CELTIC FROST Laid To Rest For Good - Sep. 9, 2008
Martin Eric Ain and Tom Gabriel Fischer of the Swiss avant-garde/metal pioneers CELTIC FROST have issued the following statement:

"In the wake of the events transpiring earlier this year, we, who together formed CELTIC FROST in 1984 and together reformed the group in 2001, have discussed the situation and agree that any continuation of CELTIC FROST without either one of us would be irreconcilable with our original ideas and detrimental to the group's legacy. We have therefore jointly decided to lay CELTIC FROST to rest for good and to treasure and honor what we have created together in the course of the history of this truly unique band. All that is left to do now is to bow our heads in sincere gratitude and pay respect to CELTIC FROST's audiences and friends who have made this group's existence possible in the first place."

Fischer announced his departure from CELTIC FROST in April, citing "the irresolvable, severe erosion of the personal basis so urgently required to collaborate within a band so unique, volatile, and ambitious."

It was reported earlier in the year that CELTIC FROST was putting together an album tentatively titled "Monotheist Companion" that will feature unreleased songs from 2006's "Monotheist" sessions and rearrangements of tracks from the album.

Fischer has launched a new project called TRIPTYKON, also featuring Reed St. Mark (ex-CELTIC FROST), V. Santura (DARK FORTRESS) and Vanja Slay. The first audio sample, a track called "Cucifixus", can be heard on TRIPTYKON's official MySpace page.

Commented Fischer: "TRIPTYKON will sound as close to CELTIC FROST as is humanly possible, and the album I am working on will feature all the material I envisioned for the successor to [CELTIC FROST's] 'Monotheist'. I desire the album to be a darker, heavier, and slightly more experimental development of 'Monotheist'.

"'Cucifixus' is but one of many compositions to that end. TRIPTYKON is not defined by just this one song, however, just like CELTIC FROST was not defined by 'Totengott' alone."

Because they are one of the most important metal bands in the history of the music itself, but honestly, sometimes they act like they are the greatest band EVER, and I am sorry, in the long run, yeah they will be missed, but is anyone really going to suffer greatly if there is not a Celtic Frost?

I mean, if Led Zep was actually getting back together, or Ozzy was going to be touring with Sabbath and putting out an album, then I would care... but didn't give us the same thing over 3 months ago?

Once again, not bashing, just tired of Fisher acting like this is a life-altering event for EVERYONE with these press releases. I will miss them, but I am excited about Triptykon, and want to hear more about that.

I don't know why people always say that. Cold Lake is a real good record in a less than good visual package.

I was into Hellhammer when they came out. Then Celtic Frost formed and put out the legendary Morbid Tales. When they reformed I was very unsure about this, but then Monotheist came out. I have been a Frost fan from the beginning and in my opinion Monotheist was their most brilliant album. On one hand I would have liked to have heard a new Frost album just to see if they could have topped it, then again we could have had another turd like Cold Lake. At least they went out with a great album, maybe it is time to move on and leave it on a high note.

I thought Monotheist was an amazing record and I love the first few records. Celtic Frost along with Hellhammer is no doubt one of the most influential metal bands ever. Its sad that they're gone again. Glad that at least I got to see them on the Monotheist tour. One of the best show's I've ever seen.

Looking forward to hearing more from Tryptykon.

but how about putting petty bullshit aside & working like professionals? Martin & Thomas are still acting like moody teenagers. since you two cannot grow up & act like mature men, i guess it's good that CF has come to an end. now stop talking about it & just let the band (& my respect for it) die already.

Oh Tom Gabriel Fischer seriously needs to get with his publishing company and re-release his autobiography. I'm not paying the prices on amazon or ebay for a used copy.
