Swiss Pop Singer Covers METALLICA's 'The Unforgiven'; Video Available - Sep. 16, 2008
Bespectacled 19-year-old Swiss pop singer Stefanie Heinzmann has recorded a cover version of the METALLICA classic "The Unforgiven". The official video for the track, which will be released as a single at the end of October, can be viewed below.

According to Wikipedia, Heinzmann started her career as a singer in 2005 in a rock band called BIGFISCH. In summer 2007 she applied for a talent contest hosted by Stefan Raab on the late-night show "TV Total" and was selected as one of the 20 finalists. With interpretations of soul, jazz and funk classics by the likes of Macy Gray, Norah Jones and Joss Stone she reached the final show on January 10, 2008. There she finally defeated the remaining three competitors in the televoting, winning a contract with Universal Music. Her final song, "My Man Is a Mean Man" — composed by Swedish producers Gustav Jonsson, Tommy Tysper and Marcus Sepehrmanesh — went on sale the day after the final. One week after its release the single debuted straight on top of the Swiss single chart, also reaching the top 10 in Austria and Germany. Her debut album was released on March 7, 2008.

Once more the answer of Ted Jensen from Sterling Sound who had to master DEATH MAGNETIC when asked about the clipping issues :

"Thanks for writing.

I’m certainly sympathetic to your reaction, I get to slam my head against that brick wall every day. In this case the mixes were already brick walled before they arrived at my place. Suffice it to say I would never be pushed to overdrive things as far as they are here. Believe me I’m not proud to be associated with this one, and we can only hope that some good will come from this in some form of backlash against volume above all else."

thanks for posting all these articles. I knew that eventually the shiity production of this album would start being addressed on a major scale. Even Andy Sneaps and the Mastering Engineer himself Ted Jensen have weighed in and agree that the production is beyond dog shit.

loudness wars must end!!

"With interpretations of soul, jazz and funk classics by the likes of Macy Gray, Norah Jones and Joss Stone..."

Since when did any of those artist write what could be considered a 'funk classic'? Hell Joss Stone has only been around a couple of years and her first disc was only ocvers! How frickin stupid can you get?

Oh yeah...this version sucks ass, not that the original was any better but this is utter tripe.

Much better than the original, almost sounds like it was written perfectly for pop music and Metallica just slowed it down.

The cover was weak. She basically took away the darkness of the song, which was what made "The Unforgiven" the classic that it is.

To all artists out there, if you're going to cover a metal song, you had better kick ass and that's what this young lady failed to do.

I'll give this bitch credit... The Unforgiven isn't really one of those songs that's covered much. But that's all I'll give her. It was horrible. The only reson she did it was cuz it's a ballad. I'd bet my left nut she couldn't do Master of Puppets if she tried.
