RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Guitarist Previews Convention Shows - Aug. 18, 2008
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE recently announced plans to perform during both the Democratic and Republican Conventions. The group will first play a free show August 27 at the Denver Coliseum in conjunction with the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) and Tent State University. Guitarist Tom Morello told The Pulse of Radio why RAGE has aligned itself with the veterans'organization. "They have something that neither George W. Bush nor I have — that is, that they've served under fire," he said. "So I think that their tales from the frontlines and the things that they've seen and been involved in and their perspective on the war is a very important one, that it's very important for the Democrats to know, because the Democratic Congress was elected two years ago to end the war, and completely failed."

RAGE will then visit Minneapolis to play a gig on September 3 — the same week the Republican National Convention takes place in nearby St. Paul. Morello outlined RAGE's agenda for that week. "At the RNC, we're gonna give 'em hell," he said. "We're there to support the protesters and to be among them, and let our voices be known that these crimes shall not stand, and while the world spotlight is on St. Paul and Minneapolis, we're gonna be there too. We're gonna be on the side of the barbed wire fence with the rest of America that's being kept out."

Other acts performing directly as part of the Democratic convention on August 26 are DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, DAUGHTRY, EVERCLEAR and FLOBOTS.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's most recent North American performance was at Lollapalooza earlier this month. The group has several European festival shows on its schedule for later in August. No other U.S. shows have been confirmed beyond the convention-related gigs.

Tom Morello will issue a new solo set as THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, called "The Fabled City", on September 30.

is what this country is in right now because of this failed goverment. this country is almost SOLD-OUT! and it's time TO TAKE THE POWER BACK! And for all the rage haters you are the ones who don't understand and to chicken shit to fight for what you believe in. and dont understand the concept and power of the music they bring to us as a nation. i know some people have different taste of music but dont talk shit about a band who actually stands up to the hypocrisy and destruction this goverment creates. if you love america you will vote to seek a new way of american life. as well as the rest of the world.

Obama went to Harvard. He is a bit more articulate than you give him credit for. Judging by your remarks, you may want to educate yourself on the issues rather than buy in to the bullshit your being sold by the media.

we're chicking because we don't listen to Rage? Just want to make sure I read that right. You're truly an idiot who doesn't understand what you're talking about, and your statement is so flawed I don't know where to start. Clearly you like Rage and seem to think that anybody who doesn't clearly also doesn't have enough intelligence to think for thesemlves. Your opinion is essentially the type Rage is against since forcing people to like Rage won't do diddly shit to educate them on the problems facing America. It takes more than liking music and thinking you know what's going on for you to be a rebellous and informed politically thinking individual you jack ass.

your listening to the wrong sources. Don't expect to get news where you get your entertainment.

And your summary assessment of his speaking ability is pretty fuckin' weak. Let's see you stand before a crowd of billions world-wide (through the press) and say anything intelligent. you can't even sound intelligent when you speak anonymously on this fucking board.

"Obama is very articulate... when there's a telle-prompter present in front of him. Besides that all he can get out half the time is "ummm, uhhhh, *pauses for 30 seconds* and uh, ummmm... yeah hope and change!"

So true. When I was in student government at my very average state university, I knew dozens of other students who could speak more articulately on current events than Obama does. This is the most overhyped candidacy in the history of American politics.

Thats the only way to judge for yourself.

Best way is to get it from everywhere, develop an INFORMED OPINION, and then use your common sense to get through the BS.

I guess in your case, its easier to pull opinions out of thin air, informed by your own preconceptions and prejudices.

Thats all fine and good, just realize it has its limits. Like the fact that it limits you to resorting to rhetoric and generally uninformed opinions, opinions that are as transparent as those you condemn in the media.

You do realize that EVERY political speech is conducted in the same tele-prompter fashion. Pre-screened questions are also not specific to Obama, either...It's not like he's inventing ways to be fake, he's just following established norms for political campaigns.

I've always kinda dug Rage, nearly in spite of their politics. I agree with questioning your government, but being an out and out communist, while being withing their rights, is not something I agree with. I do appreciate them working with the Veteran's Group, though...

wow that is such a backwards way of thinking. You say we need to take the power back, yet you side with RATM, who are, in fact, devout socialists. That, in contrary, takes what little power we have left, and places it right into the hands of the government. What this country really needs is a true conservative revolution. Limited government, lower taxes, and free markets are what this country truly needs, not an increasingly intrusive libral government. Trust me i live in Chicago and the wasteful spending, 11% sales tax, and endless corruption that is the City, County, and State governments is just a small taste of what will become the rest of the country under an Obama presidency.

Liberals have shown a propensity to shackle everyman to the plight of those who would not or could not do for themselves; but as we have seen conservative government, with its eye toward the bottom line, conservatives have been easily corrupted by the big business lobby.

How about having an honest government who can act in the best interests of the public on any given issue?

Yup thats why bush is still in office and you and everyone else is looking for any means to get by in todays world. This country is getting poorer. So you keep voting for the Bush Admin. And McCain is only reassuring us that he will continue to spend billions of dollars on this so-called war. While we succumb to the misery of having to depend on pennies once again.

oooh fake angst rap rock and outrage over an election, how original.

"Chicago and the wasteful spending, 11% sales tax, and endless corruption that is the City, County, and State governments"

chicago may be the most filthy corrupt city in the usa but the folks here love their $75 vehicle stickers, manicured medians, bottled water tax and stupid silver kidneybean that sawed off runt mayor napoleon made em pay for. did i mention bulldozing meigs field in the middle of the night for "saftey reasons" and to create a "park" which actually is a corporate sponsored concert venue? how bout throwing out bensenville residents so that mayor runt can get his buddies construction contracts to expand O'hare for the almighty fucking financial disaster olympics. no shocker this band played lollapalooza here recently, theyre right at home.
