Reunited SPINESHANK Releases First New Song In Five Years - Sep. 18, 2008
After five years of silence, the Grammy-nominated California-based band SPINESHANK has reunited. Original members Jonny Santos (vocals), Tommy Decker (drums), Mike Sarkisyan (guitar) and Rob Garcia (bass) have completed five new songs and plan on writing about 15 more before they enter a studio to begin recording a new album. "All the bad blood and differences that led to the breakup have all been put behind us," says Decker. "It feels right again. We're not being pressured to write a single or look a certain way, were doing it because we want to." Santos adds, "I think splitting when we did might have been a good decision. We were at a high point in our career; we ended it on our own terms."

SPINESHANK has posted a new track, "Born Conform Repent", on the band's MySpace page.

SPINESHANK's third and last album, "Self-Destructive Pattern", was released on September 9, 2003. The album's lead single, "Smothered", was nominated for a Grammy in the category of "Best Metal Performance".

Following his departure from SPINESHANK, Santos formed SILENT CIVILIAN, which released its debut album, "Rebirth of the Temple", in May 2006.

SPINESHANK played its last show to a sold-out London Astoria at the end of the Roadrage tour in 2003.

Used to love these guys but this new song is pretty awful IMO. Sometimes it's just better to part ways....

These were Korn clones back in 98... 10 years later they`re still jumping on bandwagons... pathetic...

Always loved Spineshank but this doesn't sound like them. As the others have said, sounds like they are trying to be like other bands to slip back into the scene. Hopefully the other stuff is more melodic.

First of all, Spineshank was not a bad band in the least. Second of all, this new song is actually pretty fucking cool. Very heavy. It doesn't sound exactly like old Spineshank, not that I would expect it to. It's been 5 fucking years. But none of Spineshank's albums sounded that much like eachother. And I wouldn't think that the rest of their new songs would sound like this either.
And I can't help but laugh at the 'metalcore' and 'Korn clones' comment.

you are right to dislike them i mean they were only nominated for a poor grammy but no no no you are surely right-yes yes you are. i think you are probably right on every word you wrote-i think you are the truth itself, and that millions of people that bought their music is wrong because you are right-yes you are-you would make a far better song/sorry you probably wrote a far better songs and have been nominated for a grammy that's i know you are right-and everyone else is wrong.

i sure do think so!

i dunno i guess spineshank was decent compared to a lot of the garbage that was being released back then. at the same time, they were pretty much a 2nd tier band back then. one has to wonder if there'll be much interest in a spineshank reunion in this day and age.

like i said though, IMO their first 2 albums were alright as far as late 90s/early 2000s borderline-mainstream metal goes. wouldn't necessarily call them original, but they weren't exactly a cookie-cutter/by-the-numbers kind of group either.

the question is: does anybody in 2008 really care all that much about an ozzfest second stage nu metal act trying to go -CORE? i kind of doubt it.

silent civilian was pretty badass though. :-)

with any luck the rest of it will sound more like old spineshank, but it's possible the lame myspace quality is detracting from the track...

Well... I feel they've always been a mediocre band at best.

But good luck to em whatever they do. I would sell the pitiful, worthless scraps of my soul to make a living doing what I love.

I can't wait for all my other Favourite Maritime Hall first openers to get back together... Let's see:

Union Underground
Puya
3rd Strike
.... cant think of any other names, right now, but yeah... Maybe they can all get together with like Machine Head playing "The Burning Red" in its entirety...

Awesome.

I was pretty surprised when I heard about the break up. I mean I saw them on that Roadrage tour in DC back in 03'. I always like them in the past and count me in on this new Spineshank!

I hope I see them on the road again.

Than Silent Civilian... just saying. Caught SC opening for Nonpoint, and I spent their entire set wondering if I would ever see Spineshank again, but after that song, i'm not too sure i care.

Why are people judging their return by ONE song that is a DEMO? It hasn't even been mastered, so it could end up sounding pretty different when it's done. I hope they keep their industrial elements in their music.

And Jonny is still going to be working on the next Silent Civilian album. They are not done, thankfully. And the thing is, SC was getting pretty damn big. Their album was amazing, and they landed some really good tours. Then they just decided to stop doing anything for some reason.

Hmm.. Im bummed by hearing them grind..
They never did it back then, but now its legit and "cool", and it seems like they only do it for the sake of that..

I was a big fan of "Height of..." back then, and still is.. So when it comes to this new song, im sort of biased as I normaly would have shunned this sorta thing(song)..

Well.. Its just a demo, anyways.. Hoping to hear more electronics, programming and a slight return to form..
