Former Manager Says NIRVANA Was Changed By Arrival Of COURTNEY LOVE
- Sep. 9, 2008
|
|
|
The Pulse of Radio reports: NIRVANA's former manager says in his upcoming memoir that the arrival of Courtney Love in late frontman Kurt Cobain's life changed the band forever, according to an excerpt posted at Spinner.com. In his book, "Bumping Into Geniuses: My Life Inside the Rock and Roll Business", former record label exec and artist manager Danny Goldberg writes, "Courtney's very presence was a metaphor for the end of one era in the band's life and the beginning of another," adding that Love became Cobain's "mouthpiece" shortly after the two became a couple.
Goldberg says he was initially "charmed" by Love, but soon became aware that she had "numerous personae she could call up at will, and this would be the last time I would ever see Courtney as an underdog."
The manager recounts one incident in January of 1992 when Love called him up and asked for $5,000 in cash, so that the couple could go "shopping." He writes, "I felt pretty uncomfortable as I delivered the package of $100 bills to her at the hotel. Abruptly, the dark cloud of drug excess had entered the band's life. I was confronted by the baroque facade of lies and the awful glassy-eyed deadness that regular heroin use provides."
Cobain and Love got married in early 1992 and had one daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. The singer and guitarist shot himself to death in April 1994.
Their relationship has been the subject of speculation for years, with one documentary, "Kurt and Courtney", even investigating the rumors that Love had Cobain killed.
"Bumping Into Geniuses" will be published on September 18.

let's get real. cobain let it happen. people blame courtney for the whole thing but cobain made the choice to let her interfere. just as lennon did with yoko.
place the blame where it lies...cobain and lennon.
sure, courtney is a douchebag and i despise nirvana as much as the next guy, but the blame doesn't lie with her stank ass.

Yoko ruined the Beatles? Courtney ruined Nirvana? Ha ha.. that is so funny. Today we understand a thing called "personal responsibility." Kurt and John, while very talented, were both weak-minded individuals, and they alone are responsible for their actions. Quit blaming other people and face reality.

if the argument is that the individual is weak minded, perhaps they weren't strong enough to take that action on their own.......nonetheless while blame will go around, and faults will lay with the kurt, there is no denying that courtney bullied her way into the situaiton........
your argument that if the manipulator(courtney) is smart enough to know that she can control kurt to a degree, then that's ok???
bs.........the fault lays more in the hands of those who "know exactly what they are doing"............courtney knew.......kurt well, he knew, but he was weak in a sense.....so it's not entirely his fault, and moreso the blame of the person who knows more....
can one blame a child, for what an adult does to them?
not everyone is workign on the same plain......and those who use that argument are most likely ones who would want o manipulate another.....
there is specualtion that kurt actually intended on divorcing courtney, and not quit music or his life........and that the "note by kurt" was edited....

Anybody who looks at the facts has to suspect that Kurt Cobain was killed. If you look at some of his last performances, they are some of the strongest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X7lmsqUpVg), and anybody that does heroin passes out often with the needle in the arm, nevermind being able to put it away. Kurt Cobain was his healthiest when he died - couldn't stand a triple lethal dose
Doesn't add up

this story is here so that you can complain about it.
you see, there's an intelligent design behind all of this, from the very first journalist overrating cobain, through his success and then bad relationships and suicides and books and gossips, to this thread so that you could be busy posting here. Years will pass and you will eventually understand that if it wasn't for all this unpredictable chains of apparently unrelated events, the fabric of our universe would have been torn apart!
so thanks for letting your fate unfold itself like it should!

on the movie "About a son" and he doesn't sound suicidal at all. He says in one of the last snippets that he always jokes about doing it but when it comes down to it, he couldn't do it cause he saw himself as too big of a pussy. He didn't wanna be in Nirvana any longer, but he didn't wanna kill himself. Most of his close friends said that he was looking forward to starting another band. Dave and Krist had already started preparing themselves for it. "Time off" is how they referred to it.

