SCOTT WEILAND To Release 'Happy' In November
- Sep. 2, 2008
|
|
Jonathan Cohen of Billboard.com reports that former VELVET REVOLVER and current STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland's second solo album, "Happy", will arrive November 18 via his own Softdrive label. The set was co-produced by Scott Weiland and Doug Grean, with Steve Albini engineering. "Happy" boasts guest appearances from three members of NO DOUBT: Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young. The record will follow up Weiland's 1998 solo debut, "12 Bar Blues", and the singer told The Pulse of Radio the new one is a natural progression. "It'll definitely be a sonic journey like the first album was, a little bit more focused since I'm not on a narcotic journey like I was on the last one. But, you know, still sort of all over the map, because my influences are so wide and varied." STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunited in April for a major summer tour after a six-year hiatus. The band rose to stardom in the 1990s, but its career was derailed by Weiland's drug problems and arrests. Weiland spent a month in rehab earlier this year, following an arrest last November on a DUI charge. The singer and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS drummer Eric Kretz were recently sued by the group's label, Atlantic Records, who allege that the pair have issued threats to stop performing unless their recording contract is changed.

Saw him live a couple nights ago and his voice sounded great.
Though, I will speculate, he seemed kind of Junked-up. Very slow moving/talking, seemed like he had no energy, bizzare rambling etc...

"Thanks for leave us hanging in Tampa. While thousands of people paid for tix sat through crappy opening bands drank $9 beers announcement to the crowd at 10:15 the show is cancelled. "
Really? that is fucking lame. I bet they knew they were cancelling long before everyone got to the show, but wanted to make sure those tickets got used so they didn't have to reschedule a make up show. Looks like scotts drug problems aren't over.

I love how Scott mentions he is "not on a narcotic jorney". BULL S**T - I am calling him out. Maybe he's not using street drugs now, just his Dr. prescribed medications LOL.
I was at the Tampa show and they made the announcement the show was cancelled due to "inclement weather". Did I mention that the announcement was made 45 minutes before the venue closes. They played the night before Miami which is a 4 hour drive from Tampa. The opening band, the stage, the sound and lighting crew all seemed to make it to the venue. Scott is an UNPROFESSIONAL prick. And instead of getting him off the road and back into rehab for the thousandth time, the STP management decide to schedule more shows and not even acknowledge the fiasco in Tampa.
Scott has been giving a mushmouth, mumbling and incoherent performance latley anyhow from all the reports lately. Scott releasing it on his own label equals no reputable record label wants him.

Weiland you douche. You were in not one, but 2 successful bands, and you fuck both of them up because of stupidity. The guy plays a show at Madison Square Garden and then gets picked up in a shitty apartment scoring heroin. Fucking loser. I hope "Happy" sells zero copies, except for maybe Gwen Stefani.

Maybe he was wasted at the shows you guys were at. But they were on the ball in Charlotte. They were 40 minutes late. But came out and owned everybody. Couldnt hear what he was saying between songs, but during the songs.. fucking amazing.

He can still sing, saw STP at the Virgin Festival in Calgary and he sounded great.
It's only in interviews where he appears really messed up because he's killed to many brain cells he struggles to form a coherent sentence. Look at the Chili Peppers John Frusciante, a great guitarist but has trouble speaking complete sentences. Ain't it a shame.

When Scott is on his game, he's on it. A fine artist and I've been fortunate that both times I've seen him, he's been in top form. Unfortunately, he seems to be slipping.

is right on. Scott is great, when on his game, live & studio, like all STP studio albums(last one is so unheralded, but great!), & did well in VR. But he shoots himself in the foot.

So it's basically a No Doubt album with Scott Weiland as the singer then?
Pass either way.

He fell off the stage - needs to get his life together or else he'll end up like Layne Staley: friendless and dead: very frustrating to see someone with this much natural talent continue to screw things up for himself and those around him.
But that's what junkies do...
