MICHALE GRAVES Comments On MISFITS Near-Reunion - Sep. 10, 2008
Jason Price of Live-Metal.net recently conducted an interview with former MISFITS singer Michale Graves. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Live-Metal.net: How did your departure from the MISFITS come about?

Michale Graves: My departure came about from a series of events that took about a year or two. The first sign, if you go back into the MISFITS history, the first sign of trouble was when I left when the band went to South America. I left mostly because I was championing the causes of Dr. Chud and Doyle (Wolfgang von Frankenstein). My problem with the situation was that I wasn't being given the respect that I felt that I deserved, nor the ability to have the input on decisions involving art or direction. I was always told, just as all of us were, that "If you don't like the way things were, you can go home and we will find somebody better." My answer was always, "You can't." The planets aligned when we all came together and I was a major part of why the MISFITS resurrected from where they were. It went from this underground thing, to this then relevant, powerful musical force. I wrote the majority of those songs that are one those records. I wrote the songs that you most associate with those records. "Dig Up Her Bones", "Crying On A Saturday Night", "Scream!", "American Psycho", and "Shining", those came out of me. I was always vocal. Jerry and I, the same problems exist today as they did back then. Jerry knows that if Chud and Doyle would pull there heads out of their asses, we could get the MISFITS back together. It's not on me and it is certainly not Jerry. It has always been mostly Doyle and then Chud. I left because there was just so much disfunction, so much unhappiness, and so much stupid shit.

Live-Metal.net: I think the main thing that many of your fans are interested in is whether or not the door is closed for good on a MISFITS reunion.

Michale Graves: Jerry and I do not have a dysfunctional working relationship. Him and I both know and I know he knows that I am on board. It is a phone call away. I won't step back into what I walked away from, but the problem isn't with Jerry and I. The problem is with Doyle and with Chud. I just read an interview with Doyle where he is bashing Jerry about some type of MISFITS reunion with Danzig, basically saying how Jerry threw a monkey wrench into it.

Live-Metal.net: I saw that.

Michale Graves: Well, what fans don't know is how close a MISFITS reunion came because he was having talks about that. After the first situation fell through, the next round of talks that was happening was "Hey, let's get Jerry, Michale, Doyle..." Jerry didn't want Chud, but I was fighting for Chud. The plan was to get us four back together. Like I said before, I was on board. The sticking point on why that fell apart was that Doyle wanted to bring his wife out on tour and wouldn't bend from it because Gorgeous George or Gorgeous Frankenstein or whatever she is called had to be a part of the MISFITS. Jerry didn't even want Chud in the band. Chud is a waste of human life, BUT he certainly deserved to be a part of situation that was being put together. I was the one that was sticking up for him even though he really doesn't deserved to be stuck up for. Doyle says, "So let all the MISFITS fans put that in their pipe and smoke it." Well, you guys have to tell the whole story. They only give you half-truths and they don't want to talk about me. You're not allowed to bring up my name in front of them because they can't hash their stories because they are on the fuckin' losing end of it.

Live-Metal.net: Looking back on that period, is there anything you would do again differently if you had the chance?

Michale Graves: I wouldn't have championed Chud and Doyle's causes if I knew then what I know now. I wouldn't have stuck up for them the way that I did, always more so than helping myself. But that is the way that I am and that is the way I treat people and the way that I conduct business. Those guys are different or at least they have changed a lot.

=The best Misfits era.
I like his vocals, lyrics and songwriting a lot more than Danzig's, even though Danzig started the band, named it and wrote all of the old classics.
I hope they do reunite with Graves, Doyle and Chud, release a new album in the vein of American Psycho and tour the world.

Misfits /w Danzig reunion.....
Will happen one day, there's too much money to be made from it. People,me included, would easily pay $100 to see (Glenn, Jerry, Doyle) back together again on stage. It would be good because I was 4 when they broke up, and to witness it would be amazing. Just seeing Glenn and Doyle preform on blackest of the black twice (including Bullet in Dallas) was amazing. But it would also suck because it would be in arenas, full of trendy emo fucks who bought a Misfits shirt at hot topic and think they are a FIEND. Also the fact it would be in an arena would suck, can you honestly imagine a Misfits show in a huge areana with a baricade??

Misfits w/ Graves...
This should happen one day, though I have a feeling it would also be for money. I for one judge it as a diffrent band and all the songs that Michale wrote with Jerry, Doyle, and Chud were amazing. Which is also why Jerry and Doyle/ Chud preform them in there respective bands.

