METALLICA's 'Death Magnetic' To Be Officially Released Three Days Earlier In France?
- Sep. 4, 2008
|
|
According to VS-webzine.com and the web site of the French retailer FNAC, METALLICA's new album, "Death Magnetic", will be made available in France on Tuesday, September 9 — three days earlier than the previously announced September 12 "worldwide" release date. This information was also apparently confirmed by the French branch of Universal Music, which is distributing the CD in Europe. Several copies of "Death Magnetic" were sold early at a Paris record store on Tuesday (September 2), which led to the entire album being leaked online within hours. A new METALLICA song, called "Cyanide", is streaming at the group's official web site, Metallica.com. The track was debuted live by the group last month during its co-headlining performance at Ozzfest. In addition, the video for the CD's first official single, "The Day That Never Comes", can also be viewed at the band's web site. The clip was filmed in late July in the desert about an hour north of Los Angeles. "Death Magnetic" will also be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock the same day that the record is released. METALLICA will play two low-dough shows in Europe to celebrate the CD's release, in Berlin on September 12 and London on September 15. Tickets for both are priced under $20 and open to fan club members only. The band will kick off its first indoor North American tour on October 21 in Glendale, Arizona, with shows booked through the end of January. ***Thanks to BLABBERMOUTH.NET users for creating the photo parody below. I have listened to both Cyanide and The day that never comes, now I can only anticipate hearing 8 new songs instead of 10. And if they all sound similiar to these two, It's not as exciting. I looked at the photo's of the inside of the CD released in France so that excitement has been killed too. Damn it! Oh well 'Get Thrashed' is out soon too, cant wait!

For all you haters. I have pre-ordered Death Magnetic. Thank you(people still do buy cd's)
Anyway, if the cd is leaked already (F**king French !) WHY NOT let the pre-ordered fans get their Digital Download NOW !!
It would be better than having us seek out the album we are WAITING for. Rather than go to some lowball you-post-it site to hear a shitty stream of some french kids copy.
WHY NOT NOW !! Mines PAID for !!
Can I get a HELL YEAH ?

If I put it in the player and I like it, then I like. I don't have to compare it to anything or pick it apart. That's how I approach this album. So far I believe its impressive. I mean if Metallica really did record their best album would many of us be willing to admit it. NOPE. We would all point to the past in some postive or negative way. So as far as becoming a classic Metallica LP, this album has little to no chance. As far as a collection of songs from a bunch of 45 year olds, I think it's pretty fuckin boss.
Having said that. There are a lot of pieces that I feel sound like someone wrote for Metallica or at least altered, such as some of the twin harmonies (dissonant harmonies, I wonder who came up with that idea?).
Also, I remember after seeing the S&M movie, thinking how James' voice seemed liked it had really become a finely tuned instrument for him. Really matured. After that its been all downhill. Although this album is much better than St. Anger, the vocals still feel like stylistically they get lost once and a while and don't have the confidence that the man who sang on S&M had. Who knows though, that's me being picky. S&M was probably super pro tooled anyway.
For the record, I think Reroute was a good change for In Flames. They've changed with every album wheather anyone wants them to or not so anyone who didn't see that coming is a blind old dog.

I do kind of agree. A lot of the material sounds like they took what they liked about Load, Reload, and St Anger and just tried to make it a little more thrashy. Not a bad observation.
The thing I'm looking most forward to, is seeing how I feel about this album in a month or 2 after I've had a chance to let it marinate.

I think they sold out WORSE than Metallica, if that gives you any indication of how I feel about them nowadays!
Metallica still had that palm muted chugga chugga during their whole time, and James's voice- In Flames has hardly anything that sounds like classic In Flames anymore.. Plus Metallica always had at least half their setlist containing classic era material. In Flames plays ONE song before Clayman era?

I agree with In Flames I like the old stuff better. The difference in the set lists though lies in confidence. As much as you don't like the new stuff In Flames writes, they obviously do. Hence lots of new stuff in the set list. Metallica has been confused about what to do since the fall of Metal from glory in North America.

===================
I'd respect In Flames change more if it were a slow stylistic progression, ala Amorphis or Paradise Lost (though the latter band's was more controversial when they went electronic for awhile)..But In Flames started to wear jumpsuits and do "jump da fuck up" riffs, and also stated they were going for a wider (Read:American) audience so I lost all respect for them. As in comparing them to Amorphis, Amorphis still made quality music (even if I preferred the first two or three albums from them) and could've changed the name of the band (since they too had limited songs from the first two or three in their setlist) but I think In Flames do have some commercial aspirations- I am willing to bet they go in a more "Core" direction complete with the Gothenberg derived riffing (even though theyre one of the originators of it!). Sad to say, but knowing about what happens when a band is signed and all the machinery involved, I think In Flames sold out, despite them also maybe having some of those mallcore influences as well!

In other thoughts: This record contains some damn fine songs. Sure, there are a couple of tracks I could do without (The day, and Cyanide), but over all - pretty fucking good. Sound quality - sure it could be better, but hey - it is not anywhere near as bad as some people are making it out to be.
After listening to the whole thing a few times - I still prefer the first five studio releases, but feel this record is a mighty big step in the right direction.

No doubt that 3 to 4 songs are good in the album. But rest of the stuff make me think that Metallica have nothing to offer. But I admit there are some good stuff in the album, But tracks like Unforgiven 3 and Suicide and Redemption, and the first two songs are long tracks that go nowhere.

I think only Terrorizer had an agreeable review of the album, except for two things.
1. The reviewer said Unforgiven III blew BOTH its namesakes out of the water. While it is most certainly better than U. II, I dont see how anyone could think its better than the first one... and Im not even that much of a fan of that song OR of the Black Album at all for that matter. There is NO denying that structurally the first one is superior though.
2. To say That Was Your Life is the heaviest thing theyve written since Battery is ludicrous... How about almost ANY song on AJFA????
You know what? Nevermind. The guy from Terrorizer is obviously an idiot so just strike what i said earlier... LOL

Couldn't help myself and DL's the album (already pre-ordered it anyway). I can't begin to express how pleased I am with it!!! In my humble opinion, this should have been the album to come out after AJFA. It incorporats many of the high points of their first four albums with some progressive and modern elements sprinkled in throughout to make it sound totally unique to their catalogue.
I've been waiting for THIS album for a long time, and I really fucking jazzed up that they finally delivered it!
And just in case you didn't already know -
