MACHINE HEAD Drummer On Touring With METALLICA: 'We Couldn't Be More Honored' - Aug. 25, 2008
MACHINE HEAD drummer Dave McClain recently spoke to the Artisan News Service about the band's upcoming U.S. dates with METALLICA.

"Holy crap. Touring with METALLICA in January," he said. "We went through, it's pretty well documented on our DVD, 'Elegies', when we were talking about where we were as a band. There was a period where nobody wanted to really touch us. We said back then when the band went through this weird dark period, and when we came out of it one of the things we said was, 'We need to get to a point where a band like METALLICA says 'We need to take that band on tour,'' and this year that whole thing happened, man. It's surreal."

He also talked about how he'll be forever grateful for the opportunity.

"METALLICA does not need MACHINE HEAD to open up for them to bring people into the arena. They are doing us the biggest favor that anybody could ever do for a band. It puts you in front of an arena full of people that potentially you can win over. That's amazing. That speaks volumes for the dudes that they are. We couldn't be more honored. We couldn't be more... We're blown away by it."

Watch video footage of McClain talking about the upcoming shows with METALLICA at this location.

They just headlined Ozzfest... oh and every fuckin' European festival on the planet. Yeah, no one cares about them. You nailed it right on the head.

By the way, Death Magnetic won't be out for another few weeks but it is already one of the top selling albums in the US.

Fancy findin gyou on a headline with Metallica. More concert attendance figures anyone? More reference to kreator, hamsters & tick tock, tick tock!

Forget MH - what's your thoughts on the other openers, Sword, Down, & LOG - I know you gotta be a fanboy of LOG.

Actually, let's go back to Burn My Eyes by MH - fanot or not? I am going with assumption you were getting an allowance by then.

just give that one album title & I can move on. let'd end this thing lad. you know who could probably sell out a stadium right now? hannah montana - i will set you up & let you run with that. mom & dad probably took you're little sister, which left you alon at home alone with free time to punch the 'ole clown while comin gup with more user names & metallica one liners.

You are consistent; every metallica post & you are usually post 2 oe 3. Good enough for the silver or bronze Peter. Far from the troll gold standard however.

I got all day Peter; let's party. Talk some more about the new Kreator there wee bean!

Metallica should be honored to have Machine Head with them! they will blow them off the stage. at least they have done so the times i have seen them.
and why are people bashing Machine Head here? probly the best metal band of the last few years and more, i agree Supercharger wasnt very good but all the other albums are Burning Red included.
Sword and Down are great but havent heard in LOG, damn all the openers are better than the headliners, and yea Dave McCLain is fucking great drummer!!!

What dick said Machine Head would blow Metallica off the stage?? Hahaha get a fucking grip. Not a massive fan of either but seen both numerous times and you are talking pure and utter shite!

To all Metallica fans- dont bother reacting to the haters on here for Christs sake. Most of these dickheads obsess about bands that are barely legible. Most of these dicks listen to bands based on their relative proximity to the mainstream hahaha. Probably all 14 to 16 year olds who still haven't the intelligence to realise that the sell-out dichotomy is a misnomer! Good luck all you sad little boys and girls.

And it sounds like LOAD, not the 80's shit, except with metal solos. It's honestly the least inspired thing they've ever done, though it is slightly better than St. Anger.

Machine Head is okay, their newest album, 'The Blackeneing' is pretty good. Haven't heard this supposed 'nu metal' stuff yet but I'm sure it will be hilarious.

...whenever they fuck around live, they always butcher a Maiden tune. Nice. Though the few times they attempted one live, it sounded very good. I saw them cover Prowler during the Snakepit tour. That was incredible.

hahaha Metallica is a joke, they are just ok live even if they play all of master of puppets. and they only play songs that are over 15 years old. saw them at a festival 2 years ago and they were the only band that didnt play at least one new song or a ong from their last album. and i have seen Machine Head live 3 times and always great and on their dvd too.
and it's pobably better to have 5000 true fans at your concert than 50000 were most of the people just know the hits or 2-3 songs artistically speaking but its better to have 50000 moneywise.
you go to a Metallica concert for example and many people just know songs from the black album or just enter sandman, nothing else matter and unforgiven and maybe One.
its probably more fun in the longer run to just play what you like and have fewer people at the concerts and just say fuckit.
they have enough money so why not?? instead of playing the same setlists every year. its not just Metallica, it happens to all bands that get very famous and sell millions of records.
but maybe thats the price of fame to and you cant stop it because you get so greedy.
