LINKIN PARK Frontman Blasts 'MTV Video Music Awards', Talks Solo Project - Sep. 16, 2008
According to The Pulse of Radio, LINKIN PARK frontman Chester Bennington blasted the 2008 "MTV Video Music Awards" in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last week. Bennington, who attended the September 7 awards show, was disappointed in the lack of rock acts represented at the event. He said, "Where were FOO FIGHTERS and NICKELBACK? Or even a band like THREE DAYS GRACE, who had a pretty big year? There was no VAMPIRE WEEKEND or DAUGHTRY. It was very one-sided." The singer described the show itself as "raising the bar of confusion and disarray. The 'VMAs' are consistently clusterf***s, and this year set a new standard."

Bennington noted that "you had people who were invited sitting out in the streets. Plus, everybody was texting, no one was watching the show. I got super bummed out."

But the vocalist's main criticism was that the "VMAs" are appealing to less and less people, saying, "I think the 'VMAs' have completely lost touch with a broad scope of music. It was very bubble gum and Disney, which is why bands like FOO FIGHTERS, and everybody else in my group weren't there."

Although Bennington didn't think his band would win anything, LINKIN PARK did in fact nab a "Best Rock Video" prize for "Shadow of the Day".

Bennington also revealed that his long-in-the-works solo project, which had been called DEAD BY SUNRISE, might come out under his own name when it emerges sometime in 2009. He described the album as "very moody, very dark and melodic."

LINKIN PARK has also been working on new material and plans to record and release a new album in 2009. The band will head to China next month, with proceeds from the shows going to help victims of the earthquake that rocked portions of the country earlier this year.

This guy just figured that out about MTV?
I have no respect for any rockstar who appears on MTV. That rockstar should know that they are either being used by MTV (such as when Kiss reunited in 1996, but were not able to get airplay on MTV when they released Psycho Circus in 1998) or are one of only a few in the rock genre allowed on that station at any given time. MTV barely covered Dimebag's shooting, and didn't do one report on Rocklahoma.

MTV has always been irrelevant to anyone over the age of about 16, so people should stop acting surprised.

say what you want about LP....he is spot on with his comments. Mainstream wise rock has been dead for years. I'm sick of only seeing that rap hiphop r&b shit on tv.
Rock needs a revival like theres no tomorrow!! here's hoping there's more pure rock bands like Airbourne on the way.......soon!

As for the VMA's....I still had a tiny little bit of respect left for them but that all went down the toilet when they gave 3 of the biggest awards of the show to nasty talentless talking vagina.... Brittany Spears. she should be banished to an island in the middle of the ocean and never seen again!

Linkin Park just needs to go away no one likes them and MTV needs to take away all reality shows and go back to what it used to be and MTV2 just can go away cause it was created when MTV started slipping away from music and now its far worse than MTV VH1 is better because its still revolved around music where as Music Television(MTV) has nothing to do with music any more

Two of my mates are working on it....
Two different bands

One of them is a sleaze-rock-revival group.... you know, the kind of one who worship Nikki SIxx and reckon that the New York Dolls are gods?? Eh, at least they rock hard

The other is a no-bullshit thrash band in the vein of Anthrax, Slayer and Sepultura

There is no MTV. There is only BET2 (MTV), BET3 (VH1), BET4 (E!), BET5 (ABC), BET6 (NBC) BET7 (CBS), BET8 (PBS), etc. ad infinitum. As a metalhead when you are asked to 'celebrate diversity' just realize that it doesn't include you.

LET'S DO IT!!!

You know in England they have that Metal Hammer awards. We need an award show over here for Metal. Or is it a dumb idea? Blabbermouth could host it. Have live bands appear, put it on an internet simulcast or whatever (what, do you think MTV would broadcast it?) and call it the Blabbies. I've mention tyhois before as a joke in reference to, for example:

Story on Blabbermouth with the most comments
Most Non-metal story of the year
Best baiting title of the year
Most controversial news item
Biggest yes-man fan-boy (his initials are RA)

etc.

But a serious awards show might work, so that we don't have to have people in the non-metal world giving out an award for a genre they don't understand
I think Blabbermouth has a broad enough scope and respectabilty to be fair not to give the group of the year to a Jethro Tull.

Here's my list:
Comeback of the year - Anvil Chorus
Best Re-issue - Diamond Head
Best release of an old recording - Medeival/;Death Dealer
Worst line-up change - Nightwish
Biggest hyped group on BM - Metallica

You get the idea

The show's totally a consistent clusterfuck every year. Last year was a disaster. Had some friends work it and they said it was hell. Didn't watch this year's. At least last year they had that "Foo Fighters Suite" where they played their own shit, did songs with Lemmy, did Holiday in Cambodia with Serj, had Mastodon play, etc.

And for anyone who thinks your favorite metal band wouldn't partake if invited, you're high, unless it's some real extreme artist. Sabbath would be there in a second.

I happen to enjoy Linkin Park. I know I'm gonna get blasted for it, but whatever. You guys can talk all the shit you want with your keyboards.

Linkin Park was one of the first bands I got really into back in the day. They opened to door for me to get into heavier music, and I'm grateful for that. Chester Bennington is a bad ass in my eyes, and I respect the man.

Now you guys can hate all you want. Holla!

uh oh no Daughtry? no we didn't get inundated with this mommy-rock tripe enought the last few years? umm that's what AOR corporate rock radio hangs its hat on every day. When these 'program director' idiots get mailed the advance Metallica CD for example they never listen to it then hand it to the 'music director' and ask "are there any slower mellow tunes like Nothing Else Matters we can play?"

So Linkin Park Guy is pissed because MTV isn't supporting actual rock bands anymore. No shit. That started in the late 80's early 90's and it's getting worse. He's just on the other side of it and not the latest product MTV can sell to 13 year olds. MTV is a cross between Disney and those horrible gossip shows. It's just the "evolution" of MTV. Ask somebody in Warrant how much MTV support they recieved in 1993. How much support will LP get in the future?
