METALLICA's HETFIELD Talks To 17-Year-Old Dutch Girl About Songwriting; Video Available

A four-minute video clip of a 17-year-old Dutch girl named Cissie talking to METALLICA frontman James Hetfield about songwriting during a meet-and-greet session on August 15, 2008 prior to the band's performance at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium can be viewed below. Cissie — who has been playing guitar since 2005 — says, "I have always been very curious of James' songwriting process and I'm very happy he gave a good answer and took some time for it! And hahah, I'm sorry for being a bit stupid; I was really nervous and it was quite hard to form sentences with the Mighty Het standing right in front of you! It was definitely one of the best days of my life!" METALLICA has officially set Friday, September 12 as the "worldwide" release date for its new album, "Death Magnetic". The CD will be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on the same day the album arrives in stores. The band is offering the record for sale in numerous configurations, ranging from a digital-only release to a deluxe "coffin box" that will come with a bonus CD, a DVD, a T-shirt, guitar picks and other goodies. Hetfield always comes off like the coolest dude you'd know. I like how he treats this kid like he was her long lost big brother or cool uncle. I also like when she says how psyched she was that they played "Bleeding Me." I bet that threw him too. Hell, for a kid that age, "Bleeding Me" might have been the first Metallica song she ever heard. (I think "Orion" might have been mine. I had a headbanger aunt in the house when I was a little kid in the '80s)
Hell, those meat and potatoes rock albums are actually pretty damn good. (yeah, Load and Re-Load) They aged real real well. The guitar sounds on those albums are great. But Death Magnetic is shaping up to be the album of the fucking year, based on "Cyanide" and those leaked riffs they've let out...

What a top bloke. It's always cool when you meet one of your heroes and they turn out to be nice people. She's right about Bleeding Me, fucking right song.
Was talking to Obituary the night after the Wacken Festival in a bar in Hamburg. Really down to earth people who are just music fans like the rest of us. Later on bumped into Jeff Walker from Carcass. Same again, top bloke.
