METALLICA Deluxe Ticket Package Includes Copy Of 'Death Magnetic'

The Pulse of Radio reports: METALLICA is offering a "Death Magnetic Experience" pre-sale ticket package between now and September 13, the official general on-sale date for tickets to the band's upcoming North American tour. Members of the group's fan club have already had first crack at tickets, and now American Express cardholders will get their shot on Monday and Tuesday (September 8 and September 9), followed by a general public pre-sale on Wednesday (September 10). The package includes purchase of up to four tickets with better seating, a free download of the show you attend at LiveMetallica.com, and delivery "right to your door" of the band's new CD, "Death Magnetic". The pre-sale ends at midnight on September 12. METALLICA will kick off its first indoor North American tour on October 21 in Glendale, Arizona, with shows booked through the end of January. A statement by the band noted, "For each ticket you buy, you get a copy of the album. If you purchase four tickets, you get four copies of the CD. Don't need four copies? Give one to your friends, your mom, or a random dude on the street... just spread the new album to as many ears as possible." "Death Magnetic" arrives in stores on September 12. An undetermined number of copies of the CD were reportedly sold early by a French record store, with tracks from the album appearing online within a day.

However I WONT be buying it? Why? It makes Rush's Vapor Trails sound like it has dynamic range in comparison. In listening to the leak, I can tell that the released version will have clipping and distortion all over it (and Im not talking about the GOOD kind of distortion that METAL normally has!)

First of all, that's really cool, because I'm sure the tickets are going to be outrageously priced.
Second, it seems that between this announcement and Lars' saying publicly that he didn't care that it leaked, we're dealing with a different Metallica these days. They are really proud of this album (for good reason. It rocks) and they just want EVERYONE to hear it. Very cool.

they really topped up the levelers with loudness boosters on the drums. sounds like it's clipping and I'm sure it's not just a poor download, because I got about 6 different versions and they're all the same....and so is the official video and single.
although all the songs don't sound evenly mixed. A few songs, like Cyanide, sound better produced and mixed than the others.
Maybe it is just poorly ripped material by someone, but I doubt it after hearing the single officially released.

you know that metallica is NOT a thrash band right? they are a metal band. mid-tempo, with a few thrashy songs thrown in.
kill em all is just speed metal at best.. same for all the other stuff they released.
evile and warbringer are good thrash bands, but they mostly copy the 2nd wave of thrash out of the bay area. once you get the fact that metallica are a great METAL band, then you dont have to compare them to actual THRASH Bands.
death magnetic is an awesome METAL album. lots of riffs, changes, tempos. its not an out and out thrash release ya little puke.
and who cares they released a buncha crappy records in the 90's... they do what they want.. you didnt have to buy em.

I have to agree.
I'm listening to it now and I have to agree that it sounds...oddly produced. I am hoping it's cause I pulled a 103MB torrent of .mp3s and am listening thru computer speakers. I hope THAT is the problem. It's kinda static-y, like an EQ pushed too far up.
One one hand, they sound like a great Metallica cover band. On the Unforgiven 3, they go from that slow hard rock sound to a heavier hard rock sound (4 minute mark) to quick drums and flashy solos (5 minute mark). Three songs in one.
There are many sections where they re-hash their greatest moments (normally in the second half of the song). Drums and riffs that remind you of the good old days. The guitar solos are perfect. And some Iron Maiden twin lead riffs to boot. Go figure.
I was hopeful after St. Anger. Quick songs were a welcome change. (Although having false intros/endings and that horrible tin can snare drum just killed me). I thought having the ST/Infectious Grooves bassist would only improve the songs.
They had 14 extra songs after St. Anger. 4 years later, we get 10 new songs? They could've put out a double album in this amount of time.

