.
A well-made DVD would be nice too.

Great News!!
I just picked up the Scars on Broadway CD and I can't get the songs out my head. I love it!! It's great from start to finish. It sounds like a great mix of SOAD and old punk bands like the Dead Kennedy's. Scars is just a punked up SOAD.
I hope Daron and John tell Serj to go fuck himself and just continue Scars!! They definately don't need Serj.

Scars on Broadway's album proved that Daron Malakian is SOAD's writing driving force. I must admit that, although I find his voice pretty annoying. Serj Tankian's voice is SOAD's. Daron's voice should remain present, but less than on the last two albums.
They did their solo stuff, to satisfy their egos, now they should get back together, when they belong.
Serj Tankian's solo stuff is not impressive. This jazz thing will not get much attention from SOAD fans.

They say they are going on break to do projects.......but then they never get back together.

SOB are like a punkier version of SOAD, they're a good band.

Reading through this stack of comments, it seems like you're not the only one who likes SOB. Maybe I'll check out the album when I have the chance :)
However, some of these other people dissing Serj by using SOB is fucking annoying. :( I'm no fan of Serj's solo stuff but man, he works great as a quarter of SOAD...

There was this one episode of "You Can't Do That On Television" from back in the day that I could remember where the mother punishes her 2 kids by forcing them to watch the Iranian Symphony Orchestra perform on public access TV - which included the band members removing the saliva from their instruments (thankfully the censors cut that segment out of the scene altogether as it came across as somewhat racist and disjointed).
For some reason the GG Allin type orchestra comment brought me back to that particular episode of "You Can't Do That On Television" even moreso than any song by Alanis Morrissette.
