JIMMY PAGE Performs LED ZEPPELLIN Classic At Olympics Closing Ceremony; Video Available

LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page played an updated version of the band's classic song "Whole Lotta Love" alongside Leona Lewis, winner of the UK reality television show "The X Factor", at the closing ceremony of the 2008 Olympics Games earlier today (Sunday, August 24) in Beijing. Watch footage of the performance below. To mark the fact that London will host the 2012 Olympics, an iconic Routemaster bus circled the stadium. Lewis, Page and soccer star David Beckham made their entrance on the vehicle. According to Telegraph, some of the lyrics to "Whole Lotta Love" had to be omitted or re-written amid concerns that they could cause offense. The song was chosen as the centrepiece of an eight-minute £2.5 million British segment at the event in Beijing at which the Olympic flag will be officially passed to the London Mayor Boris Johnson. According to London 2012 officials, Lewis — who grew up in east London close to the Olympic site — requested a change to the song's second verse because she was worried they would not make sense for a female singer. In the original, recorded in 1969, frontman Robert Plant sings, "I'm gonna give you every inch of my love". But in the version that was sung today, Lewis changed the words to "every bit" of my love.

That's great. If that's the best that London can get, a television starlet, a 65-year-old air-guitarist and a soccerer that hasn't shown a good performance since '99, then nothing can go wrong with the Olympics, haha!
Don't get me wrong, Zep are among the best bands of all times, but that performance... aahhm... not really. ;)

Just a note Ms Lewis, if you're going to change the lyrics, you might also want to change 'You need it, way down inside'. I don't think I need to spell out what that means.
It means way down inside in your vag. I bet Pagey would love to be there, with the aid of significant meds of course! I however would have NO such problems!
Seriously though that wasn't that bad. She does have a remarkable voice, even if she is a bit Whitney/Carey wannabe. Probably sang it better than Percy Plant could at this point!
She's also not been helped by much of the saccharine ballad crap the producers gave her, only one song has been decent, that 'Keep bleeding' tune.
No, it doesn't embarass me to say I like it, it's a great POP song, which is enjoyable to hear on the radio or whatever, exists on a completely separate plane to the metal and rock I listen to, and doesn't in any way reduce my credibility as a 'metalhead' or whatever; well probably with some of the goblins that live on this site!
I will add the disclaimer though that I do not own any music by Leona Lewis. Oh gods now I look like I lack the courage of my convictions!

Of course the Jimmy Page/Leona thing was a joke. It's not even worth talking about it was so ridiculous. Why did they even have the Brits do a mini show anyway? It seemed to take away from China's extravagant closing ceremonies. I was more repulsed by seeing a bunch of Suit Types get up there, wave a flag around, and shake hands. Like they have any bearing on these games. The IOC guy was okay but lose the suit and have the athletes perform the exchange. Fukin suits...

Whole Lotta Love was not written by led zeppelin it was written by Willie Dixon.He sued led zep for Plagiarism and won.