I've hated Metallica since '91. I hated The black album because it was a watered down version of who they are as a result of seeking commercial acclaim. I can't blame them for making money. My question is, why did we have to wait 20 years for another thrash album?
With that said i am happy to announce, yet again, that Death Magnetic IS A GOOD ALBUM!. It's growing on me with every listen. The Day That Never Comes is Growing on me, but I the rest of the album is really good. It's a clear return to thrash which is something I never thought they'd be able to do again.
Opener 'That was just your life' is a favorite as well as 'Broken, Beat and Scarred' which has one of the most memorable riffs I've heard from Metallica in a long time. Album closer My Apocalypse is great song as well. You are all probably familiar with the album by now.
I am Happy to report that I like the entire Death Magnetic album after bashing them for 20 years. They got some respect back from me., not that my respect is any lofty goal. ....
I'm listen to 'All Nightmare long' right now..........now that's the Metallica I KNOW!
So in light of this great day, I promise to buy the CD and maybe even purchase a collectible in celebration of Metallica's return to thrash. I really can't believe I am actually enjoying a WHOLE New Metallica album!
Having said all this, I still stand by my previous statements that The Black Album, Load, Re-load and St. Anger suck! Each for their own reason. However, as an old fan I like Death Magnetic. Still, not a thrash classic or album of the year and certainly not the thrash album of the year, but absolutely the best Metallica in 20 years! Cheers guys!

Exactly. This is pretty fucked up, especially for a multi-million dollar, major label release. It sounds like ass. I dont like mp3s too much in the first place, but even alot of newer releases Ive heard sound miles ahead of this.
I will be doing a petition for them to remaster this, it sounds WORSE than Saint Anger as far as the clipping goes, and the bad screeching. It hurts my ears. Its a good album, but they need to go back and remaster it or even remix it. Its like Vapor Trails by Rush all over again. Fix the problems Metallica!
The "get rid of Bob Rock" petition works so i'll write one for this, unless someone already beat me to the punch.

the clipping is definitely horrible on this one. there's no way they didn't notice it, so why did they keep it like this? was this done on purpose?
I would sign a petition to hear this album re-mastered, or least hear an explanation as to the "loudness" boosts that make it clip. Some people say who cares about the sound quality....but seriously, sound quality IS important....i don't care who wants to say it's not.
this album is "distorted" because they mixed it too loud. Did they do that on purpose or not?? I'm curious because I think that's the only reason this album is ruined.

It's called the loudness wars, bloody record execs wan't the albums to be louder and louder all the time... Almost every album that is released these days suffers from horrible compression and clipping..
It's sad that every release these days sounds like shit!
Mastering engineers, bands and record execs need to pull their finger out... Who the fuck thinks this shit sounds good... IT'S DESTROYING MUSIC... ESPECIALLY METAL...
Not everything needs to sound like a bloody strapping young lad album...!!!
Porcupine tree seem to be the only band who give a toss about the final sound of their albums these days.... their albums have nice full sound with dynamic range...
Most other modern metal and rock albums are just a single constant noise.. with no dynamics, which can get awfully tedious to listen to...
GOD DAMMIT!

usually the loudness wars results in loss of dynamics because every instrument is brought up to the front of the track making everything kind of mess together.
however, I have never heard serious clipping and distorting on a professional album (especially on the drums and vocals) than I have on Death Magnetic. Even if dynamics are lost with "over production" and the loudness wars, how the hell did this get so screwed up?
I think Metallica is fucking with us. I think when Death Magnetic is actually released, it will have 10 completely different songs, produced properly. they've got to be pulling one over on us with this production.

Good to see someone else notices it. I put the mp3s into a DAW (Sonar 5) and found so much clipping it was SICK. I've heard a few other newer albums that have come out more recently like the new Opeth, Arch Enemy (ok a little older), Dragonforce, etc. Those don't clip to the extent this Metallica does (theyre loud but im not sure some of the tracks clip at all). Its one thing to get up to zero decibels in the wav form once in awhile, but when I looked at Death Magnetic songs on the DAW - it was FRIGHTENING. Clipping all over the place..like they're trying to be fucking Merzbow or something! Those Norwegian journalists mentioned a few years back are right..this is pretty fucked up. Also, some of my friends have heard songs on the radio (Day that never comes) and this is before I told them about all this they asked "is Lars using distortion effects on his drums"? Uh probably not, its just that they mastered the thing really shitty. I mean, Saint Anger doesn't even have the lack of dynamic range this album has, and thats REALLY saying something.
