Ex-VAN HALEN Bassist MICHAEL ANTHONY Schedules Signing Session In Huntington Beach - Aug. 21, 2008
Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony will sign autographs at The Rock and Roll Emporium (205 Main Street) in downtown Huntington Beach, California on Friday, August 22 at 5:00 p.m.

Best know for his work as a founding member with VAN HALEN, Michael Anthony is currently promoting his newest projects including his line of tasty extra-hot sauces, collectible miniature replicas of his signature basses and his latest musical super group CHICKENFOOT. Additionally, Michael has created a collection of miniature replica guitars of his six most famous basses. The Jack Daniel's bass, the W.D.F.A. Bass, the Yamaha BB2000 "Battle Axe," the Tabasco Bass, the Yamaha Flame Bass and the Yamaha BB3000MA Signature Series Bass have all been painstakingly recreated in 1:4 scale and exclusively available from the Mad Anthony Online Store and The Rock and Roll Emporium.

Lastly, Michael's award-winning original sauces have been a favorite at The Rock and Roll Emporium for the past year. Made from Michael's own personal recipes, these gourmet sauces are both highly collectible and very spicy.

To meet Michael Anthony and get an autograph, you must have a ticket. Tickets will be available at The Rock and Roll Emporium starting Tuesday August 19 at 5:00 p.m. Your ticket is free with your purchase of one of Michael's signature hot sauces and replica mini-bases.

Look how these Van Halen brothers treat one of their own, now forced to sell toys and food condiments. They should be ashamed.

What did he ever do to them?

VH Bros are cranks. Bitter men. Eddie seemed so happy go lucky in his prime, maybe he was & years of abuse soured him. Every interview he's so defensive, he puts Anthony down, & calls him "Solvoleski" now(his real name), saying "he shouldn't have sold his hot sauce at VH shows, it used us". Please....he stayed friends with Sammy & that sealed his deal.

Michael isn't doing this for the money; he wouldn't have to work another day in his life if he didn't want to. Unlike most musicians, Mike was smart and invested his money. He is the highest individual share holder in the Disney Corporation. Eddie and Alex wish they had those kind of bucks. Mike does this stuff for fun and for charity, nothing more.

......regardless of cash or no cash, Eddie and Alex still should be ashamed of what they did to Mike. I think to most fans it is obvious. Eddie wanted control of the band, including Mike. Mike is friends with Sammy, Eddie doesn't like that, so let's get rid of Mike. Mike is not a Van Halen, so if we get Dave or Sammy back in the band, it could go 50/50 on band decisions.....let's remove Mike and replace him with a 16 year old fatty with the Van Halen name........all power shifts to Ed; it is HIS band now. Too bad that Mike got in the way of Eddies overblown ego.

that's right....and I'm sure Mike's doing fine, well as you mentioned he is, but I'm sure it was a bummer to be left out, he still has nothing but good things to say about Ed, I'm sure he never caused trouble & really enjoyed the VH legacy, but I think it was simply staying friends with Sammy, which at first he didn't. Eddie blames it on other issues, cuz if he said the truth it would be known how petty he is....but it is known. I heard him on Howard Stern, & he was nasty to Mike, was full of excuses, and lies.

COMMENT | Look at the entire situation.

Eddie had been training Wolfie since he was a baby to play music. Don't you think its likely that he just wanted an excuse to drop the hammer on mike, just to create a vacancy for his son?

In interviews since, hes thrilled to be playing with his son, and I think hes also thrilled about VH being a family venture for the most part. Now I bet he just wishes his cousin could howl like DLR, and he could complete the job.

I don't really understand why people get all wrapped up in the personal side of this. People get fired from jobs every day. Why should a band be any different? Sure, you have a history, years on the road, but at the end of the day it's a hard job. If he signed all of his rights away, then he made a bad business decision for the sake of a tour in '04, and actually set the wheels in motion for his own dismissal.

Are the guys in VH a-holes? Sure they are. It's just like any big corporation, and the value of Van Halen as a company and a brand is bigger than a lot of house hold products. That's why AFTER they dismissed MA, they still had the most successful VH tour ever (money wise). DLR was the difference maker, not bass lines that a 16 year old can play.

I've had to fire many band members for many different reasons. At the end of the day everyone is trying to make some coin doing something they love. I'm sure Eddie had more fun playing with his kid than he ever has playing with MA, right, wrong or whatever. Who cares. Get over it. If you feel that bad about it buy some hot sauce or whatever crap he's selling. I would love to see the orginial line up like anyone else, but keep in mind that MA made a CHOICE to sign away his rights in '04, and the outcome of that was getting fired. Boo-hoo.

People get wrapped up in the personal side of it, cuz the band meant something in their lives, its personal to people, many don't just listen to a song & move on, they get into the bands, the personalities. To many, especially kids, they are even their heros. And its not just like an everyday job. I don't feel that bad for MA really, but I'd have like to see a full reuniion...Ed probably loves playing with his kid, but I don't think that's why he's in the band originally. Its not my choice, but as a fan, & many would agree, they like the original band. Led Zep would agree or they'd have gone on w/out Bonham. I don't think many would like to have seen Ringo, George, Paul & Don. It matters to people, much deeper level than some corporate job...maybe not the band though....I'm sure you'll think that's all "gay", but its pretty true I think.

not to mention, MA was a key component of the VH sound with his backing vocals. But you're also right, it didn't matter in tic sales, but people came to see DLR back. But many wished MA was on board. And it did seem lame the way he was axed. He was a fool too, to sign off & become a hired hand ,but that shows how much he wanted to be a part of it. So, yeah, that sort of sux.

But I agree they gave Mike the shaft. Like someone said before, Eddie used to seem like the nicest guy. I think some of these shrinks he's been seeing has filled his ego up to where he's become a class A jerk to one of the guys who helped a little unknown band from Pasadena make the big time.

You HAVE to BUY his HOT SAUCE to get a ticket and and autograph!! The money goes to the OUT OF WORK BASS PLAYERS charity!!
What the charity does is :teach bass players how to show up for WORK and be LOYAL to the BAND that made them RICH and FAMOUS for doing NOTHING!!!!!!
Michael Anthony still "THE DUMBEST MAN IN ROCK HISTORY!"

I don't think it's gay to have an emotional connection to a band, and I get that, but it's been almost two years and people can't seem to get past it. At the same time, many bands have gone on to have huge success while replacing original members, like VAN HALEN! Remember everyone's reaction when they found out it was Sammy? Or AC/DC? Many bands have replaced key members, and while MA was a part of the sound, Eddie is the key. They didn't become the biggest band in the world (at one time) because of MA's bass playing or his vocals. It was Eddie's playing and Dave's showmanship. If they had a different bass player all along, I strongly believe they would have had similar success. Eddie and Dave wrote the songs. But you do make a solid point about the emotional connection to music and bands. I hadn't thought about it in that context. Thanks for highlighting that. It's rare that I read a well thought out comment on Blabbermouth!

But if the choice is VH without MA or no VH, I'll take Van Halen without Michael Anthony.

totally agree, you can switch members, it can work. And VH would have definitely made it with any bass player early on. It was the EVH & DLR show, and the last tour absolutely didn't hinge on MA, just a "nice to have"....changing members is fine, especially if you have the core singer/guitarist, but after a while, it can water things down & the original band chemistry is lost. Even if those guys hate each other, (dave & ed before), they might not want to work together, but it produces good music, what ever the chemistry they have, & for the fans, thats what we want...like the new GnR, that's not GnR. But switching the drummer or something, no biggy.
