METALLICA: Video Footage Of KERRANG! AWARDS Acceptance Speech Available - Aug. 27, 2008
Fan-filmed video footage of METALLICA's acceptance speech at the 2008 Kerrang! Awards — which was held in London on Thursday, August 21 — can be viewed below.

Hosted by ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian, Kerrang! Awards saw METALLICA collect the Kerrang! Inspiration gong, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE inducted to the magazine’s Hall Of Fame and Sheffield rockers DEF LEPPARD acknowledging their Classic Songwriter award via a video message, reports MusicWeek.com.

SLIPKNOT was also in attendance to be declared Kerrang! Icon while the biggest winner of the night proved to be 30 SECONDS TO MARS, who received the awards for Best Single for "From Yesterday" and Best International Band.

In collecting the Inspiration award to a raucous standing ovation, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich said, "There are so many people in this room that inspire us and keep us alive, so I just want to thank everyone for keeping METALLICA alive."

SLIPKNOT lead singer Corey Taylor dedicated his band's award to the band's drummer Joey Jordison, who was absent due to a broken ankle.

Taylor said: "I'm speechless; I don't know what to say. I wish there was more of us here. I just showed up for the booze."

Lars knew about... 5 other bands. Amazing. I see they really have come off their perch to connect with the rest of us.

New album will suck, i know it.

Curious where this band rates with the blabbermouth elite, troll contingent, etc.

If you already know it will suck, it will allways suck to your ears. And even if you like it when you ear it (because, as all the trendy "metallica haters" out there, you WILL ear it) you won't be so ballsy to admit it as you are anxious to drop some random no-brain comment like that...

I'm a bit of a casual fan. Don't know jack about all the mythology surrounding their whole concept, but they have some decent songs. With dude's voice, it's either love em or hate em it seems. I get the same argument against this band that people levy against Rush or Maiden, or hell even The Darkness, arguments that range from the intelligible to something involving the singers testicles being manipulated in some way to achieve such sound. I happen to dig whacked out, falsetto-ish, high register vocals when combined with certain musical elements. Never seen them live, but I will vouch for the drummers live playing capabilities. Having seen him with the onstage warzone that is The Dillinger Escape Plan, multiple times before he left the band, I will say he is an extremely talented drummer, fucking robotic precision. DEPs new drummer is no slouch either. He's like an octopus.

Did not know that. I like the Falsetto singing, but understand how his Geddy Lee approach to vocals could wear people down after 10 songs. Outer space & dungeons & dragons aside, I dig the vocals, guitar work, overall vibe. They seem to have trouble finding the right fit on tours to me, as I have seen them mingled in some weird line ups.

I like all types of music except for rap and hiphop. CoCa is pretty fucking cool in my book but I agree to disagree with all my metalhead friends. They hate em. lol. It doesn't bother me.
I've followed their story/comic book/cd's from the beginning. Everyones free to have their own opinion of them. It won't change my mind. Plus they beat up Earth Crisis. Those guys are dicks and deserved it. Respect.

I saw them a couple weeks back with DEP's old drummer. My second time since COCa's orig drummer left. The man is amazing. Some of those songs are like 8 to 9 minutes and he plays em like he wrote em. They couldn't have chosen a better replacement. I just wish he would have been on their last album. Taylor was good but didn't do anything surprising for me.

They're on that perch cause of what they did 20 some years ago. Not for anything they did recently or maybe they'd be higher up on that list.

they're just re-gurgitating they're old songs. i consider the new songs I've heard so far re-mixes of old stuff, not new stuff. 80's old school metal is popular again, so guess what Metallica does?????

I feel like I almost had a courteous, professional, discussion amongst friends. Not only did I learn something, but it was free of insults, sarcasm, & the use of the term fanboy, hater, or the phrase metallica = a parody of themselves.

I didn't think that was possible on hear. That was fun.

C&C in my opinion is a killer band. It's what I listen to when I want to hear something lighter but still rocking. I can only listen to so much death metal before I need a break. But yeah, C&C have this funky, progressive vibe that I totally dig. The vocals took me a while to get into, but the music sucked me in, and after you listen to it for a while, the vocals start to really fit the music and you couldn't imagine anyone but Claudio singing for them.

Chris Pennie is, of course, a god among men, but I miss their old drummer. He had such a unique funky groove to his style.
