METALLICA: No Early Release For 'Death Magnetic'
- Sep. 4, 2008
|
|
A representative for METALLICA's management company, QPrime, has denied online reports that the band's new album, "Death Magnetic", will be released several days early in some parts of Europe. The web site of the French retailer FNAC had listed a release date of September 9 for "Death Magnetic" — three days earlier than the previously announced September 12 "worldwide" release date. However, the QPrime spokesperson has told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that this was a "mistake" and the FNAC web site has since been updated with the correct information. Several copies of "Death Magnetic" were sold early at a Paris record store on Tuesday (September 2), which led to the entire album being leaked online within hours. According to FMQB.com, this week's FMQB Productions broadcast special, "Metallica: The World Premiere Of Death Magnetic", will be hosted by FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins. The pair will sit down with METALLICA for a live broadcast from 'TALLICA HQ tonight (Thursday, September 4), giving an exclusive look into one of the most anticipated albums of 2008. "The World Premiere Of Death Magnetic" will air on stations across the country starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. The 60-minute program will feature James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo giving fans an exclusive look at "Death Magnetic". Keep an eye out at Metallica.com for a listing of stations carrying this program.

This is the best album since Justice, maybe better then Justice. At least the best metal album since 1988. Every sight I go to loves this CD except for the losers on this sight. All Nightmare Long, Broken Beat Scarred, That was just your Life and Judas Kiss are among the best Metallica songs of all time.

I gave it a listen and I have to give it a Thumbs Down. Ride the Lightning was my first Metallica album, so I have been a fan since. Truthfully, I put this above St. Anger. The production is better, but the songwriting is very poor. James said this album was going to be darker, but there was no point in the songs that resounded this. Then James said this album was going to be heavy. Load had a better heavy sound than this album. This is by no means a bad album as younger fans may enjoy it, but it sounds more rudimentary with the same riff throughout the songs. I think the bands recently that destroy are Throwdown, Down, Lamb of God and Kataklysm. Metallica has just lost that edge. I am glad I won't buy it like St. Anger as I would rather purchase and promote bands that aren't just doing it for the money.

I've been listening to Metallica for 20 years. This album is comparable to when your parents came through with that one thing you really really wanted for Christmas that year.

I heard all of the new album. I love it. I think it's the best thing they've done since justice. Can't compare it to the first 4 albums though, or any of their albums period. It's like comparing apples and oranges. But it's definitely a extremely welcome change to what they put out during the 90's. I will definitely be buying it on Sept 12...or whenever they decide to release it.

I gave it a 7.5 out of 10 rating on my blog, not that I matter much. Personal opinion is that every song is good with the exception of Cyanide and Unforgiven III. My favorite song is Suicide and Redemption. It is a better album than the Black Album by just a bit. I'll buy it when it comes out and consider it the official follow up to Justice.

I've been listening to this CD nonstop and cant wait till the real thing officially comes out. For the people comparing this cd to load and reload are you fucking stupid? Load and Re-load are more hard rock and yes maybe they have a little bit of a country bluesy style here and there but it's totally different than any song off of death magnetic maybe except The End of the line that kinda had a little bit of a reload feel except in E tuning and faster. The weakest track on the album would have to be The Day That Never Comes but what do you expect from a radio friendly single. Unforgiven III was a little weird at first but after a couple more listens it actually grew on me. My favorites are That Was Just Your Life (best track on the album ! !), All Nightmare Long, Judas Kiss, and My Apocalypse. This the best album to come out since And Justice For All and it's better than the new Slipknot record that's for sure. Give it a shot you may actually enjoy it.

I like My Apocalypse, and the rest is at least listenable. They gave Lars back his snare drum, took away Kirk's wah-wah pedal (mostly), and reintroduced solos. Of course it's better than the last two albums, but that doesn't make it good.

It took me a little while, but eventually load/Re-load did grow on me. Maybe it was part of some personal growth, who knows :) The St. Anger thing I have to fully agree again. There certainly were very cool things on it but it just lacked a solid production. One thing that, in my opinion, has been solved now with the arrival of Rubin. I'm sure gonna pick it up next week. allready ordered the Coffin box :P Damn, my patience is being tested hehehe .....7 more days........

I think Load/Reload should've been 1 album... There are good songs on each, then the rest is filler. Bleeding Me is a good tune no matter what the era we are talking about.... But I thought there were a lot of garbage songs on both, that I still can't get into. As for St. Anger, I actually like the tunes, and the aggression. It's a bit dislocated, but I actually enjoyed the rehersal DVD more than the CD.. You can hear the bass, and the drums sound better on it...
With all that said... Death Magnectic isn't a perfect album, but I think the best one they've done since AJFA... it tops the Black Album...

