NINE INCH NAILS frontman Trent Reznor has revealed to the Los Angeles Times that the band's 2007 conceptual album, "Year Zero", could possibly become a series for HBO. Reznor told the paper, "I just pitched it to HBO two weeks ago in L.A. It went great. Ideally, we're trying to get them to do a two-year limited series. I prefer that over a film. We would have a second ARG (alternate reality game) tying into the second album and ties into the series and they all happen together."
Reznor admitted he'd love to see "Year Zero" translated to the screen, saying, "It's the most exciting thing on the horizon. It's the thing that when I wake up in the morning it makes me say, 'God it would be cool if that happened.'This is my grand ambition."
"Year Zero" is set approximately 15 years in the future, with the U.S. run by a right-wing religious dictatorship and the world on the verge of environmental and economic collapse.
The album was promoted by an alternate reality game that featured clues spread across multiple web sites, music planted in venues where NIN had played and cryptic phone messages.
NINE INCH NAILS is currently touring behind the band's latest album, "The Slip", which is available as both a free download and a paid physical CD.

I've seen these guys over the years...Just saw them two days ago as a matter of fact, and they put on a great show. More important, they offer a true alternative to the same tired guitar driven sound that very few can pull off with any originality.
The thing that they do that is brilliant: THE STAGE SHOW. Their use of LEDs and screens, multiple levels of lights coursing over the stage, digital fire and rain in front and behind the band...FUCKING AMAZING. Rivals Floyd without a doubt. (youtube gives an idea, but you have to see it for yourself...)
I admire Trent for giving back to the fans with a great concert experience. So many other bands take the proceeds only to deliver cheap light shows and projection graphics. NIN have continued to evolve since the 90's, and even though I don't listen to them on any regular basis (though the music is good), I will not miss these guys when they come around.

Yeah maybe you have no idea what an LED display is.
Lasers have been around for years, nothing special there, unless Gilmore is ripping on the stage underneath it.
Read more, learn more, spout ignorance less. And if I were you, I'd avoid those Smashing Pumpkins shows. JMO, Dick.

I've only owned Downward Spiral. I listened to it for a while when it came out, and thats about it, so I'm not really what you would call a fan. I respect Trent's integrity, his business model, his vision.
And I dig new experiences. No one out there is doing this sort of stage show, and it's worth seeing. Go to the show without a ticket, and pick one up in the parking lot for less than face value. It's worth the money.
And for the record, songs like Reptile, Wish, and March of Pigs are heavy as fuck live. Heavier than many of the bands featured here. Pumpkins don't even compare. Neither do Slipknod, Disturbing, Etc..Etc...Plus there's no rapping, no scratching DJ, no little kids in hottopic gear...
