Killer Who Claims He Was Influenced By METALLICA Song Seeks New Trial - Sep. 9, 2008
According to PhillyBurbs.com, the New Jersey man who killed his mother and then stabbed an 11-year-old boy to death claiming that he was influenced by a METALLICA song about a boy who "lost my way this bloody day" when he committed the crime is asking the court to throw out the 2004 guilty plea that sent him to prison for 50 years.

Ronald Pituch, 33, was in Superior Court yesterday for a status hearing on an application he filed himself from New Jersey State Prison, where he is serving a term that would keep him behind bars until he is at least 76 years old.

Pituch claims he did not "know the full extent of my guilty plea" due to what he said was excessive medication for a psychiatric disorder. He is a paranoid schizophrenic who, at the time of his killing spree, refused to take his medication, according to family members.

At his January 2005 sentencing, Pituch told the court that he thought the METALLICA song "Ronnie" had been directed at him. The song tells of a boy who "never laughed, never smiled, talked alone for miles and miles and miles."

In the song, nothing happens in a quiet town until Ronnie pulls a gun, and the children "all fall down, down, down."

Family members said Pituch had stopped taking his medication in the days before the killings, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

A day before the killings, Pituch called Nikki Roberts, an Evesham resident who years earlier was a classmate of his at Shawnee High School in Medford.

He became angry and asked whether she was a METALLICA fan.

"I don't know what all this [expletive] means," he told her. "I must be the son of Satan or something."

IT'S NOT THE MUSIC!!! It makes me mad as hell when people blame music for a murder or a suicide. The ones that commit these acts have mental problems to begin with. It's stated that this fool didn't take his medication. IT'S NOT THE MUSIC!!! I've been a METALHEAD since I was 8 years old and have never had the urge to kill another person OR commit suicide. IT'S NOT THE MUSIC!!!

Okay, how come we NEVER, EVER hear about a crime commited where the influence is some other musical genre?

Time for us to rise up, kill some kittens, and claim that it was a Hilary Duff song that made us do it. All the while wearing a Mariah Carey T-shirt.

Plus how many Gs been gunned down? Any rap songs playing in someone's head?

Metallica inspires me too! Mostly musically these days! I'm in recovery for drugs/alcohol and it was really inspiring to see James get his life together. It toook balls for him to let the cameras capture his recovery process during the recording of St. Anger to the extent they did. SO I guess ya could say that inspired me as well. Fuck this scum bag. Yeah, I understand that he was a paranoid schizophrenic and he stopped taking his happy pills before the murder of his mother and the 11 year old boy but that's still no excuse. It's a shame that he'll sit in pirson for the rest of his life meanwhile two families lives have been changed forever because of this sick lunatic. And to blame it on a Metallica song. What year are we living in? He could've at least picked "Better by you Better than me" by Judas Priest and then at least he would've taken himself out.

if every song that had dark lyrics about murder or brutality was directed at a real person, we would be in a shit load of trouble as a human race (not that we aren't already).

But at least it's psychotics and not the government anymore(Washing ton Wives) who are making ridiculous claims against heavy music.

The song's actually about a high school shooting in Washington State in the early 1990s... the media also tried to find some connection between the song and Columbine.

If the media is going to go all out and try and find ANY possible connection, they need to spend that time on something more productive. Like the people in this world that do great things and never get recognized for it.

I had a brother that was a skitsz he wasnt violent and a hell of a musician he could pick up any instrument and play it without ever having any lesson he was crazy but gifted by god and the meds they were a joke they give him speeders in the morning and downers in the everning I blame the doctors for missing the violent rage that this guy had within him I think the doctors should be charged with something for the neglect of institutionalizing this guy he was a danger to society. I feel sorry for the families I think doctors that treat patients for this disorder should have more schooling to try to tell the violent people from the ones who arent and do more than just dope them up with meds and turning them loose in society

the reason why they say that is because the killer himself claimed he was influenced by the song

It doesn't matter if the killer OR the media blame the music. IT'S NOT THE MUSIC!!! If someone is so weak minded and lacking self-confidence that a song can drive them to commit an extreme act such as murder, they have mental issues to begin with. Deal with the individual person's mental health and stop blaming outside sources like music. IT'S NOT THE FUCKEN MUSIC!!!
