SLIPKNOT Festival Stunt Gets Fans Booing
- Aug. 23, 2008
|
|
According to AngryApe, a SLIPKNOT stunt at the Leeds Festival for the band's upcoming UK tour didn't go down well with music fans at the weekend event. While DROPKICK MURPHYS were playing their afternoon slot yesterday (August 22), a plan flew over the stage dangling a banner with " SLIPKNOT UK tour tickets on sale." The crowd, clearly not happy that the masked rockers had pulled out of the festival, began to boo at the banner advert. The DROPKICKS themselves could be heard saying, "It's rubbing salt into the wounds." SLIPKNOT was forced to cancel several European festival appearances as well as performances for MTV Europe and Virgin TV after drummer Joey Jordison broke his ankle. According to a statement issued by the band, doctors have advised Jordison to stay off the ankle for four to six weeks to prevent "further injury or permanent and more serious damage." SLIPKNOT expressed its "huge regret and disappointment," adding, "Canceling shows is never an easy decision and we apologize to all our fans, friends and family for not being there to throw down with you. We will be back in Europe this November and can't wait to see you all then." SLIPKNOT rarely cancels gigs and has even done tours with members missing due to injuries. Singer Corey Taylor told The Pulse of Radio that the band always tries to find a way to make the show go on. "I'm very proud of the fact that I've only canceled four shows in my entire career, and it was only because I was just physically unable to do it," he said. "If you're able to do it, at least get up there, you know. At least do your best. I mean, the fans appreciate that beyond anything else. I think that's why we're still here, because we've never let that stuff stop us." SLIPKNOT's new album, "All Hope Is Gone", arrives next Tuesday (August 26).

Love 'em or hate 'em, you do have to respect Slipknot's work ethic. Considering the sheer insanity in their shows, I'm surprised they haven't had to cancel more shows.

The promotions and marketing reps are responsible for this, not the musiscians. Those who believe the band is responsible should be booted out of Blabbermouth for total ignorance.
Living in Iowa and knowing these guys for 15 years, they have a very strong work ethic. Practice, rehearse, write, etc. I don't know of other bands who put this kind of time into their craft. They've had to work twice as hard to get 'noticed' living here in the midwest, as do bands who move to LA or NYC to get a deal.
I've heard the CD. Awesome. The Killing Name is exhausting to listen to and it's only the first track.
Yes, I know. "Slipknot Sucks" or "Slipknot rules". No need to re-write your tired hateful postings for the 20th time.

I personally don't give a fuck what you think about the band, when was the last time you heard of them screwing over their fans? Every guy in that band has played injured, all for the sake of not screwing the people who got them where they are. But, try as you might, you just can't play drums with a busted wheel. How many other bands cancel entire tours for frivolous, bullshit reasons?

So I guess you think other bands obtain new material through osmosis? All bands do this. I saw them last month (because they came with MFH) and they were quite possibly the worst live show i've ever seen from the top to the bottom of their set.

He broke his ankle in Buffalo. My buddy's mom' friend's fiancee' was a nurse and got 10 backstage passes to speed his ass up getting to see a Dr. That was the last show they played, this past Tuesday at Darien Lake (30 minutes east of Buff)

Slipknot always has been more of a marketing excercise than a band, this is no more blatant than the mask schtick was in the first place.

The only reason I can see the need for booing is the fact that they flew a loud advertisement over the heads of a band in the middle of their set. That was kind of shitty of the PROMOTIONS department. Not SLIPKNOT's fault. I don't really care for Slipknot, but shit, I know they have a good work ethic.

YEA that's a good fuckin call man. He would be great as a fill in. As some have said before, Slipknot did not have anything to do with it. The record is gonna rock, you wish you had what Slipknot does, and that's a life in music.

---my point is that I know the time and effort SlipKnot put into their craft. No doubt other bands work hard too, I can only I comment on what I've SEEN and can't speculate on what I don't know to be true. I DO know bands that get their hands held by producers, use protools, and don't know how to read/write music. SlipKnot are well schooled musicians, all know how to play guitar, drums, and other instruments - despite your OPINION.
As far as you not liking their live show - it all comes down to taste. Some people really love energetic, interactive shows - some don't.

"Slipknot... a ward on the dick of Metal!"
Though they're in the limelight and reach out to millions of people, they still stand like sentinels on the dick of metal.
Seriously people, we are NOT the biggest community in the world. If metal can't bind people together, is it meant for every fucking individual here on this planet to go around keeping it close like it's the only thing you believe in? I get so fucking tired of people always screaming at each other on this site, it only adds to people's stupid beliefs on music, such as everybodies supposed to be marco fucking polo, discovering every band as something NO ONE ELSE HAS HEARD OF.
I don't put slipknot on my top ten, but they're still a decent band that plays music the way they want to play it, and they do it for their fans. If you don't like the musical direction they're taking, at least say it in a decent manner. I hate when people just say "THIS SUCKS!!!!111"
It's just not DESCRIPTIVE! And you give yourself away as an ignorant asshole.
Don't sell yourselves short peeps.
