MARILYN MANSON Collaborating With NE-YO?
- Sep. 21, 2008
|
|
R&B songwriter/performer Ne-Yo, whose "Year of the Gentleman", is set to debut at position No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart next week (behind METALLICA's "Death Magnetic"), has told UK's Daily Star that he is preparing to collaborate with shock-rocker Marilyn Manson. "We're about to go into the studio together," he said. "I've wanted to work with him for ages and his people reached out to me when they heard. I have no idea what the music will sound like or what direction we'll take, but it will be really cool. We're obviously two separate sides of the musical extreme but that's what makes it exciting. People might think it’s a strange collaboration, I don't. But don't worry — you won't see me adopting his style. I don't think you'll ever see me in make-up."

if you think i'm a brainless swat for looking forward to a musical collaboration between two fairly talented musicians, then you obviously have no appreciation for musicians who are not "metal"

Despite liking Manson and R&B, I'm a bit sceptical about this
On the other hand, after tha last MM album, the only way is up

Well. I'll keep an open mind.
It can't be any worse than when Manson worked with jonathon davis on the queen of the damned soundtrack. damn that song sucked.

it might sound a little bit like when marilyn manson did something with eminem, or someone mixed them or something. there's a version of 'the way i am' by eminem that has marilyn manson (or impersonator) singing in it, and the original backing track has been replaced with distorted guitars etc
it was interesting, but not something to play where other people might hear...

remember a few years back, when Manson put out "Mechanical Animals"...? The glam-era David Bowie-tribute concept album...
Ne-Yo's a decent R&B singer/songwriter: in the vein of a wannabe Marvin Gaye/Luther Vandross kind of vein...
Maybe Manson's getting ready to tribute Bowie again, but the Young Americans "I'm gonna make a soul album"-period of Bowie.
Could turn out to be interesting. Or atrocious.

I think its going to be more like "Antichrist" or "Holywood" myself especially with Twiggy at the helm.

I think Manson is going to be the main feature of the song. I think you'll get a few snippets of Ne-Yo in the background, but I think it'll be 95% Manson. I'll keep an open mind and give it a chance.

As far as current pop, I kind of like Ne-Yo. I don't get the Marvin, Luther comparison though. Seems to me like the poster was just trying to show he knew the names of a few black singers. I get more of a mix of L.A./British disco/soul. More of what we got from the Dazz Band, Sly Stone, Terrance Trent D'Arby and Bowie. Seems like it would mesh really well with some of Mansons better work.

petehagen you honestly turned this colab that i thought would be horrible, and not in the right directin for Manson, into something that could be potentally great. It excites me that manson could take a turn towards a more soulful sound, like bowie did. interesting.

if this is true my marilyn manson collection is going on ebay and and respect i have for him will go down the drain. NE-YO writes about how he wants to screw girls and cools himself a gentleman and marilyn manson really goes somewere with his lyricism.

last time we kept our minds to something like this...
Limp Bizkit took over the world. And those who lived through that times know that it wasn't a good time for metal.

"Seems to me like the poster was just trying to show he knew the names of a few black singers. "
Actually, dude, I named Luther because Luther collaborated with Bowie on "Young Americans". Just comparing the idea of two such odd-ends-of-the-spectrum artists collaborating. Only mentioning both of those greats because Ne-Yo is actually one of the more talented nu-soul type dudes out there...
Not everyone on Blab is ignorant to music that doesn't prominently feature guitars...

ne-yo wont be singing on the song obvioustly. ne-yo is also a producer and sonwriter by trade not a singer so my best guess would be hes helping manson with a song not singing it with him. i hope its heavy as shit too!
