NACHTMYSTIUM Drops Off OPETH Tour - Sep. 21, 2008
Chicago-area psychedelic black metal group NACHTMYSTIUM has dropped off the North American tour featuring OPETH and HIGH ON FIRE.

Commented NACHTMYSTIUM in a statement: "Due to some issues beyond our control, we've been forced to pull off the OPETH/HIGH ON FIRE tour. We're aggressively working to try to get things together for the second leg of our fall tour starting in Los Angeles on October 8th with WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM.

"We apologize to anyone who was hoping to see us on the OPETH leg of the tour.

"Thanks to all of those who came out in support at the shows that we did manage to play, it was great seeing you maniacs out!"

NACHTMYSTIUM's latest full-length album, "Assassins: Black Meddle Part I", was released on June 10 via Century Media Records in North America and June 23 through Candlelight Records in Europe.

"Worldfall", the new mini-CD from NACHTMYSTIUM, was released as a precursor to the band's upcoming full-length, and is only be available direct from Century Media as well as iTunes.

The "Assassins..." full-length was recorded in December at Sanford Parker's Volume Studios (RWAKE, MINSK, LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR, PELICAN) and showcases NACHTMYSTIUM's most prolific and expansive sounds to date. The record features Tony Laureano (ANGELCORPSE, NILE, DIMMU BORGIR) on drums, and guest appearances by members of PHARAOH and YAKUZA.

NACHTMYSTIUM interview conducted in May 2008 at Islington Academy, London, England:

They sucked. One chord played over blastbeats the entire set. Waste of my time.

since my date was the first one without them and and I know the guys who booked the show here, I heard the story. they were thrown out the tour because they were assholes and they threw a TV out a window of their hotel room.

So they did their obligatory duty as rockstars and were punished because of it?

What's this world coming to!?

The only reason I bought a ticket to the Vancouver show was to see Nachtmystium.

Glad that weak "black metal" band dropped off the tour. Now i don't have to sit through their bullshit set before opeth goes on.

This band was horrible when I was them on the 17th in Philly. They sounded like a local band compared to Opeth.

saw them with Opeth in NYC. it was pretty bad. some of there stuff could have been ok, but playing the same riff for a minute straight just wares away and the echo effect on the singers voice was horrible.

i wasn't even that impressed with High on Fire and i own a few albums.

Opeth however was good as they always are. i was glad they played Serenity Painted Death, one of my favs.

COMMENT | Yes.

I, too, saw them in Buffalo, but only caught the last three songs. We hit a traffic jam just after Rochester, and I suspect that the show must've started a bit earlier than 20:00. Too bad, because they sounded great from what I heard. I'd say they were one of the better bands that I, personally, have seen play with Opeth, but then again I am sure that many fans enjoyed seeing the likes of Lacuna Coil and Paradise Lost. Those bands just aren't my cup of tea, much like Nachtmystium does not appear to be to the liking of many of these posters. It's a shame that they're off the tour, especially if its over something stupid like throwing a TV out of a window. I would've thought that this tour would've been a good opportunity for them. I'd love to see them with Wolves in Throne Room... stupid West Coast tours...

i saw them in philly. i actually wasn't expecting much. i've been sitting on nachtmystium and reign of the malicious for a few years - a lot of the comments above seem to pretty much fit their older stuff. depressing to say the least. but the morning of the show i checked them out on myspace and their new stuff seemed a lot more listenable, so i got kinda psyched and made sure i wasn't late. and i wasn't disappointed, they were excellent. nachtmystium is definitely not a one-dimensional black metal band anymore, and i for one am glad i caught them at the beginning of the tour.
