'Flashback – The Classic Rock Experience' Tour Cancelled After A Few Shows - Sep. 16, 2008
TicketNews reports that "Flashback – the Classic Rock Experience", a national arena tour which "delivers anew the hit music of the all-time greatest artists — JANIS JOPLIN, JIMI HENDRIX, THE DOORS, LED ZEPPELIN, PINK FLOYD and more — presented in a mind-boggling multi-media spectacle one must see to believe," has cancelled its trek after playing only a couple of dates. The $5.5 million arena production kicked off August 27 in Mobile, Alabama, and had dates booked through November 9 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Although the show received strong reviews, advance ticket sales were reportedly soft. The average ticket price was to be under $40.

IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain made a surprise appearance on August 31 with the "Flashback – the Classic Rock Experience". McBrain joined the "Flashback" musicians for a performance of the DEEP PURPLE classic "Smoke on the Water" at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.

Photos and video footage of McBrain's appearance can be viewed below.

According to BLABBERMOUTH.NET reader John Paul Gouleven, "The show was filled with surprises including an ultra crisp 225,000 watt surround sound system, pyros, trippy lasers, and really groovy slideshows [Note: The artwork in the slideshow created by Ed Unitsky]. The show's concept is to provide the technology of a stage show today to some of rock 'n' roll's most infamous hits, with an orchestra, multiple performers, and multiple guitars, and precussion... It worked perfectly!!! It was like going to the ultimate reunion tour of all time; JANIS JOPLIN (Katrina Chester was awesome... what a set of lungs!!!), THE DOORS, JIMI HENDRIX, PINK FLOYD, LED ZEPPELIN, just to name a few."

.....being right SMACK IN THE MIDDLE of Birmingham AL...you'd think I'd have saw some of the advertising that should go into this.

Nope. Not a smidgen.

Might be why there were "soft" ticket sales? I commercial or 2 usually helps the cause.

I would have loved to go to something like this. Too bad this is the first I have heard about it. Not even a baner ad? Interviews set up to promote it? YouTube viral campaign? Anything?

Richard Wright passed away? I am in fucking tears right now.
I am thankful for his music and I am really glad the floyd reunited before something like this happened.

Why would anyone want to see this tour? A cover band with expensive staging playing arenas?

The ultimate reunion tour? The reunion of the sound guy and lighting guy?

Of course it stiffed.

COMMENT | None of the bands were actually on the tour

There were no "bands" on the tour. Just a promoter using band's names and music in his tour spots with the bait and switch of a cover band.

Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd on stage together! was actually on a number of press releases and the come on for the satellite media footage - This tour was using anything they could think of to try to draw an audience.

COMMENT | It was a great show

To say there were no names on the tour is rubbish.

The band contained some of the most respected names in the buisiness
and included 2 ex members of Rainbow, 1 current member of TAPFS, 2 players from WWRY (london), 1 founder member of 3 Dog Night, 1 member of the B52's etc..... The show was simply too ambitious and did not have the publicity or management it needed.

The 8 gigs it did do were all great and the audiences who came loved it.
