METALLICA: New Audio Sample Available

A short audio sample of a new METALLICA song has been posted on the group's official web site: Windows Media, Real Media. METALLICA has officially set Friday, September 12 as the "worldwide" release date for its new album, "Death Magnetic". The CD will be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on the same day the album arrives in stores. The band is offering the record for sale in numerous configurations, ranging from a digital-only release to a deluxe "coffin box" that will come with a bonus CD, a DVD, a T-shirt, guitar picks and other goodies. That sounds good... It's just a minor sample but I like what I hear so far along with 'Cyanide'. Who cares if it's not 'Puppets'; 'Puppets' has been done and will always be a classic. I want this album to stand on its own merits. Bring it on!

I don't really as a "fan boy" (which seems to be a blanket term given to people who say anything remotely positive) given that I haven't purchased a metallica record in about 10 years. That said, I haven't been expecting much, but that clip far exceeded my expectations. It sounds very, very promising.
I'm guessing by your screen name you are a cradle of filth fan, which negates your opinion on music in any way.

sounds like classic metallica to me , if you consider st anger and load in your mouth classic metallica!
cliff burton was metallica ,
this pop metal band that started in the early 90's . should have really changed thier name to something more fitting to the style of music they play.

I'm with everybody. (Despite the grainy guitar tone) I hope the entire album sounds like this clip, but the reality is that it wont. metallicas whole angle on this album is to showcase their entire career and that includes load and st. anger. Every song is probably going to have parts reminiscent of the good and the bad. Look at Cyanide. its a perfect example.

I love how someone is comparing Metallica to Trivium. Wow. Smart. Trivium is everything that is WRONG in metal today!! EMO haircuts, chick clothes, and stupid looking guitars with riffs that are straight out of something a teenager would write. not to mention the most lame attempt at soloing (look at me, I can do a sweep arpeggio that makes absolutely no sense in phrase!)I've ever seen. Now granted, Metallica is not the gold standard anymore, but I'd much rather listen to something solid (everything they've written aside of Stanger has been solid, even though Load and Re-Load is lame in terms of what they used to sound like) than something that is forced and fake--Trivium.

AGAIN......I am very impressed with what I am hearing, if it retains this standard Metallica will bestow upon our ears a nice golden nugget of audio delight.
As Heavy Metals overall personality represents a overwhelming dislike for pigeon holing, anyone who points fingers & segregates with immature naming misses the point it addresses.

that did sound good indeed. problem is I think is that it will be mixed in with a half a dozen other riffs in the same song and lose its punch alltogether.

Is that 2+ tracks of James, or is Kirk actually in there? If they're going for the "classic" sound, than Kirk should stay on the bench during the recording of the rhythm guitars, like he used to.
...Or maybe he's stepped it up. Anybody remember the "Tough Riff" bonus scene from SKOM?

It's kzdamjak from PPM. Most of the cocksuckin' haters are really closet fans who try to sound TROO by bashing Metallica which has become a sport for Underground metal wannabees who don't even listen to the bands who's T-shirts they wear. And when their TROO Metal friends aren't around, they pull Load and Reload out from under their beds, put the headphones on, and listen to the band they really are a fuckin' fan of. It takes more nuts to be a Metallica fan than it does to be a wannabe fan of Vomitory or Vital Remains. You watch how many copies of Death Magnetic are sold. And the people buying them aren't just "fanboys" and teenage girls. There will be many, many, TROO Metal underground posers in those numbers.

Lars' drumming has never been a thing of beauty, most Metallica fans will even admit it. Even in the old days, Lars' beats were pretty simple rhythm beats, nothing dramatic, he's always just sort of let James and Kirk lead the sound. The ...And Justice for All album is probably the most technical we will ever hear from Lars. As long as the drum sound on the new album is closer to the Black album I'm happy.