Until then heres what we get....
Danzig- Finally kicking ass again, with an amazing band.
Jerry Only Misfits- Please get a singer Jerry, I'd pay an extra 5 for the ticket to cover the cost.
Michale Graves- Preforming acoustic in shit holes. Maybe he should make the call to Jerry.
Doyle/ Chud- Playing in Goregous Frankenstien, playing 6 of thier own songs, then 30 that Michale wrote.

he has produced more relevant music than all of his peers

the michale vs. glenn thing is an old issue
they are 2 VERY diffrent singers and his misfits and glenns misfits are 2 diffrent bands

both glenn and Michale have moved far past both

coming from a once Danzig only misfits fan, I was converted when I opened my mind

Michale has a lot coming up for him get ready to hear his name a lot more

Doyle's wife used to be smoking hot. If she looked the way she did back in WCW, I wouldn't care. But holy crap, what happened?? Listening to Georgous Frankenstien open up for Danzig was painful, but watching it was twice as brutal and that was mostly because of her.

I don't care if the reunion would be with Danzig or Graves, let's just do it already. These people aren't getting any younger. One version or the other, but do it. This current version of the Misfits is embarassing and I wouldn't pay two cents to see them.

it never ends

We get cryptic message's from Jerry about why he drops off tours but he never comments on his brother or what the fan's really want (or if he does comment Blabber never picks it up.)

Jerry and Doyle are brothers and they can't get along, that's fucked up and sad.

Graves is doing just fine on his own, he's done some good stuff on his solo albums and he stays active.

Hey, I hung with them a few times. The first time it was just me an a friend of mine with the band for a couple of hours. Chud was one of the coolest guys to hang with. Heck, he made me a italian hoagie from the bands private eats while I jammed on his guitar (Yes, he plays guitar also). Another time Doyle and @ I had dinner with some hot chick in a chinese restaruant because there were no more seats at the main table. He was quiet with everyone else but talked up a storm to me about a guitar he wanted to build. No "Rock Star" attitude there. He was interested in my opinion about the guitar and a few other musical ideas. Very nice person. Jerry "acted" nice. I never met Graves.

Graves seems like a nice dude and has a great voice but from the above article, if Only doesn't have a problem with Graves, why hasn't he called him to be in the band?

The current state of the Misfits is pretty sorry. It's not so much a band anymore but rather a section at Hot Topic. Really anyone, even random fans getting up on stage would sound better than Jerry singing. There's a lot of fucking Misfits cover bands out there I'm sure he could grab one of those guys on the cheap and not cut into his kingdom too much.

Hey mike wake up and smell the coffee it wasn't cause of you it was cause people were happy just hear some old songs again. The albums with Mike singing are just simply terrible with his whiney raspy voice. I thought Zoli was a much better singer in replacement for graves should have kept him

it sucks for Graves that a Misfits reunion didn't happen because Doyle tried to force his wife on them. WTF is that shit? Fuck that. who the fuck names their kid chicken?

Chicken isn't her real name... it's a nickname. Don't pick on the kid - she doesn't have anything to do with any of this bullshit!

And Graves needs to get over it...whatever the reasons are. Doyle is a big boy & I hardly take him as the type to go sit in the corner if/when his wife tells him to, to NOT play with his own brother, etc. but who knows. Apparently, Doyle would rather do something like GF than keep beating a dead horse & that's his God given right to make that decision. Maybe there was more to it than what Michale is seeing/saying... but I don't really know cuz I wasn't in the room. Were you? Maybe Michale was the asshole in it and of course he's not going to blame HIMSELF!! Maybe not, but again, WE DON'T KNOW!! And like someone said above - if Jerry doesn't have a problem w/ Michale & vice versa, why isn't Michale in the band...whether or not they can get Doyle & Chud involved. Jerry's no dummy and I'm sure if he wanted to jam w/ Michale, he knows it would probably be a good thing for the current version of the Misfits. I, personally, think Michale does have an awesome voice and I'm sure alot of people would be happy to see Michale back even if the other guys didn't want to do it, but obviously even that doesn't matter to Jerry cuz Michale's not a part of it... not now anyways. And THIS is only ONE persons take (Michale's) on why reunion talks didn't pan out. Doyle made his choice & that's that.
