YNGWIE MALMSTEEN: New Album Artwork Revealed
- Sep. 8, 2008
|
|
The cover artwork for legendary Swedish guitarist YNGWIE MALMSTEEN's new studio album, "Perpetual Flame", can be viewed below. Due on October 14, the CD will be the first-ever Yngwie effort to be released via Rising Force Records (distributed via Koch) and it will mark the debut of Malmsteen's new singer, ex- JUDAS PRIEST/ ICED EARTH frontman Tim "Ripper" Owens. Featuring twelve tracks of "pure six-string metallic bliss" (which stretches to almost 70 minutes total), the album was produced and engineered by Yngwie himself, and mixed by Roy Z (who has previously worked with JUDAS PRIEST and BRUCE DICKINSON, among others). Joining Yngwie and Ripper on the album are keyboardist Derek Sherinian and drummer Patrick Johansson ( Yngwie contributed bass, additional keyboards, and vocals, as well), but on tour, Michael Troy will supply keyboards, and Bjorn Englen will be laying down the bass. A supporting tour of the U.S. and Canada is slated to run through all of October. In addition to the arrival of "Perpetual Flame" in October, another career highlight is slated for that same month — Yngwie will be inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk on Monday, October 13 in Los Angeles. A new Fender/ Yngwie Malmsteen custom shop guitar will also be unveiled on November 28 (with a limited run of 100 instruments) and there will be a slew of CD reissues of Yngwie classics to soon be announced. I can't imagine this album is any good outside of Ripper's contributions. Even with that, there's no way in Hell that I would buy this or any of this noodlers crappy excuses for metal.
This cover looks like one of those Vegas ads for The Thunder Down Under. It's also funny that he's plugged-in with his wireless in tow. He must pay his people pretty well. I mean, who else but a well paid tool would put up with this level of ego-mania.

JIMI influenced me to dig blues, dig fenders, dig marshalls, dig african american music of multiple genres ....
EVH influenced me to dig great tone, great songs intertwined with great musicianship and rock that wasn't angst driven.
YNGWIE influenced me to avoid guys who can play like a mofo, but wrap it in shit songs, shit bands, with a side plate of wanker ..

bad decision by the Yngwie publicity department (that is if he himself isn't that department). Very dated and lame album looking cover of Yngwie that is either way photshopped or 10 years old. He has lost some weight...but not this much. Either way having yourself on the album cover pouting went out with the 80s. I know Yngwie is stuck in a style and time warp...that's part of the reason I like him, but c'mon...someone should have told him how cliche that album cover is.

And on that note - Why does Bret Michaels make getting a decent looking wig or hair extensions look so hard?? lol Take notes here Bret. lol

what is it with his album covers? Unleash The Fury and Attack had bad covers but this takes it to a new level.
I'm sure there will be atleast a few good songs and good solos on it but I'd be shocked if it's another Marching Out, Trilogy, Odyssey or even Facing The Animal. Ripper is a great singer though.

I like the band logo, the black-grey background, I definitely like the basic idea of the cover with the flame burning on the fret hand, I also like the pose...but the picture of Yngwie itself is too studio-like to fit in a graphical background and definitely too photoshopped-looking. Maybe the picture of Yngwie should have been rendered somehow to make him become more part of the entire picture, now he looks like he's been dropped to somewhere where he doesn't belong to. Or a genuine picture of Yngwie portraying him in a real environment, mroe in the vein of Marching Out and Facing The Animal. I mean, if the album title hints at something from the world of fantasy, why didn't they do a decent cover like Trilogy, Eclipse, Seventh Sign or Magnum Opus?

...but hell, the music will make all the difference. The album cover (which only portrays the key artist with just a small detail related to the album theme) is not as important as the music itself. The best albums in the world have great music supported by a strongly theme-related cover artwork.
I'm very interested of what kind of music this album has. The vocalist is a killer as well as the current band. Maybe we get a killer album with a poor album cover.

I think this is the last album Ripper will play on, and come to think of it, I won't even bother buying this album, I prefer spending my money on the new Metallica and the next Exodus album, Yngwie's too much of an egotistical idiot, no way in hell I'm buying this if this is the final cover...

I have my negative thoughts about this album cover, they could have done a better job - the idea and setting are good, but Yngwie looks too polished and most definitely younger and more fit than in reality - but then again I feel that people would still waste their time laughing at Yngwie, no matter what kind the cover is.
I'm anxious to hear new music from Yngwie, 14 years of fanship, all the albums, 2 live concerts. Fuck the cover, this is about music. Yngwie has always made albums as his own channel of expression and succeeded well, not to mention the great musicians around him.

Decides not to be a one man show is when he will no longer suck like he has since Facing the Animal.
What's really pathetic is that he doesn't even know how cheesy he is: He doesn't surf the net and doesn't listen to any current music. And he must have management that tells him he's the cats ass.
Sad.

I saw this and laughed like I hadn't in a long time. Man, I was not prepared! I love Yngwie and respect him tremendously as a guitarist. Those who say speed isn't important, it's all about feeling usually say that because they can only play slow and want to make out that they are good even though they could only dream of touching the fast players. It's funny that Yngwie plays with more feeling that 99.99% of his critics, no matter how slow (wow! he's slow. But he means it!) they play! Now, I love slow, tasteful solos done by the masters like Blackmore, but he's one out of ten thousand. If you're not Blackmore and don't have his touch, then you can't play like Yngwie because he's better than you are. And yes, I play guitar, and no, I could never touch Yngwie. It's not because I have more feeling. It's because Yngwie is a rare genius and I suck compared to him. I don't mind admitting it. Back to the cover, it's beyond horrible and I hope it's a joke. But I am very excited about the collaboration with Owens and will buy the new one. Though I'll have to fold over the cover or something - yucch! What idiot came up with this idea? If it was Yngwie himself, then he's an idiot for it! But still one of the greatest musicians ever.

Gooq Question....
Because he has a sound that he is going for, a power metal sound that many others achieve and do VERY well.
So he struggles with his singers, the song writing, lyrics, and especially the production - and he always falls short - Then he looks back with dislike for his albums.
If he knew what quality standards other bands in his genre adhere too - maybe he wouldn't be such a fucking slacker in every department.

To me this man is ridiculous. Imagewise, he and Ripper stick like water and oil, I couldn´t care less: a sorry sight and a man with an unlucky career (let´s see how long he lasts with YJM). The best for him: revamp Beyond Fear, you´ll have no FEAR there of being expelled from a band (good point hhaahahaa).
