METALLICA's 'Death Magnetic' Holding On To Top Spot On BILLBOARD Chart

According to Hits Daily Double (the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS), METALLICA's "Death Magnetic" appears to have enough momentum to hold on to the top spot on next week's The Billboard 200 chart, with a projected 250-275,000 sales in its first full week of release, outpacing hit songwriter/performer NE-YO, whose "Year of the Gentleman" is expected to debut with around 235-250,000 units.
METALLICA's No. 1 debut on the Billboard album chart with "Death Magnetic", made history. The No. 1 arrival made METALLICA the only band to have five albums debut in the top spot, breaking a tie at four albums held by THE BEATLES, U2 and the DAVE MATTHEWS BAND. "Death Magnetic" is also METALLICA's fifth consecutive studio effort to enter at No. 1, following 1991's self-titled "black album," 1996's "Load", '97's "Reload" and 2003's "St. Anger". The album sold 490,000 copies in just four days of release, arriving in stores on September 12 instead of the usual Tuesday.
"Death Magnetic" also debuted at No. 1 in countries all over the world, including Argentina, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the U.K., Holland, Norway, Poland and Sweden.

All the supposed metalheads thinking that this album hasn't got any riffs on it.... I don't give a shit if you don't like the new record, but there are more true metal riffs in here since Justice. This is such a good record. This is MUSIC people.... not just chug chug chug (scream or grunt) with no purpose.
The fact that a metal band is number one and fucking all the shitty pop rap GARBAGE that's out there is awesome and you fucks should be loving this.

i agree with you. there's not many bands (if any) that can pull in those kinds of numbers anymore. but it's proof that the industry isn't exactly dead yet. most other artists that debut at #1 on the charts are flash-in-the-pan artists that no one will care about in 6 months, which is why a lot of them get the #1 spot, yet only sell a little over 200,000 in the first week. if time was spent establishing artists for longer careers instead of just shoving the latest trend down everyone's throats and then tossing these artists to the wayside, then maybe more people would buy records.
i'm not saying the internet hasn't had an affect on the business, because definitely has. i'm just saying that the internet isn't the only thing hurting the business, because to a certain extent, the business is hurting itself too. if the industry got it's head out of it's ass and realized this, then MAYBE labels wouldn't be a dying breed right now.
on an unrelated note, the new Metallica is pretty damn good. it's what i expected from the album so i'm happy.

I actually have to say something about Wozilla. Even how annoying he might be, i appreciate how strong he is in his beliefs that AC/DC will come back so strong. He even thinks they will sell more than Metallica (yeah i know, its funny as hell).
Metallica is much more relevant than ac/dc, Metallica never went away, ac/dc has been under the radar for long.
If he could limits his posts to ac/dc topics - would be better though.

BLACK ICE is going to outsell DEATH MAGNETIC for the simple reason that it's a Walmart exclusive. This is why Journey's new album sold a ridiculous amount of copies. Look for the same with AC/DC.
Note that I'm not making a claim to which album will be better, since I obviously haven't heard AC/DC's album yet. I will say that I like Metallica's new album a lot, and I'm looking forward to BLACK ICE.

AC/ DC was a band I heavily liked in the mid 1970's and late 1970's...until I discovered NWOBHM. Comparing AC/ DC to MetallicA is moronic.
The only thing AC/ DC and MetallicA have in common, if you flip throught the record collections of original 1980's metal fanatics, there will be AC/ DC and Metallica releases in our collections.
One of my independant metal/ tape trader contacts in 1980--1988 was a big AC/ DC fan and was a highly articulate person well versed in every sub-genre and genre of music, so I do not associate AC/ DC fans as a MetallicA fan, with such morons as Wozzilla. Because he claims Death Magnetic is just Danger Danger riffs recycled, but if he knew anything about the sub-genres and genres of music, he would have to know Danger Danger is closer to AC/ DC than MetallicA.
Becasue eveyone knows Metallica formed first for its love of NWOBHM, Discharge and all things heavy and the independant metal movement, and second was a back-lash against the AOR that was famous in October 1981 and all of 1982, like REO Speedwagon, Billy Squire, Journey, J. Giles...etc
So it makes more sense a AC/ DC fan would have a Danger Danger LP, and not the Rhythm guitarist of MetallicA !!!!!

I like Metallica and AC/DC and according to reports on pre orders alone Black Ice is gonna be a huge selling album all over the world. The fact is that AC/DC are one of the biggest selling bands and a massive live draw. The way this wozzilla prick has turned some of you sheep into his Metallica v AC/DC battle is just pathetic.