Wow, and I used to wonder why Metal fans are called the dumbest people alive.
Every Metallica thread (check that, every thread in here) is the same old tired, grade school level mug slinging...
The haters gotta come in and troll because of their insecurity that other people have different musical tastes than they do (that, and the fact they secretely hate their own lives). Seriously, you guys, get over it. Maybe then there's a chance you could actually like yourself someday and do something productive
And then here come the dorky Metallica fans waddling in, getting all bent out of shape because, "oh no, somebody said something bad about Metallica"...God forbid! (truthfully, they are a completely average band at this point...and there are countless groups out there with more talent, writing better songs these days. But, whatever...drink the Kool-Aid)
Honestly, with a few exceptions, you people posting here are dumb as rocks. And because of you damn nerds retardedly flying the flag of Metal like ham-fisted mongoloids, I just tell woman i'm into indie rock to avoid the embarrassment of being associated with you shmucks. And, trust me, indie rock guys get much hotter woman. Too bad I really don't like the music. Oh well.

I have heard only the stremed versions of the 3 songs that are out there. What i have heard is Metallica sounding like Slayer. Does P rick Rubin only know how to produce one sound. It sounds OK but please James Lars Kirk Rob go back to our mate Fleming, have you heard how godd Eviles album sounds. Good thick guitars, conventional drum sound and crisp clear vocals. If Rubin said to me "this is your next album after MOP what should you do next?" Fuck him right off and go and see the guy who recorded MOP and RTL and bask in the glory. still too blues based for me, and where the hell are the RIFFS?! they strum too many chords in places that the 1st 4 albums had killer riffs, this shit sounds almost like punk in places. the production, vocals, drums, and songwriting kill it. The solos are too messy, good to hear them back, but they're not as good as past albums.

All you haters that reply with immature snotty remarks to every Metallica post give this site a terrible name. It's a great way to get recent news but I've given up on reading comments looking for insight on the article, pointless. By the way I think this is an immense release on the metal market today I don't expect 80's Metallica just love their music.

ok here it goes.......
melody wise the sound is very much like load-re-load era with every now and then in a song they jam and the riffs sounds like early stuff. (but thats like for few seconds in a eight minute long song)
Many a times while listening you'll get the feeling that they are just trying way to hard to sound like early days!!!
Album lacks energy most of the time and the only time it sounds better when they are jamming during a bridge or guitar solo bit.
they've made the songs long by just playin' mindless borin' intro's for like 2 minutes before the songs really kick in...
ADVICE: ONLY FOR THE HARDCORE FANATIC FANS who wouldn't mind listening to any shitty stuff put out by metallica!
I've already deleted my mp3s for this shitty album cos it's just so fkin' boring.....

slugs the ball out of the park this time.. Metallica's definitely never going to capture what they had with the first few albums. I think people expecting that are being ridiculous.
They're a different band, you need a different kind of hunger to achieve what Metallica did 25 years ago and to expect them to keep reaching back and doing that would grow old to them as musicians and proper proprietors of the music they create.
I personally find that Death Magnetic isn't even an album that grows onto you, it just hits you like a magnetic to metal (pardon the pun).
It's not Ride The Lightning and it sure as fuck isn't Master Of Puppets and I'm glad for that because I own both of those albums and don't need anything to rehash them. Death Magnetic is good for what I want out of the album and it's definitely worthy of a rating of 9.5/10 upon further listen.

What the fuck? Everyone seems to hate it? Have you heard or read any of the reviews? Listening to the bullshit from 111222, Peternorthsload, zimmzum and Metal Guru, all probably the same person by the way, doesn't help. This is their best album since Justice...easily. I completely agree with MrChris above, its a swift boot in the ass of an album. If Master of Puppets is a 12/10, then Death Magnetic can be a 9.5/10, just because I think Cyanide doesn't kick you in the ass as much as the others. Some of you kids don't know what the hell you're talking about....no riffs? Are you fucking deaf? Anyways, The Judas Kiss and Suicide and Redemption are some of the best songs I've heard in a long while.

I like it. Definitely better than st. anger. I don't agree with the kirk praise. Ever since the black album, he's turned into a blues and standard rock cliche guitarist. But that's just me. The cd is definitely a lot better than the last four albums. Also, no, it's not MOP, or anything from that genre. But for a radio band (which is what they are now), this is a decidedly more metal album than anything else from their radio friendly contemporaries.

Lombardo with Testament on The Gathering; now that was worth talking about.
On another note; what is the obsession with album sales & concert attendance figures lad?

It's better than the black album forward but not as good as the first four albums. It's just that simple. They gave (or will be) giving us a GOOD album. Get over it haters and fanboys. It's not the worst Metallica and it's not the best.
By far the most intelligent and simple "review" Ive read all damn day. Couldnt agree more dude. Excellent choice of words!

