AC/DC: First 'Review' Of 'Black Ice' Available
- Aug. 15, 2008
|
|
Rolling Stone has posted a short "review" of the new AC/DC album "Black Ice", which the magazine apparently heard during a listening session the Sony headquarters on New York's Madison Avenue. According to the Rolling Stone, the 15-song CD, which was recorded in Vancouver in just eight weeks with producer Brendan O'Brien ( PEARL JAM, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, VELVET REVOLVER), features AC/DC singer Brian Johnson wailing "about skies on fire, blood in his eyes, storms raging, lightning flashes, hard rain and pretty women. Angus Young [guitar] shreds throughout (we dig his slide work on 'Decibel'), and the rhythm cats — Malcom Young [guitar], Cliff Williams [bass] and Phil Rudd [drums] — are solid as a rock. The first single is 'Rock 'n Roll Train'; 'She Likes Rock 'n Roll' will be a stripper anthem; and 'War Machine' (our favorite) will tear you to pieces." "Black Ice" has had its release date pushed up one week, from October 28 to October 21. The record, AC/DC's first in eight years, will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart. "Rock 'n Roll Train" will arrive at radio stations August 28. A source at Harddrive Radio described it as "smoking hot. It's AC/DC like we love them, loud, anthemic and hard!" "Black Ice" is AC/DC's first new studio effort since 2000's "Stiff Upper Lip". The legendary rockers are slated to begin an 18-month world tour in October, with the trek reportedly kicking off on around Halloween in Chicago. The 1977 AC/DC song "Let There Be Rock" will be featured in the new Rock Band 2 video game, due out in September. This will mark the band's first and so far only contribution to a video game soundtrack.

and Rolling Stone will write a full review after it's out that trashes it, making it clear what this mini-review really is - marketing.
they get paid to write favorable stuff about material not even close to being released.
this could be good, i have no idea, but this review is just a published PR 1-sheet.

Because they've always given short shrift to anything metal.
Plus, I thought that shitty rag generally gives good reviews to any group or artist considered classic or venerable. Like they don't even listen to the songs, they just say "Oh, a new Bruce Springsteen album? No, no. Don't put it on. We don't have to. Let's see...9/10"
Fuck Rolling Stone and the people who like it.

This is not official "news". it's bullshit. the album is NOT called black ice, the song is not rock n roll train, its runaway train. Posted this on their website today, only to have it removed.

I'm sorry but that is total shit. Totally un-rock n roll.
Way to stick it to all the struggling actual record stores that might have sold some copies of this record.

this album will be great fun, like all (or most...) AC/DC albums. But in all honesty, why are AC/DC and Ozzy obsessed with putting "rock n' roll" in every song. The new track-list will look like this...
Black Ice: 1-Rock n' Roll Train 2-No Shirt, No Shoes...Rock n' Roll! 3-Rock n' Roll Stripper 4-She Likes Rock n' Roll 5-Rock n' Roll Rebel 6-God Spoke, and Said Rock n' Roll 7-Rock Till' You're Dead 8-Wal Mart is Rock n' Roll 9-To the Top of Mountain Rock n' Roll 10-Decibel 11-We Have to Rock, Because the Last Song Didn't Have Rock n' Roll in the Title 12-Rock n' Roll Masturbation 13-For the Love of Rock 14-Rock Your Motherfucking Socks Off 15-War Machine

...your comments were spot-on. And the man behind the toilet paper so many read is Jann Wenner, who posits himself as some left-thinking anti-establishment type, but is actually the biggest tool in the Western Hemisphere. My understanding is, this ass-clown gets to decide who gets in the RnR Hall of Fame. I would like to say I don't give a sh*t about that, but I mean...Madonna????????? WTF....

sounds like it's got more edge than the last, my least favourite AC/DC album in a long time.
15 songs? normally i think anything over 12 is too much but maybe with the long layoff, they'll all be solid.
fingers crossed: this sounds good (i'm a longtime fan since 1979).
cheers.
nl: Accept, Objection Overruled: better than i initially thought years ago.

If Rolling Stone likes it, it's one-dimensional, talentless crap that could have been made by thirteen-year-olds learning their first instruments.

Long way to the top if you wanna be on blabbermouth? HAHA - funny! But, anyone can have an item on blabbermouth. I have been on here a few times, but it's not always a good thing because EVERYONE gets bashed on the mouth. From Slayer to AC/DC. I am actually excited to hear some new AC/DC and see 'em for perhaps the last time on this tour! KICKIN' off in CHICAGO!! WOO_HOO!

Everyone says all AC/DC albums are the same, but I disagree. Some are great, some inconsistent and some suck. This one sucks like Stiff Upper Lip and Ballbreaker (except the title track which rules.) The cleverness of the Bon years is gone. Problems: he word rock should never appear so many times on an album, higher and fire should no longer be used as rhymes, nor should brain and sane. Stop it. The album should be trimmed down. Also, too long!!! With ADHD so prevelant in our society, why do bands keep making albums longer (pay attenition Rush.) These guys need to Inject the Venom. Listening to this album is laborious at best. The hooks are so predictable, i feel impatient for them to be over. Come on guys, put the finger on us. However, Brian's vocals are the best since the holy trinity of the post-Bon era - Back in Black, For Those About to Rock and Flick of the Switch. (Yes I know he still has the pipes on Fly on the Wall, but the production ruins it on that record.) But the Brian Johnson come is squandered. Where are the riffs and why are the lyrics so Vanilla? Also a quick note to Rolling Stone and 99% of the other reviewers: Stop telling me that AC/DC fans will love it and it's more of the same. It is no High Voltage, and it is no Jailbreak. Anyone who says it's the best effort since Back in Black is a paid ass-kiss that has never had a drunken night of fucking with Girls Got Rythym in the background.
