CHRIS CORNELL Sets Release Date For New Album - Aug. 25, 2008
According to The Pulse of Radio, former SOUNDGARDEN and AUDIOSLAVE frontman Chris Cornell has set October 14 as the release date for his third solo album, titled "Scream". The set was produced by pop and urban mastermind Timbaland, a choice that has proven controversial among fans of Cornell's earlier heavy rock projects. But the singer told The Pulse of Radio that he was always in control of his own record. "A lot of people were concerned about, like, am I gonna do what, for example, Timbaland tells me to do, if he wants to tell me to do something, that kind of thing," he said. "We didn't really have that relationship, it wasn't that type of a process. It was more, he would bring in a beat, an idea, I would write to it and sing it, and we would move on kind of to the next thing."

Timbaland has previously produced albums by MADONNA, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, ASHLEE SIMPSON and many others, in addition to his own projects.

Cornell is currently previewing three tracks from "Scream", called "Long Gone", "Watch Out" and "Ground Zero", at his MySpace page.

The vocalist just finished a stint on LINKIN PARK's Projekt Revolution tour, which wrapped on Sunday (August 24) in Texas. He next performs at the House of Blues in San Diego on Friday (August 29).

Cornell's previous solo album, "Carry On", was released in the spring of 2007. He officially left AUDIOSLAVE earlier that year.

...studio version that is

but since it sounds like nothing he's ever done and it's not rock/metal everyone here will hate it, surprise!

say what you want about the style change, but the high note at 3:14 sounds real nice and effortless, song should have had more of that...he's got a pleasing lower voice but his high range is really what made his career, even if it's more difficult/painful now.

needless to say, i'm a huge cornell fan. seeing him here in san diego on friday. small HOB show...very excited. it'll be my first time...so glad i don't have to catch him on that awful linkin park festival.

i was a huge fan of soundgarden growing up and euphoria morning might be my favorite album ever. can't wait for this, even if it'll be the first album of the genre (post-80s pop) that i'll have paid for

I've been a big defender of Cornell's first two solo albums, but this is just way too far away from what he does best. He is an incredible rock singer, but this stuff just sounds like generic trip-hop-lite, and lacks the power his rock stuff has. I'll be skipping this one.

+ 1 for the post above. I loved the first 2 solo albums, but what I have heard so far of the new album is really mediocre.

CC has officially jumped the shark. "Preaching The End Of The World" was a great ballad, he should to that & the Temple Of The Dog-type mellow stuff. This sounds like current day Journey.

actually, present day journey sounds just like vintage journey, haha...

i definitely agree (and expect) that chris will try something else next, hopefully a "reach down" esque gospel album with a few well-arranged acoustic numbers in between. that would give him a chance to demonstrate his loud/high/scream voice in the more melodic music he prefers.

i wouldn't call this project "jumping the shark" - it really seems to me that he did it more as a casual/fun thing than a serious, calculated effort. perhaps his songwriting style will show more in other tracks. but, if it sells...who knows. if this album is nearly as successful as others like it (multiplatinum timbaland-produced stuff), i'm sure it'll be followed with another.

the real question for this release is, can a modern pop album go platinum without an expensive music video and a singer that can dance?

But let's be honest.

Chris Cornell:
A white rocker in his 40's
Has 20 years worth of hits
Among the greatest rock singers and vocalists of all time...reinvents himself as a pop singer and crashes a genre of artists half his age. It's daring, it's risky, rock fans know this.

Yet if it gets people interested in Cornell's back catalog, I'm all for it. Most pop fans would've never heard of Cornell otherwise.

And at this point, if it flops, there's always Soundgarden.

Cornell is an amazing singer/songwriter. Better then any of that death metal crap. So he is trying something new. Im fine with that. Who knows next album maybe a rock album. Cornell never makes the same album 2wice.

but all the new songs i've heard are comercial rubbish. This live version of Long Gone is slightly better than the record version cause it sounds more natural. The recorded version is autotuned to shit.

only when he has a kick ass rock band behind him. Soundgarden and Audioslave were two of the most underrated bands ever but they were two of the best bands ever as well. "Scream" makes me want to do just that. Not in joy either.

I have been a fan of Chris Cornell since the Soundgarden days.
I LOVE the new songs and I think that Cornell's decision to work with TIMBALAND will do nothing but attract a new fan base and "weed out" those old fans that aren't able to change with the times.

I think that to question his move in working with Tim is to question his musical integrity . . . and Cornell has MORE than proven himself to be a versatile vocalist, able of transcending even the CONCEPT of "genre."

Cornell is AWESOME . . . and he has all the workings of a gospel/r&b vocalist. He has always experimented around with sound . . . and I think that you should all wait until OCTOBER 14th to judge . . .

Sincerely,
With Love,

I'm not running for the hills in despair of this new collaboration! It drives me crazy with the whole "bring back soundgarden" bit! The man has moved on!!! That was brilliance then and there is brilliance now, just in different forms. People need to accept change, who knows you just may like it!
