METALLICA: Video Footage From 'The World Premiere Of Death Magnetic' Posted Online

METALLICA's official web site has been updated with video footage from the September 4, 2008 special "Metallica: The World Premiere Of Death Magnetic" hosted by FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins and broadcast live from METALLICA's headquarters in San Rafael, California. The 60-minute program, which aired on stations across the country, featured James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo giving fans an exclusive look at "Death Magnetic". METALLICA's official web site is currently streaming no less than six full songs from the band's forthcoming "Death Magnetic" album. The tracks, which were all premiered during "Metallica: The World Premiere Of Death Magnetic", are as follows: * "The Day That Never Comes"* "My Apocalypse"* "Cyanide"* "All Nightmare Long"* "Broken, Beat & Scarred"* "The Judas Kiss"Several copies of "Death Magnetic" were sold early at a Paris record store on Tuesday (September 2), which led to the entire album being leaked online within hours. Due on September 12, "Death Magnetic" will also be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock the same day that the record is released. METALLICA will play two low-dough shows in Europe to celebrate the CD's release, in Berlin on September 12 and London on September 15. Tickets for both are priced under $20 and open to fan club members only. The band will kick off its first indoor North American tour on October 21 in Glendale, Arizona, with shows booked through the end of January.

jesus . now there is to much praise for new metallica album. yes some of it is good, but some of it is shit. it is now were near as good puppets..lighning.justice. black. those were the metallica days. metallica have proved ther back with a vengance .but only just slighty. its not the fuckin comer back of the decade. that belongs 2 slayer. and machine head. metallica still have a long way to compete with that

Newsflash: WHO REALLY GIVES A RATS ASS ABOUT YOUR MUSICAL "EXPERTISE" ON SOUND??! Hmmmm? Hmmm? Thought so. And did you also take note that the quote/unquote clipping could be do the fact that it's the desired sound the band is looking for?! Oh, no? You forgot to think about that didn't you? And the fact that that version you illegally downloaded to your computer (which unless you plan on buying it on Friday, forever labels you and all your online butt pirates as nothing short of worthless....) may not even be the real version. Hey if Green Day can fool everyone with their whole "Foxboro Hot Tubs" why couldn't Metallica put out a CD the figured would get leaked early? Not saying they did, but you get my drift....
And finally, regardless of what you Metallica bashers keep on spewing out of you cock holsters, METALLICA is back...period. Take a listen to IMO the best song on the album....(that is until I hear the other 4 songs next Friday) "Broken, Beat and Scarred"...

This song fucking rocks, and I love how James basically gives a big FUCK YOU to all the bashers out there...the fans that decided they became to soft on St.Anger and their documentary "some kind of monster"... he says that they showed their scars, they reached the top, fell, and are now back on top again... and what could have killed them, in fact made them more strong. And I'm sorry to disappoint all you fucks out there who are claiming these other bands (AC/DC, Machine Head, and Slayer ect......???!!!) are you fucking kidding me??! AC/DC is a joke, they keep playing the same shit over and over, so does Machine Head, and if you think you can convince me that Slayer is fresh and "The Gods of Metal" and have reinvented metal....please tell me what your smoking cause that must be some damn good shit.....
This album is just a taste of whats to come from this band...they'll be free from Warner Bros and will probably release their own independent label to release music. That and the fact, that, there are at least 4 more songs which couldn't be included on this record... something tells me that new Metallica tunes won't be that far away ;)

And to all the Metallica fans, new and old: "Metal Up Your Ass!!!!"
Oh and just think what the release of "Death Magnetic" to Guitar Hero will do for the future of music? Good things, good things.

just to clarify, I never said that Metallica wasn't purposely trying to "clip" and 'distort" their album. That's quite possible especially after hearing St. Anger.
But, I'd like to think that it's a farse that they're fucking with us for downloading it and that the real copy will actually sound half listenable.
i just want to know why it's so fucked up in it's current form. It sounds like ass. Hopefully these "leaked" copies aren't anything like the real one. Hopefully they are fucking with us.

The songs on the DM are better than St.Anger that is for sure.
The Post-Production Mastering is AWEFUL and probably the worst in history now. This title used to belong to Rush when they released Vapor Trails. It was highly criticized for the same cliping/distortion reasons.
It is important to understand that the RMS level on DM is -5.1 . This is very unheard of. What this means is that 5 db is the maximum difference between the loudest and quietest sound. The provides for no audible dynamics within the song. Its actually quite difficult to achieve -5. The only way to do this is to throw heavy compressor/limiters on the individual tracks while mixing it down. Then do the same to the entire mix. Generally its difficult to achieve an RMS of less than -12. Theres no way to do this without introducing artifacts like clipping and crushed drums. Just for reference, the RMS of MOP is -14.7

we can sit here all day and compare this to the rest of Metallica's work. the REAL question is that does it do well on it's own merit? after hearing 6 of the 10 songs that are supposed to be on the album, i have to say YES! this album is shaping up to be exactly what i've been saying the whole time. it will be a GOOD album. not a GREAT album. but a DAMN GOOD album.

haha whatever douch wrote that for the official website is fucking Hilarious. Regardless, I like about 3 out of 6 songs that have been released so far (especially "Broken Beat and Scarred"). I'll be the first to say that these boys have disappointed the fuck out of me for the last 18 years or so, but fuck man, this new shit if hotfire. Theres something about James' lyric, "what dont kill you, make you more strong," that really rings true. If there has been one person that ive been extremely critical of all this time its been James, but he reallly has been trying to come through for us fans. Im not gonna sit here and say that its been the greatest album from them since ...Justice, but its pretty good in terms of their last 4 efforts. I dont know man, they just seem to have finally picked up their old torch, dusted it off, and said, "oh yeah, I used to carry this thing all over the world, maybe I should do it again...."

