Guitarist PETER WICHERS Rejoins SOILWORK - Sep. 18, 2008
It's been almost three years since guitarist Peter Wichers announced his departure from one of Sweden's elite metal forces, SOILWORK. Although this initially caused shock and discussion within the metal community, SOILWORK was determined to continue modernizing the face of music and unleashed "Sworn To A Great Divide" in October of 2007.

Still driven to be an unstoppable force, SOILWORK brings great news to all their fans with the following statement:

"Dear SOILWORK fans,

"The past two years have been great although sometimes a bit turbulent. We made another killer album and did several amazing tours around the world; and today it is with sheer joy and excitement that we announce the return of Peter Wichers as a guitarist in SOILWORK. He's been missed both as a bandmate and as a songwriter.

"We know that we can come back even stronger, and it definitely gives us a feeling of inspiration and completion to have Peter, one of the founders of SOILWORK, come back to the fold. We feel that we can look into the future with greater confidence and musical creativity. Having Peter back will complete the circle and the final lineup of the band.

"This also marks Daniel Antonsson's departure from SOILWORK as Peter's replacement since 2006. We are really grateful for Daniel's excellent work and he will be missed. However, to us it's ideal for Peter to fulfill his former duties as a songwriter and guitarist. Going separate ways with Daniel is not an easy decision for us to make, but it's the right one. We wish Daniel the best of luck in the future and many great things with his other band DIMENSION ZERO! Rock on Daniel!!!

"As we previously announced, Dirk's bandmate in SCARVE, Sylvain Coudret, has been doing session work for us throughout the summer festivals and shredding on second guitar. Therefore we're taking this opportunity to confirm Sylvain as a permanent guitar player for SOILWORK. Since we're big fans of SCARVE, we know Sylvain will make a great addition to the songwriting process for the next SOILWORK album.

"Peter's return to SOILWORK will begin on stage with the upcoming European tour."

Peter's personal statement:

"Dear fans of SOILWORK!

"Let me first of all say that I'm incredibly grateful for all the amazing feedback and support that I've received since my departure from SOILWORK almost three years ago.

"When I left SOILWORK, I was at a place in my life where I felt burnt out on touring and I needed to get my life into a more stable situation. I needed to do something other than SOILWORK, perhaps explore more diverse styles of songwriting and musical journeys. Therefore, over the past few years, I've been very focused on production, songwriting and family, and have had the privilege to work with some amazing artists on some really cool and rewarding projects.

"During my time away from the band, my good friend Björn 'Speed' and I had always kept in touch and maintained a great friendship. We recently spoke about working on a possible musical collaboration, and that's when we started toying with the idea of me perhaps returning to SOILWORK.

"I needed some time to think about it, but after careful consideration, I've decided that I still have tons of enthusiasm and creativity to contribute to SOILWORK. I have a lot of love for my brothers in the band, and I would of course be honored to once again share the stage with the greatest metal band in the world!

"So it is with great honor that I now announce my return and 110% commitment to SOILWORK. I guarantee that we'll bring forth one hell of a show and write the best album in the history of SOILWORK's career."

SOILWORK will be on tour with ZIMMERS HOLE and ONE-WAY MIRROR in Europe this November and December. Shortly after, the band will headline a massive North American tour to begin in late January 2009 with DARKANE, WARBRINGER, and SWALLOW THE SUN.

Still a horrible band. They're almost as bad as In Flames in that the style that made them great has been completely abandoned and rejected by the band.

Brilliant news... One thing though... Bring the US tour line up to the UK too! Swallow the Sun rule, and Darkane aren't too shabby either!

Best news I've heard in awhile and the best thing that could have happened to this band. I still loved Sworn to a Great Divide, but Peter's return can only mean better things for these guys.

Ok so, considering you're obviously musically ignorant by the comment you made about the bands "abandoning" their respective styles, maybe you shouldn't comment about a band's style at all. In Flames provided reason for why they write differently; they wanted to write tour-friendly material and didn't feel like writing songs with multiple guitar layers... They'd sort of need more than 2 guitarists to play their best stuff that involved multiple guitar layers... And Soilwork OBVIOUSLY isn't the same without Wichers; he should whip them back into shape... He DID write all of the good music involved on their Natural Born Chaos and albums previous to it...

I think this is fantastic news, and I hope it leads to a better cd than Sworn to a Great Divide... That guitar tone was some of the worst tone I've ever heard. Wichers doesn't screw around in the projects he's involved in; he wrote every song on the newest Nuclear Blast All-Stars cd, and a few of those tracks showed true promise. I really hope this means things will return to form at least in some respect...

let me first say that i'm not that big on anything after natural born chaos, actually i thought their later stuff to sound like wanna-be in flames. NBC at least sounded innovative at the time, really liked it at the time, not really too big of it now though. shit, sry, that's not at all what i'm trying to get at.

chainheart machine was their best record by far. i still listen to that album and it raises eyebrows, it sounds like if they didn't release a jammin' ass metal album then they wouldn't have been allowed to eat.

anyway, hopefully they make an excellent return, peter's guitar jams are second to none, and provide the only element to soilwork that makes them worth listening.... why?

BECAUSE THE VOCALIST REALLY ISN'T THAT GOOD!!!

or rather, no vocalist is good enough to carry any metal band, especially something that is supposed to be extreme, and lets face it, that's exactly what speed has been trying to do with his fancy pants vocals.

You're wrong, Speed IS that good. Sworn to a great divide was an awesome release, and Peter being back in the band will only make their next album all the better (hopefully). They proved they could still make great music without him, so hopefully they can keep doing so with him back in the fold.

Best metal music news I've heard in quite some time. Your assignment Peter, if you choose to accept it; write A Predator's Portrait II."

I hope they return somewhat to their earlier sound.

"it sounds like if they didn't release a jammin' ass metal album then they wouldn't have been allowed to eat."

Chainhear Machine is indeed their best, then Steel Bath Suicide.

the support acts are better than the main act. Darkane has remained true in every one of their albums. Every soilwork album seems to get worse and worse

i don't think i'm wrong, though i'll admit i'm not a fan of their newer stuff, if you compare the new with the old the vocals of speed can't compare to the guitar work that wichers brought, it just can't (apples and oranges, right?), the guitars brought with it band cohesion that i'll argue speed could not match up to... this isn't a true fact though, because it's just my opinion, but i like my metal to fucking rock - i don't want to be singin' along with speed like a damn fairy princess...

if you like it though, that's cool

Fuck yes...this is good news. They just need Ola and Henry back. Dirk is good but I think Henry is better. But yeah I'll be seeing these guys for the 3rd time in March. Last time I saw them was with Darkane....and Darkane blew them and everyone else off the stage.

That album blew, while the Nuclear Blast All-Stars and Warrel Dane albums he wrote, played and produced fucking rocked. Good news for Soilwork.

Almost spit my beer all over my monitor, but that would've resulted in chaos and a situation I just wouldn't enjoy. However, good news!
I got into soilwork about a year before stabbing the drama and wasn't quite blown away by it, seemed like the trend at that time to tone down guitarsolos and make more rocklike metal. When sworn to a great divide came out I couldn't get into it at all. Just like the latest in flames, it just seemed bland compared to what they have made in the past. Granted each band needs to evolve their music the way THEY see fit, it doesn't automatically mean I have to embrace it as my long lost external harddrive filled with porn.

Looking forward to the next album, what I've heard so far off of praises to the warmachine shows he still got it. This could either be the best thing to happen to soilwork, or another lost external harddrive filled to the brim of porn. I hope for the former.

Crank it up you crazy swedes!
