SAXON: New Album Title, Track Listing; Single Artwork Revealed - Sep. 24, 2008
SAXON fans have a lot of things to look forward to in the coming months: to start off with, the British metal legends will release their new download single, "Live To Rock", followed by the arrival at the stores of their current studio album, "Into The Labyrinth", as well as major tours to support both releases. So a hot autumn is about to start in a few days' time!

SAXON's new single, "Live To Rock", will be available as an Internet download from October 17, and SAXON will present the track live for the first time during the tour which will take Biff Byford and company alongside MOTÖRHEAD and DANKO JONES through England and Germany in November/December 2008. SAXON's new studio album, "Into The Labyrinth", will be out on January 12, 2009 (Germany: January 9; USA: January 13). February 2009 will see the band embark on another major world tour, only one month after the album release.

"Into The Labyrinth" was recorded at the Twilight Hall in Krefeld, Germany, under the direction of Charlie Bauerfeind. SAXON laid down 13 new songs at BLIND GUARDIAN's studio, starting with monumental opener "Battalions Of Steel" through "Demon Sweeney Todd" and "Valley Of The Kings", which both cover historic events, to the final slide guitar blues track "Coming Home" (fans are already familiar with the electric version of this track from SAXON's "Killing Ground" album).

SAXON is currently still working on an additional 14th track, which will be available exclusively as a download on iTunes from the release date.

"The new material was written in England and at my house in France," Byford explains. "Stylistically, I would describe the album as an even balance between 'Lionheart' and 'The Inner Sanctum', a mix of powerful, in-your-face rock songs and pure heavy metal tracks. We're very happy with the production and proud of 'Into The Labyrinth'."

Aestheticom's Bill Schacht, who has previously directed music videos for DIO, KING DIAMOND, AMON AMARTH, FATAL SMILE, LIBERTY X/REV RUN, ZAKK WYLDE and SISTER SIN, among others, recently completed filming footage for the "Live To Rock" clip.

"Into The Labyrinth" track listing:

01. Battalions Of Steel
02. Live To Rock
03. Demon Sweeney Todd
04. The Letter
05. Valley Of The Kings
06. Slow Lane Blues
07. Crime Of Passion
08. Premonition in D Minor
09. Voice
10. Protect Yourselves
11. Hellcat
12. Come Rock Of Ages (The Circle Is Complete)
13. Coming Home (Bottleneck Version)

SAXON FUCKING RULES!!! Smaller than Maiden, but definitely a lot heavier to say the least.

I got my first Saxon show back on May 5th 2007 in Hellsinki. It was a majestic show with a huge load of classics on top of the newer kick-ass songs. The venue was packed wall to wall, fists aloft, shouts united, banners high. Excellence.

A still underappreciated and unacknowledged band, not many people even know about this band. But Saxon is becoming bigger in their later years...

January will see the journey into the labyrinth of true heavy metal!

it's not an album, it's a song from the last album The Inner Sanctum. Do your homework.

This is a no-brainer buy. I agree with many statements above. How about a US tour? The only time I've ever seen Saxon was on the British Invasion tour with Iron Maiden and Fastway way back in 82(?). Oldzheimer's strikes again.

Sabbathman - how old are you ?!!!

I suspect too young to remember/know about this, but Saxon had their hey day in the early 80's, peaking in 82 with the release of "The Eagle Has Landed" live album), since which time they have been in decline. Back then though they were on a par with Maiden, Priest, etc., certainly in terms of gig pulling power, even if not in terms of record sales.

You must have been under a stone for the last 12 years because every album Saxon have released from Unleash The Beast on has got better and better and they are harder and heavier than ever. The first albums were great too but the latest ones blow them away. SAXON are still massive in Europe.

One of those rare "holy shit how did they do this" comeback albums, Inner Sanctum still gets heavy rotation at my house.

With all due respect, I think you are a little off the mark with you response to my posting ...

... Saxon are not "massive" in Europe (they ARE popular, but that does not = massive) ... for example, they are touring the UK as support act on the Motorhead Tour around 2,000 - 5,000 capacity venues. Hardly a premiere tour circuit.

In the early/mid 80's Saxon would sell out those sorts of venues easily, with several dates at the same venue. They sold out Leeds Queens Hall around that time, and that was a 10,000 venue.

For the record, exactly the same comment apply to Motorhead.

Bring it on ... !

Thats a fair point about the UK but they are strong in mainland Europe especially Germany and Scandanavia as are Motorhead. Maybe I took your comment of their decline in respect to their recent albums, which is anything but the case. The same also applies to Motorhead as both bands just keep getting better. Its a pity the metal and rock fans in this world seem to pass them by.
