METALLICA: Best Buy-Exclusive Version Of New Album To Include 'Guitar Hero' Bonus Tracks

If you order METALLICA's new album, "Death Magnetic", from Best Buy, you will get 11 exclusive bonus tracks for the Xbox 360 game Guitar Hero III and free shipping. For more information, see the flyer below or go to this location. METALLICA has officially set Friday, September 12 as the "worldwide" release date for "Death Magnetic". The CD will be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on the same day the album arrives in stores. The band is offering the record for sale in numerous configurations, ranging from a digital-only release to a deluxe "coffin box" that will come with a bonus CD, a DVD, a T-shirt, guitar picks and other goodies. METALLICA will play two budget-priced shows in London and Berlin to launch "Death Magnetic", including the opening show on September 12 at the new 17,000-capacity O2 World arena in Berlin. METALLICA also plays London O2 arena on September 15, with tickets priced at £5 ($9), according to Billboard.com. Proceeds from both shows go to local charities. The concerts will go on sale to registered fans only with tickets priced €10 ($14).

It's tough to sell a CD nowdays so whatever gets units out the door...
I don't have an x box and I'm sure a lot of other people don't either so it makes no difference really.
Still going to buy this one, probably at Best Buy too.
...Maybe I can use the free download card for kindling in case the album is as bad as the last one. I don't think it will be though. I'm actually looking forward to this one. I'm hoping this is the album that should have followed the self-titled and we can all just pretend that the last 15 years didn't happen.

These "Bonus Tracks" could be anyone. It doesn't specifically say that they are Metallica songs. It's probably a bunch of second rate bands songs that didn't make the original cut, but that the software company still has the rights to use at their discretion. Just another way for them to pull the wool over people's eyes and get the to pre-order the album before it's pirated.

Don't act as if you don't care, because if you didn't it wouldn't cause you to come here and talk shit. It's as simple as that. All I know is, most people who like bands like to have stuff from that band. Metallica knows that and they give it to them. Is that not what the rest of the world is like? The only difference is this isn't hurting people in any way shape or form. It's about the music, not about how long their hair is or what they sell along with the CD.

The album will be available for Guitar Hero III on September 12 as well, so I'm guessing 10 of the 11 tracks are those which will appear on Death Magnetic. No clue as to what the 11th track might be.

cause the last few news items here on blabbermouth about metallica has been SPECIFICALLY about what you get along with the CD.
Im going to look at all the options out there first before I even think about buying the CD....cause I mean, I dont like the music clips I have heard yet, but these little bonuses are getting better with each new release. Perhaps the next one comes with a back rub and a blowjob.

They give bonus stuff 'cause people don't buy cd's anymore. It's a way to try to sell more cd's. What's wrong with that??? These guys are musicians and making albums are a big part of their work, so they want to make their product as much attractive as they can. I understand they screw a lot of fans (including myself) with the last couples albums but hey nobody forced me to buy those. I think they know they'll have to win back the fans so they do wathever they can.

I ordered Death Magnetic from the Best Buy page linked above mainly to get the Guitar Hero bonus tracks, and when I got it in the mail today there's nothing extra - no sticker, no download card, etc. After double checking the weekly Best Buy flyer, I come to find out that it's only the $30 "Special Edition" that includes the GH songs. So they're not really free or exclusive- it costs you $20 to d/l them separately off X-Box live anyway.