'Death Magnetic' is exactly what you expect it to be. 'Justice' style riff cramming through the 'Load' and 'St. Anger' filter. Its not bad, just different. Its like a 20 year class reunion. The faces are the same but...It is the most aggressive and ballsy thing they've released since The Black Album. Thats it though. The classic albums (first four) had that element of epic soundwriting. Death Magnetic is relentless (not counting Unforgiven III and Day That Never Comes - this albums Sanitarium/One), but certainly not better.
8/10 (B)

I'm starting to think that some of you who downloaded it illegally accidentally downloaded some old load crap because everything that I've heard, with the exception of a couple songs, has been rip your face in half metal, the metallica I grew up with. I haven't been this excited about a metallica album since I was waiting for TBA. Productions better that St Anger, Songs are way more brutal that Load/Reload, plus the vocals don't sound like load/reload or St Anger. The don't sound like the first 4 albums either. He's older so it's understandable. But I don't think he sounds bad at all. I think his vocals fit the songs very well. He's not trying to be melodic like in load which I found very gay. My only complaints are Kirk's solos (some of them just sound too sloppy), and the fact that they didn't use a click track to give it a looser feel. I don't like loose with Metallica, I like very thing to be tight. though, for the most part, I will say that everything does feel tight, but sometimes you can tell their timing is off. Other than that, I'd have to say this album is great. I think it's better than TBA and possibly better than AJFA. I want to give it more listens before I make up my mind. The one think I'm glad about is that I didn't have to let this album grow on me. I refused, the first time I heard load, to let it grow on me. A buddy of mine, who is a huge Metallica fan hated load when if first came out, so he listened to in non-stop for several days until he told me he was starting to like it. A metallica album shouldn't make you do that. From the first time you pop in a new Metallica album, it should kick your ass. You should want to do nothing but listen to it over and over again. Finally, I can say this about this new album. To the people who don't like this album: If you truely don't like the album then that's ok, but if your hell bent on hating this album just because you wanted to hate it, and listened to it only confirm your hatred, then maybe metal isn't your bag. Maybe you should take an interest in Kenny G or something.

I know a few local stores are going to sell out of copies for Death Magnetic within the first 3 days the album hits shelves.
Judging by some of the reviews posted by numerous magazines and such, This album is set to sell better than Load, ReLoad and St. Anger and is not an exaggeration when it's said to be the most anticipated album this band has released since And Justice For All.
Mission: Metallica digits to count towards sales and a good chunk of fans with access to the internet are using this to get copies of the album.
If anyone looks at Amazon.com or any surrounding sites, Death Magnetic is already climbing in ungodly #'s for an album that hasn't been officially released for sale. Those numbers to me would indicate people are ordering it from those sites in pretty high numbers.
If anyone truly think this album won't sell like a bat out of hell you're simply retarded but as I said before what does anyone care what the album sells?
If you like it? that's all that should matter to you no matter how blind you are on either side. Again, I love Death Magnetic from what I've been hearing of it and will be buying it first day and recommending it to people.
I hated St. Anger and still remain utterly shocked Metallica rdeemed themselves in a way such as this.

First off. I don't need a new Metallica album. This album is horrible and I'm not impressed at all. They're old, don't care anymore and definitely not "angry". When you are a millionaire. How can you be angry? You can't even sound angry!
James needs to quit trying to sing. You sound horrible. It's so hard to listen to Lars play so half assed. I think I'm going to go puke!

It's because they have pathetic lives and nothing else better to do. If they were so cool and awesome, they would be out in the real world being cool and awesome instead of anxiously waiting for a metallica article to pop up on blabbermouth so they can post their rehashed shit-talk and think they are kings of the metal world. Fuckin losers. Get lives or just die and stop wasting everybody elses air....fuckin douchebags.
And so unoriginal are these fuckin warts on the world's ass. Especially these two examples:
Metallica=parody of themselves....seriously, that's all you have to say?? and you say it a thousand times a day?? Get a life loser, or just fall of the face of the earth cause you're pretty much a worthless pile of dogshit
Lars=hair-loss.....another winner here. Constantly repeated like the latest popular piece of shit song on top 40 radio. Like everyone doesn't know the little danish midget is going bald. So fucking what??? Let's see how well your hairline is doing when you are in your 40's mr. hair club for men president and client. Again, come up with something different or go suck on the end of a shotgun that someone is about to pull the trigger on
Love or hate metallica, I could care less. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But to cosntantly repeat yourself like a fuckin parrot, you are a sad parody of your sad selves. Enjoy the rest of your unremarkable lives in your parents basement/garage/attic/toolshed.
p.s.....all the fanboys that post the same things over and over are just as equally annoying.

Load/re-load were intended to be a double album at first. It actually might have been better that way too. The could have put the more aggressive songs one one disc and the more mainstream bits on the other. Off course that's all backtalk :)
The S.t Anger bonus dvd does indeed have some more vibe in it With Rob playing the bass parts 'n all. Plus a closed open snare works much better for Ulrich (or metalica for that matter)
From the songs I've heard Death Magnetic once again proves that Rubin is master in bringing new live to artists.
I'm very curious how the new material will work in a live gig Because even though one may not agree with all the things the guys have done studiowise, Metallica very often still kicks the hineys of many-a-band half their age in a live situation
