Man Who Listened To SLIPKNOT Before Committing Murder Gets 50 Years To Life - Aug. 30, 2008
John F. Berry of The Press-Enterprise reports that one of two people who were convicted of luring their friend to his death after listening to SLIPKNOT was sentenced Friday morning (August 29) to 50 years to life in prison.

Jason Lamar Harris (photo), 25, said nothing when he was sentenced in San Bernardino County Superior Court for the late-night stabbing of Terry Ray Taylor, 21, on May 23, 2003.

Harris was also ordered to pay $3,223 in restitution to cover burial costs and grief counseling for Taylor's mother.

A previous prosecutor in the case, Doug Poston, said at a 2004 court hearing that Harris and co-defendant Amber Rose Riley, 21, were listening to a SLIPKNOT CD before and after they killed Taylor at San Bernardino's Perris Hill Park.

They particularly listened to "Disasterpiece", which has lyrics discussing slitting a victim's throat, Poston said.

Riley also admitted watching a horror movie titled "Satan's School for Girls" before the slaying, Poston said.

One motive for the killing was Riley's desire to see a dead body, the prosecutor said.

Probably because every slipknot post attracts a lot of attention... ironically more from people who hate the band than those that actually care.

My advice is if you wanna see less of this crap, don't look at it...and definitely do not comment. :)

Hey, I'm not one to suggest that bands lead people to kill others, but I think this is an example of that being the case. I like alot of Venom's stuff (Bloodlust for example) and I've never teared an infant's flesh etc., but the music is great. Slipknot as a far as I can figure suck in the music dept. And if you wanna be cool about violence and sing about it in your songs that be cool enough to step up and say 'Yeah, we wrote that song and it glorifies violence and it was great the way we have such an influence ...'

Maybe there are people out there that can't figure out the difference between reality and fantasy, but in this case I think the band has some influence. For example, you probably wont see an article up here how Within Temptation or Raven or even Satan (the band) influenced a murder. And I think Ozzy's lyrics are too vague to be influential. However there isn't much room for doubt about Slipknot.

And no I don't think I would blame Slipknot for that South Africa incident within thge last monthas much as I would blame bullying.

Seems like there is a large contingent of music fans who would rather not have Slipkunt news posted at all. Maybe this band is dispicable, and maybe people are realizing that. Maybe theyre hacks, and just maybe they draw the hate of those who can see through the facade. Maybe they fucking blow goat-ass and some people are not keen on such terrible music being featured on this site. Maybe the lead singer drinks so much because he cant believe his life has come down to this. Maybe he wishes he had a pair, so his chorus vocals didn't sound like new found glory. Maybe he's just tired of being chased around by clowns on stage and 12 year olds off. Maybe he should listen to the voices when they tell him to put an end to this whole fucking debacle of a band....

Im just sayin'.

Have to disagree here, weak people are going to self-destruct, and does not matter what you put in front of them. They will twist it for there own personal use.

Despite everyones search for the "authentic" in rock/ metal. It is all fake, just like Hollywood, and a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

Art is a imitation/ reflection on life, never the other way around. People do self-destructive acts and rock/metal bands just comment on those events.

As far as your comment you stating Slipknot sucks in the music departement, since all bands are derivitive, even the original acts, from there predeccessors. Slipknot was the logical successors to Sepultura's "Roots" and Soulfly's "Debut" CD, just they threw more twist and turns in the songwriting, and added alot speed to the groove.

NuMetal is just like any other sub-genre either you listen to that kind of music or you do not.

Music does have a influence on the way people think and even act, and you know it! Wether its a small influence or a big one. But I hate when people say "Oh there they go blaming metal again" People who listen to violent rap and actually believe some of things they say will go and try to attempt those acts. Same goes for metal, country and even pop music. Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Deicide (My favorite band) or whoever sings about murder hating god and all kinds of crazy shit. There is some teenager or even adult out there who WILL honestly believe these things and try to do them. And these ARE the people you see in the news committing these crimes. Music influences the things people buy, how they dress even sometimes how they talk. So saying metal influenced a murder...yeah i believe it...and i am a huge death metal fan (mainly thats all i listen to) but I definitely believed there is more to any case... mental health, bad parenting, drug/alcohol abuse etc. You can be the most mature buisness professional in the world. The music you listen to influences something you do in some way or another...its just up to that person and level of maturity of how much they let it influence them. and also whether they can tell art from reality. Enough said...GOING TO SLEEP.

