METALLICA's LARS ULRICH Wants To Share Stage With U2

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has told the UK's Daily Star newspaper that his one remaining ambition is for the band to perform on the same bill as U2.
Despite appearing alongside some of the biggest names in music —including DEEP PURPLE, THE ROLLING STONES, IRON MAIDEN and AC/DC — METALLICA has yet to share the stage with the Irish band.
"I'll play at one in the afternoon, in a parking lot in Ireland, I don't give a shit. As long as I can do that," he told the Daily Star.
Ulrich also spoke about the buzz aurrounding the band's new album 'Death Magnetic", which topped the U.S. chart afer selling a half million copies in the first three days alone.
"A lot of crazy and fun things are happening one after the other in our lives right now," he said. "Whenever METALLICA does anything, even when we get out of bed in the morning, something seems to happen in the wake of it. But it seems people are responding well to the new album. It's our most positively received album since probably 1991's Black album. It's a good time to be in METALLICA and it's still a buzz."

Those individuals you mentioned are hardly losers. They are entertainers in their own right, make music that is appropriate for their scene and target demographics, and manage themselves quite well (well, not Britney until recently). They are worth millions. The fact that they all make music we don't particularly like is immaterial.

Death Magnetic is ok and the last few albums by U2 have been ok too, nothing more. but it doesnt seem to matter to their fans if they are crap or not, they just buy it and say its good whatever it is. and of course they sell loads of records still, because they are everywhere, if many bands would get this much advertisement and publicity then most bands would sell this much. but they are both good bands, i just find other bands much better both live and on album.

I personally dislike most U2 I've heard since Achtung Baby. The music they make now is of ZERO interest to me but I'd still pay to see them play with Metallica.
They're a very talented band while I'll admit they're far from Metal which some here seem to forget you don't have to play Metal to have talent.
I'd take ANY Jazz or Blues guitarist over a Metal musician any day and they have nothing to do with either U2 or Metallica.

I can't believe how many ignorant fuckin' people are on this site. First off, Kreator sucks. And Death Magnetic is a great Metallica album. U2 is a great band. But I will say I don't know if them touring together would be a great bill. However, I do admire Lars for coming up with such an idea. Here's a great bill:

Death Magnetic is by far Metallica's best effort since 'justice.'
This album is now the benchmark for those attempting to steal their
mighty crown! It's highly unlikely Slayer, Lamb Of God, or any shitty Death Metal band will even scratch Metallica's brilliance!

It's no surprise Ulrich wants Metallica to tour with U2 (the only band with all 4 original members 30 + years on)
Ulrich is a foward thinking guy who doesn't limit himself to listening to metal music.....a lesson some of you fucking meatheads could learn.It is no secret that many musicians in the metal community are U2 fans themselves..the list is too numerous to mention.
More importantly when I was back in high school in 1984 when 99 % of you assholes didn't know who the fuck Metallica was...all the hardcore Metallica fans were also guess what?? yep they were hardcore U2 fans as well...it seems the younger generation of kids have no fucking brains when it comes to music,they pigenhole themselves with one band or one genre of music...because they're ignorant fucks and they lack brain cells

Let's bring back the Clash of the Titans tour that happened in the late 80s/early 90s! Megadeth, Exodus, Testament, and Overkill were on the bill that I saw overseas and it absolutely kicked ass!!! Metallica needs to think about sharing the stage with bands like that and do a total METAL fest type tour, IMO!

A "Superweight Metal Champions of the World" tour that would feature Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth and Iron Maiden is by far the best thing these bands could ever do. Each and every metal fan would find something interesting there.
A U2/Metallica one-night-only concert could be interesting, as long as they play classic rock covers. Otherwise, I can't imagine Hetfield singing Sunday Bloody Sunday or With or Without You, or Bono singing Enter Sandman or Master of Puppets... Bono could sing songs like Nothing Else Matters or The Unforgiven, but that wouldn't catch real Metallica fans' attention pretty much.