Case of Seattle Police not wanting to reopen the case because the ultimate determination will make them look very lazy, initially. It was automatically written off as another junkie who overdosed and was almost an after though.
Looking back at all the evidence now, in my opinion, there is at least enough evidence to reopen the case. Cobain was about to leave Love and the band, hence the "Dear John" letter that had some added dialogue by someone (different writting), to make it look like a suicide note.
By the way, the guy who knew the most about Love's possible involvement, was found dead on the train tracks in Washington a short time later, somehow hit by a train.
That happens everyday you know, getting hit by a train.
If it interests you, read the book Love & Death by Max Wallace. It breaks down the entire timeline and is very compelling.
I'm not much into conspiracy theories, but after reading this book, I'm certain she had a master plan.

You can't blame a child for what an adult does to them... but last time I looked Kurt was over 18. If you say he was like a child, then weak-minded is an acurate description of him. I dated women like Courtney. Do I go through life blaming them or do I say that I let it happen and move on? I choose to move on.
As for suicide, I have a friend that didn't know he was suicidal until he woke up from a blackout with a shotgun in his mouth. Kurt probably never even knew that he shot himself because he was so stoned. Blackout drinkers take note. :)

The impact this band had on popular music ALONE puts them in the history books. They led the movement.
The impact they had on youth of the 90's will keep them in the minds of those who saw it first hand.
As for today's world, who the fuck is going to remember the hacks of today? Don't even kid yourself. There is a reason most kids today listen to rap/hip hop.

Nirvana completely changed the landscape of music with ONE song. I don't know if you were alive, 5, or sucking some guys balls in 1991. But if you were there, you can't deny the power of that Cobain's music. May not be your style, but "most overated musician ever?"
If that were the case, I highly doubt we would still be talking about him 14 years after his death.

She was barely recognizable....she either got some really bad plastic surgery or she is still tweekin balls. Either way she is done. She will be the next Anna Nicole watch. I don't know. It seems too fuckin trendy to bash on Courtney, when it's kurt's fucking choice to start down the path in the first place.
Honestly, I don't know her, I don't know the facts (which are undoubtedly going to be distorted beyond recognition due to the people/scene involved) And it's all fucking over already... so I'm not going to judge. I honestly hope people will just let it go, courtney will clean up, and Francis grows up to be beyond the obvious emotional disorders that both her parents have.

If Yoko didn't come along, John probably wouldn't have written "Imagine". It was destiny and it was right.

Responsibility, personal and social, is a complicated matter. Its easy enough to place blame squarely on one person's shoulders, but the truth is that we're all connected and all responsible for one another in various ways. Kurt was more sensitive than (probably) any of us can realistically conceptualize. Courtney exploited this "weakness", but, then, she had issues of her own. We can judge them from a safe distance, or try to understand the web of causality in which they were both ensnared. For one thing, it makes no sense to blame Kurt for "abandoning" Frances, when you understand and empahtize with his condition. It is enough to accept the FACT that he believed Frances would be better off without him. Whether or not that is the case is irrellevant, and all objective considerations are irrellevant, if you can simply acknowledge and accept the overwhelming evidence of subjective experiences and beliefs. Regardless of the consequences of his action, we must consider the causes of it, if we are to judge the man fairly. I think that, if you see it clearly, you can't help but feel compassion for this man, and for Courtney, too, whether or not she had an intentional hand in his death. It is worth reflecting on the nature of consciousness. A fully conscious (and, therefor, fully responsible) human being is in a condition known as enlightenment. The rest of us are operating from various levels of consciousness (and responsibility). This is the meaning of the words attributed to Jesus, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do." Love is an adjunct of consciousness, so, it is impossible to consciously behave unlovingly. As Jean-Paul Sartre writes: "A man cannot knowingly commit evil. In order for me to do that which is evil for me, I must simultaneously approve and disapprove of an action. This is absurd." If Courtney did kill him (or have him killed), then she is all the more deserving of our sympathy and our prayers. "For the well need not a physician, but them that are sick."
