METALLICA's 'Death Magnetic' Arrives In UK Early? - Sep. 10, 2008
According to various online reports (including fan accounts on METALLICA's official message board), several UK retailers — including HMV and Zavvi — have begun selling METALLICA's new album, "Death Magnetic", ahead of its September 12 official worldwide release date — presumably in response to the fact that the album was leaked in its entirety last week. HMV, which currently owns over 50% of the music retail market in the UK, reportedly has the CD on sale for £9.99 (approximately $20).

METALLICA's official web site is currently streaming no less than six full songs from the band's forthcoming "Death Magnetic" album. The tracks, which were all premiered during last week's "Metallica: The World Premiere Of Death Magnetic", hosted by FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins and broadcast live from METALLICA's headquarters in San Rafael, California, are as follows:

* "The Day That Never Comes"
* "My Apocalypse"
* "Cyanide"
* "All Nightmare Long"
* "Broken, Beat & Scarred"
* "The Judas Kiss"

Several copies of "Death Magnetic" were sold early at a Paris record store on September 2, which led to the entire album being leaked online within hours.

Due on September 12, "Death Magnetic" will also be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock the same day that the record is released.

METALLICA will play two low-dough shows in Europe to celebrate the CD's release, in Berlin on September 12 and London on September 15. Tickets for both are priced under $20 and open to fan club members only.

The band will kick off its first indoor North American tour on October 21 in Glendale, Arizona, with shows booked through the end of January.

HMV is definately selling early. I was in town today and noticed the signs up (home made signs written in marker pen) to say they had it for sale.

Not sure about Zavvi as I never went into it.

To be honest I do not like what I have heard from the album so doubt I will be buying it. Seems to be the usual of them saying they are going back to their roots when in reality it sounds nothing like it. They said the same about St Anger and no doubt will say the same about the next album.

I`d written Metallica off, haven`t liked anything by them at all since the Black album and haven`t *really* liked anything since Justice but this has pleasantly surprised me. It`s no golden classic or anyhting but it`s a good metal album and one I`ve pre-ordered. There`s life in the old dogs yet!

Can everyone just download it and realise its shit already and get this shit off the news bulletins! I wanna hear about real, good bands. I love Metallica but they're past it and I'd rather they, as a band, had an honourable death now(or 18 years ago preferrably) with a good back catalogue than watch them deteriorate even more and live on for the next 30 years producing awful albums.

What's the difference between my opinion and yours? Not a damn thing. With the exception that I don't shoving my negative opinions into threads of bands I don't like. I just IGNORE the topic altogether.

not sure if you got my reply to your question. I agree with Coffinworm. Cavalera Conspiracy's Inflikted is engineered to perfection. A metal production doesn't get any better than that.

Also Dimmu always has good production. The Black album had good engineering. New Volbeat has wicked sound too. Too many to mention here.

Been a fan since I first heard Leper Messiah back in '86. The 'Master' album took my music listening to a new heavy, and the 'Justice' album (guitar and drumwise) influenced my playing big-time. Because of Metallica, I got into Motorhead, Slayer, Kreator, Coroner, Carcass, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, Terrorizer, etc.

Was I disappointed when that Black album came out? Yes. But I understood where they were going. Did I agree with it? No. Nothing released from them over the past 20 years impressed me, but I still bougtht their albums. After-all, these guys were HUGE to me in my musical growing up and playing, so I was always curious.

Then along came Death Magnetic. I've heard it, and am quite impressed. To me, this is the follow-up to 'And Justice For All', and I'm glad they finally got around to putting it out.

yes, i even bought the last 3, i liked load, and st anger, although reload is pretty much unlistenable except 2 / 3 songs. obvisiously love the first 4, blacks good too.

i've listened to the download of DM about 10 times, i'm just not getting it, no memorable hooks or chorus's, kirks solos are shit, i like about 3 songs on the album. i don't like the name, and the artwork is pretty lame...

But I still don't know, where to place this album within the efforts of Metallica:

1. Point: Snare is most time better than last album - but why distorted at the failed One-Retry-Song (watched the video last night on MTV) ???

2. That Song could be great w/o misplaced brakes and the video sucks as hell (Chicks under that Stuff-Prison don't have a sexy glance on foreign soldiers, they are slaves and are forced to look down to earth by their owners. And so the story at a check point ends in another way: Rat Dat Dat Ta Daa - Male (ball-less idiots) Suicidal Bombers are common in abusing the Stuff-Prison).

3. The Wah Wah pushed sound of Kirk´s Soli rock as HELL !!!

4. Let´s check "the Rest" tomorrow!