I think the Metallica album is awesome, I have to be honest, it's sounds even better on a good stereo. I hate the way computer speakers sound. I downloaded my shit through missionmetallica.com so I know I got the real deal.
As far as CC goes, where is he now? Doing another reality show?
he's such a great guitarist yet he's doing shows like that celebrity has been show on vh1.. what's it called... Glam Rock Is DEAD!!!!

Man, acdc's new song sounds exactly the same as every other acdc song. To deny that is fuckin ridiculous. To say metallica are back is silly, they never went away. With heavy music its all about the live act, i've seen metallica loads of times live and even the st anger stuff sounds good! So fuck the haters, fuk em all!! METALLICA = The PLATINUM standard!!!!!!

your fucking killing me man. I've seriously been in stitches watching you try to prove C.C. Deville is a more "technical" guitarist than Kirk. I can play EVERY solo off of Look What the Cat dragged in. I was FORCED to play them when my old band played a joke gig for a friends birthday, so I know I can do this. I learned the tabs, learned the solos, and got especially drunk for the occasion just so I could nail them more authentically. I have no physical proof of this unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) but trust me on this...compared to anything Kirk played on Master of Puppets, C.C. is a breeze. Also, Dokken is not a glam band. Hair metal? Sure, but when I think glam I think 70's glitter bands and Poison. Dokken actually had talent and Lynch IS a better guitarist than Hammett, but that is because he is a fucking virtuoso. Also, Metallica, at their very lowest most dispicable point had better music than Poison.

Anyone who is critiquing the production on this after downloading a "ripped" copy, is a fucking idiot. Don't ever judge until you get cd in hand, put it in your cd player and listen through "studio quality" monitors. Then you can probably throw in some critique. Until then, stfu about the way the your "illegally downloaded" copy sounds.

he's not more technical, he's more drunk and sloppy. I've watched your videos as much as it has pained me to do so. I now know that Mr. Deville has a serious problem and needs to seek treatment...probably from someone like John Petrucci who can show him how to actually play a guitar. Now, lets look at riffs. C.C. can't write a decent riff to save his life. The man really should just give up guitar. First year guitar students could muster the know-how and learn the man's solos and riffs.

Not technically good but I like what they write, even though I don't like Poison I do like their solos.
Petrucci is a technical monster, absolutely perfect but his music bores me to death.
Technique is nothing more than a tool, it's what you do with it that counts, songwriting.
The new Metallica fucking sucks btw.

First, what you hear is your business, and I couldn't care less if you hear country, reggaeton, whatever floats your boat (Actually, reggaeton kind of super-sucks, but that's only my opinion. Sorry... :P ) Just don't put it in my personal player.
This recording has been hyped to death, even the NY times had a ridiculous article about it. Be honest with yourselves... this is NOT going back to their roots, this is trying hard to sound a little bit like the past. There's no energy, the songs are indeed long, but not only due to "complexity," but rather because they are too SLOW. There's some creativity; however, it just becomes too plodding to my ears at times.
Feel free to Thrash me, but probably you won't, because you don't Thrash; you are a Metallica fan. Which is ok, you don't have to Thrash. Feel free to enjoy this rather slow and boring kind of metal. Perhaps not totally bad, if you are open to all sorts of metal. But it's just not Thrashy enough for me. It's sad how Evile, who used to be a Metallica cover band, totally slays Metallica. :P Nothing personal, but these guys lack energy and speed. It's not only age, they just sound pretty dull in this recording. The ballad sucked (well, I didn't even like One too much, as for me it was the worst song from AJFA, so you can imagine from where I am coming from) and the instrumental song was... incredibly boring to me.
Thrash was always around, but I feel the need to say "THRASHERS UNITE!! Scream with Me!! THRASH IS BACK!"
The reason I am not deceived by Death Magnetic and the press hype is that I've been hearing fine examples of True Thrash, and IMHO, Metallica just cannot compete. Most every Thrash drummer eats Lars alive (well, no big feat- I just feel he is rather uninspiring and bland.) Their early records were very good, as we all know. But DM is not a return to anything REALLY 80's. For that, listen to the new generation of young Thrashers.
Now, don't bash Thrash, because I am just saying "Metallica is boring to me". It's my take. Not necessarily yours. I couldn't care less what you think about Thrash, I will keep listening to it, and will not blind myself to the truth (my truth): Metallica is a band of the past, that cannot compete with the new Thrash generation. My money will go to support Thrash! Not Metallica, the uber rich "Gold Standard" to some of you. (Yes, GOLD standard, as in selling out. Sorry... too bad it's true.)
Peace, I don't really care what you listen too, have fun with it. Just don't bother me with silly comments berating Thrash, because not only it is a valid musical taste, it is also an amazing musical and artistic expression. Metallica loves Thrash too, they just cannot go back to it, for reasons beyond the scope of this simple post. Again, hear whatever floats your boat, make them richer if you will enjoy yourself. I certainly won't.
