JIMMY PAGE Defends Olympics Performance - Sep. 4, 2008
World Entertainment News Network reports that LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page has defended his recent performance at the Beijing Olympics with Leona Lewis — insisting he can't understand why their act received such negative reviews.

Page teamed up with Lewis for a one-off rendition of the ZEPPELIN classic "Whole Lotta Love" at the closing ceremony of the games last month.

But the duet was poorly received, with many critics branding it the low point of the 2008 event.

And Page is baffled by the poor feedback — because he thought the collaboration went well.

He says, "We got so much criticism and I really don't know why. I think we did a great job — it was an honor to be there. People just need to be less cynical. You know we went out there, we only had ten minutes — what did people expect?"

I saw the closing ceremonies. Page slayed. I don't know who this singer was, but she was a hot J-Lo looking number. She wasn't trying to be Robert Plant, and she didn't desecrate the song. And as long as his playing rocked, that's all that matters.

Can anyone tell me why he got such criticism? I saw it too and I simply liked it. Robert Plant wasn´t there? She didn´t ruin the song at all, she sang it in her way but she did it well. Why do people need so purist? Please be less dramatic, he didn´t have much time, maybe Robert Plant couldn´t be there (I don´t know why he wasn´t there, it could´ve been awesome), but Jimmy agreed. It was promotion for the next Olympics and for the group (we all know they don´t need it, but the UK has chosen LZ to promote their next games in China). Jimmy represented them there. What do you find wrong?

You should have not done it. China government sucks.

Hipocrisy all around the world. And bullets still being shot and then paid by the people shooted. Gold medal for Jimmy.

I actually kinda sorta liked that song with P Shitty lol... but I agree with all of you. Mr. Page can do whatever the fuck he wants cuz when he was in Zepplin, the people reviewing his performance were little children still shitting in their pants!

To all that think China is a hypocritical government I agree, but it was just a performance. We all know the world is fucked-up place in which all kinds of unfair things are done, but we must accept it whether we like it or not. This happens in China, the rest of the world and in the happens in the everyday news even very close to you, don´t try to limitate yourselves to China. Are you going to critizice JP for having performed there? As people said here, he can do whatever the f..k he wants to and he will agree with you that the Chinese g´mnt sucks, but he JUST HAS PERFORMED representing his country for the next Olympics. It´s that simple.

COMMENT | Jimmy Page is a big sellout...

...That Page never actually played the track live but lipsynced his playing to a backing track. If you look at the secong video at 1'22, you'll see him adjust his vest but magically the riff keeps playing. Same for the fake pick slides where his hand doesn't even touch the neck.

And notice how Page defends his performance at the olympics but neglects to mention his was faked. Bad Jimmy, bad!

Maybe it wa snot his decision to pre-record it. The commies in China do not permit errors in thier "ceremonies". And I say who cares - he did it for England, good for him, and it was better than the other crap on there, like Jackie Chan trying to sing. lol

P.S. No one that was in in Led Zeppelin should have to defend anything.

I can't see the link cause my work blocks it but if plumber dude is right, lip syncing is a blasphemy for a rock/metal band.

I'm not really bugged to much by Page's air guitar but that someone thought this leona lewis broad belongs on the same stage as Page.

She's a game show winner for all intents and purposes and, quite frankly, is gonna come "in the out door".

Ya, nice "performance" - air guitaring? I'm not a die hard Page fan & I was disappointed. The chick is hot, so I'll let her slide.

He's puzzled that people didn't like his and Leona Lewis' air-guitar-and-lip-synching rendition of a beloved song?