i am a maggot first metal head second. i have every album, i study the music and lyrics closely. u guys are too pig headed to see beyond the lyrics. in the heretic anthem when cory roars: "im a popstar threat" and "all the money in the world can't buy me" he's saying he hates mainstream pop, and he isn't gunna turn tricks to be like the other pussy bands like limp biscut, or incubus. when he belts out: "if ur 555 then im 666" it doesn't mean he's satanic, it means ur being like every other person, every other number. he's different he's 666 he's above and beyond you. i happen to know for a fact slipknot are not satanic or killers them selves. i'v reserched about 70% of the interviews and thier all just guys from des moines IOWA where the local scene was the 2 worst scenes: mainstream pop, gangster rap. u gotta also realize that these guys came from different places, all having been treated like crap for bein who they are. they pent up their rage and anger, and let it all out on the debute album and iowa. vol.3 was about how they were letting the world know they wouldn't stop, break up, or quit for any reason. this new album is much darker and angerier than all the other combined. as i've read they wrote it cuz if u've noticed(or not, idk what u pussys do) but the world is goin to hell and what better way for the world to end than blareing out ur window: ALL HOPE IS GONE. each member has given the shirts off their backs basicly for fans time and time again. there is no band who is more dedicated than slipknot. ill fight anyone who trys to prove me wrong. and fyi its not the music the makes people kill others, its people u dumb asses

Maggot (still laughing at that LOL omg) but anyways...you are right about artist meaning different things in lyrics but some people who have severe mental disorders can't see past that and if they can't decipher the meaning behind anything, especially heavy metal lyrics, they will take it for face value

NO !!!!!!!!. Metal is something I enjoy first for the music, not black metal vs. AOR, but Classical vs. Jazz vs. Blues. I like Classical over the other 2. Lyrics in metal, can not be taken that serious, compared to all the religious and political books every published

I have been a metal fan going on 30 years, and Metal is NOT my religion or polictial affiliation.

As far as fans of band taking to heart, what is being said (all fake of course) just to get a rise out of people, those people are dangerous/ self-destructive, even if all the vocals were swiped from every CD ever made.

I say let bands express whatever they want, and lets not ruin freedom of speech, because of a few defective/ self-destructive assholes.

Excellent idea, except music is subjective from person to person, that person may like the selection of NOTES from the NEW MetallicA. I will not like the NEW MetallicA because I dislike Alternative Rock(LOAD, RELOAD, ST ANGER), I have tons of alternative rock in my collection. I just do not like the NOTE selections on those CD's. Where as the earlier CD's had alot of sounds I really enjoyed, ala Jaguar, Raven, Angel Witch, Black Sabbath, Holocaust, Satan, Savage, Diamond Head, Motorhead

One of my favorite CD is Marty Freidman's "Dragons Kiss" but the sound of Jazz drives me bat-shit insane like someone scrapping a chalkboard with a sword.

I can believe that listening to slipknot can make people deranged enough to kill someone, not because of the themes or tone of the music, but because having to listen to perhaps the shittiest "band" of all time is enough to drive anyone out of their mind. Years in the quiet seclusion of a mental ward would be a sweet release from the awful trash one must be subjugated to listen to due to strong desire at the dawning stages of puberty to be "different" (which means anything that might get a rise out of your authority figures, like your parents.)

As for our 25 year old killer, anyone with that bad of taste in music at 25 was crazy to begin with, it was only a matter of time. Make him pay the restitution, then execute him. Don't do it so expensively as old sparky. Give him a real metal send off by having Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Rush playing in the background while he is eaten alive by wolves.

I think you said it best. When I was younger I used to defend metal and disagreed that it had any influence. Now that I'm older and have done much social work with "at risk youth" I can definitely see the connection between all media and behavior. As you said it depends on the individual and level of maturity as well as a ton of other factors, but yes music does have an impact on mental development. I still love metal and the content of its lyrics, but can accept the fact that it does influence behavior with already troubled youth. Do I want to censor such content? Of course not, I love it too much for that. I just feel there should be a sense of responsibility attached to such artists. Gwar would be a perfect example. They make it more than obvious that their message is not to be taken seriously and it is in the name of entertainment and fun. As much as all of us on this site love metal, we shouldn't be so arrogant to believe that it has no influence or impact on behavior or our thought process. I've never been a fan of Slipknot (I see them more as jock metal- chugga chugga riffs and moshing), but I also don't feel that they should be held liable. They should at the very least understand the influence they may have on their fans and address it as other blamed acts before them have.

Maybe these songs are on Welcome to hell as bonus tracks. 'Die Hard' and 'Acid Queen' were also used as bonus trax on one or the other of these 1st two lps.
